chapter 30|Hibi

I watched in horror as Caspian was hunted down by the vicious predator. He was cornered multiple times but luckily his brain worked faster than that of a feline as he always made it away even if the odds were not on his side.

"Hibi"

My head snapped to the side to see Adaora standing tall at the door of the building. She tilted her and head and smirked and I took a few steps back. "Go on, run. I'll even give you a head start" She leaned in the walls and put up her hand "Five".

She didn't have to tell me twice. I took off down the other side of the walls into the direction of the next building. "Three" I was almost there, I repeated as I sprinted with whatever was left in me. I braced myself to burst through the glass as throwing open the door would waste too much time.

"One"

Glass shattered around me as I went through the door and rolled onto the floor. I shook my head to get rid of the glass tangled into my hair and began to stand up. But what I saw took me off my feet and had me crawling to the walls in shock.

A large cat-like blue eye peered into the window across from me and once it caught sight of me her pupils dilated. I gulped as the building shook with Rhus's weight and soon enough a large paw crashed into the window next to it, reaching out for me.

I ducked quickly, her claws narrowly missing my head and I immediately jumped to my feet. She growled loudly but I didn't stick around for her next move as I continued my way down the hall. I could see at the light at the end of the hallway, promising freedom but to say it was far away was an understatement.

Another paw darted in front of me but I used it as a stepping stool to jump from and grab the chandelier above me. I swung back and forth before launching myself further and saving running energy.

Rhus still tried to grab me but I kept of dodging and ducking and jumping over her attacks. The most she got on my was a cut to the back of my ankles but I ignored the pain as I kept going. Freedom was in sight and I was too close to back down now.

She even resorted to sticking her head into the building which ended with me having to dive in between her open mouth, my knees narrowly missing her large jaw filled with ravenous sharp teeth.

Astrid said alive right? She didn't mention all my limbs.

What caught me by surprise was the dozen of guards that ran up the stairs with their eyes focused on me, ready to detain me. I didn't have time to fight them but I couldn't lose either. They didn't attack me yet tho, they all just stood in a straight line blocking my path.

My eyes caught sight of a large pillar that stood tall amongst the wreckage around it. It was a good thing Rhus was still out to get my ass because when her next paw burst through the walls It loosened the pillar enough so that I could jump on her paw and grab onto the pillar before successfully swinging off of it to the other side of the guards as well as dropping a large stone pillar in their way.

I am way too good.

I glanced back and say as they all struggled to climb over the stone. I stuck out my tongue at them and continued running but slowed down as I could see the doors right in front of me. A smirk made itself on my face as I realized I might actually be getting away with this.

Again.

That was until I heard heavy footsteps down the hall. "If you want something done you've got to do it yourself!" My face melted away in horror as the taunting of Adaora reached my eyes. I looked back and indeed she was there.

Oh for fucks sakes give me a break.

She sprinted through the rampage like it was nothing, her dark brown eyes focused on nothing but me. When she got to the pillar she used one hand to jump over it like it was nothing and continued her path.

I faced forward again. More determined than ever.

The floor shook again and before I knew it Rhus stood right in front of me, well outside the door I was soon about to go through. My eyes widened a bit before they hardened with determination. The space between her wide legs was calling my name as I got ready to slide between them.

I leapt through the glass door again but dropped to the ground as I slide between Rhus's legs. I grabbed his left leg and used it to launch myself further as I slide. My nose tickled as I got a full whiff of cat fur but I held it in at the expense of my life.

Rhus snarled and threw her tail in between her legs but instead, I grabbed onto it. Which was a terrible mistake.

I was flung in the air again but let go at the right time where I descended from a backflip back onto my feet. The edge of the walls looked really good right now as my legs pumped with exhaustion and the need to stay alive.

"Hibi!" I heard a call from down below me and glanced briefly to see Caspian sitting comfortably on a horse. His face drenched with fear and worry.

But I had a feeling it wasn't for him.

"I'm kinda busy right now!"

"When you get to the end jump!" My eyes flew open in alarm.

"WHAT!?"

"I'll catch you!"

This man is really underestimating my weight here.

I let out a sigh as I weighed my options and came to the conclusion that this was the best choice at this point. It was either that or jump blindly and fall to my death or even worse, the shattering of my legs.

I reached the end of the wall and looked down. Indeed, true to his word Caspian was there, arm open with his eyes screaming 'trust me'. I bit my lip in hesitation as I threw one leg over the wall.

"Is this what you've resorted to Hibiscus? Petty suicide?"

Adaora walked up to me, triumph in her eyes with her pet prowling close behind her. "Just surrender yourself now and I promise you I'll make your death quicker" I glanced down again to see Caspians arms out wider now with a pleading look on his face.

You better catch me, pretty boy.

"Stop weighing your options flower, you've got nowhere to go" I shot her a grin.

"Do I?" She raised an eyebrow.

"You certainly don't think death will free you from my clutches do you?" I smirked.

"I guess we'll have to find out" I gave her a mocking salute before falling off the building back first.

Sure enough, I soon landed in the arms of Caspian who did not waste a chance before kicking the horse to get into gear. "You owe me two now princess" He grunted softly. I smiled and adjusted myself out of his arms and sat behind him.

I glanced back to see Adaora holding a bow and arrow. My eyes widened as hers narrowed on her target. A white searing pain entered my lower back and I almost immediately folded. The wood of the arrow shifting around in my skin.

I went limp in Caspians lap and I think he thought I was being dramatic until he saw the weapon embedded in my flesh. "Hibi?" He shook me softly but I was already being embraced by the warm clutches of unconsciousness. "HIBI!?"
