章 49: A Fraud at Hospital?
Maya opened the door to Mr. Martin's ward, it seemed as if he was still unconscious while the nurse was treating him.
She looked around the room. Since it was a big VIP ward, the room was definitely not a small one, the pair of mother and son were also sitting leisurely some distance away, it made her think, "No doctor here and aunty also doesn't look worried, I guess it is not that serious?"
As she entered to ward, her phone notification rang. "Oops! Sorry!" Maya quickly took out her phone and put it on silent mode after receiving scornful gazes from the duo. While doing so, she saw that the message she had received was from Aiden and read it.
After thinking for some while, she decided not to tell him that she was in a hospital, lest he got a bit worried and insisted on coming here. She also did not want him to think that since she was here with Lucas, both of them were back together.
Therefore, she texted him back by telling him that she was at a business meeting and could not talk to him at the moment.
Aiden kept on seeing the ward door when his phone buzzed. He was so anxious that he almost dropped his phone in excitement.
Then he read Maya's message.
[I am at an important meeting right now. Can't talk. Ttyl]
"...!!" Suddenly a chill ran down his spine for no reason.
"Why am I getting so affected because of this!? She simply considers me 'just a friend' at the moment! Of course she doesn't have to tell me about her whereabouts and it's not as if... as if we have any relationship at the moment." Aiden consoled himself.
Meanwhile in Mr. Martin's room, after seeing that Maya had suddenly entered the room, both, Lucas and Mrs. Martin got serious and looked at her. They watched her as she walked toward them with a little bit of concern visible in her eyes.
Maya also looked at them, Mrs. Martin was just ignoring her whereas Lucas looked at her with disdainful eyes. She did not talk to either of them and just stood there.
In the next few minutes, the nurse completed her work, then she turned towards them. Since Lucas's father had been admitted here several times, she was already familiar with them.
" During his visit for regular check- ups last week, had the doctor not advised you that his blood pressure is very unstable at the moment?" It was as if she was scolding a bunch of kids. "Thankfully he was brought here on time or else I really don't know what might have happened!" Saying her part, the nurse left making an angry face.
"....." There was an awkward silence between them.
"Well-" Mrs. Martin had just started when Lucas angrily stomped out.
Maya didn't get bothered by him and saw that Lucas's father was about to wake up.
"Uncle!" She called him out as both of them rushed towards him.

Aiden stood there for a very long time, Maya had still not come out. His curiosity got better of him as he walked forward intending to take a peek inside the room.
He was about to look through the glass, when all of a sudden the door burst open- Aiden made a 180° turn as he pretended to be just a bystander looking at his phone. It was the nurse who came out. He side gazed at her at watched her as she disappeared into the long corridor.
Aiden had barely managed to straighten his back when suddenly the door burst open again! It was Lucas this time.
Since both of them came out angrily, Aiden thought that maybe something was going on in the room so he hastily tried to look inside.
Maya was sitting beside Mr. Martin's bed as she held his hand, she was talking to him about something he couldn't understand.
Aiden frowned upon seeing this, he knew that Maya was holding the hand of some elder, someone who was like a fatherly figure but still he couldn't help but feel jealous after seeing this.
He looked away with annoyance. Surprisingly Aiden thought that he had seen something, or more like some people doing suspicious activity.
Just now the nurse had left angrily and now when he saw it, he realized that Lucas also gone into the same direction. These can't be just two coincidences right?
He quickly followed the direction the two of them had left to.
"Well you did well out there!" said the male voice.
"Well it has already been so long, now I can practically be considered as a professional actress, pftt hahahaha!" A shrill voice replied to him, Aiden was practically sure that these two people were Lucas and the nurse.
"Acting?" Aiden was not sure what was going on right now but he just quietly stood there behind the wall and listened to the entire conversation.
"Shh-! Keep it down!" Lucas said in an extreme hushed voice, "What if you get found out!?"
"Well I am pretty sure that Dr. Susan can provide protection for me, but what about you? huh? What if Maya finds out the fraud you have been playing with her since so long? Do you think that you can survive that blow?" The nurse seemed as if she was well versed with everything that was going on with Lucas's life, and the talk between them was also very informal.
"Dr. Susan?" But before Aiden could think more, some sound came from the corridor, it was of opening and closing of a door.
Both, the nurse as well as Lucas also got aware of their surroundings and stopped talking.
Maya had come out to fetch some warm water for Mr. Martin.
