章 25: Chapter 25 – An esper power level-up

It was late in the afternoon when Curt arrives at the provincial hospital of Kor City. He was thinking of the possible reasons why Doctor Gale called him in this place. They already have an agreement that he would only go here for emergency reasons and on weekends.
However, today seems a bit different. It was not long since he was in this place and now he is back once again. As he enters the main gate of the hospital a guard checks him and inquires of the purpose of his visit. The usual procedure was quick and monotonous and soon he arrives in front of Doctor Gale's consultation office.
Knock! Knock!
"Come in!" Doctor Gale's voice said after hearing the knock on the door.
Curt enters and saw a few doctors sitting on the sofa. When they saw Curt's young appearance and his simple clothing, they all thought that he is a patient and looks at Doctor Gale.
"Cur, come in… these are some of my colleagues. We just finished our meeting and they are about to leave…" Doctor Gale said while looking at the doctors inside the room.
They seem to get what he means and everyone stood up and bade farewell. In fact, they didn't leave yet because they wanted to invite Doctor Gale to dinner with some of their colleagues in the hospital. However, he seems to be hesitant to follow them and insist on staying to work overtime. Everyone was helpless and didn't want to leave but since there is a patient, they didn't have a choice.
After everyone left the only people in the room are Doctor Gale, Doctor Agnes, and Curt.
"Curt, thank you for coming… We… we have a little problem in our hands and I was hoping to ask you if you are able to help us." Doctor Gale didn't beat around the bush and directly come to the point.
His gaze shifted to Doctor Agnes Lim who is sitting beside him.
"Sigh… actually if we have other choices we would not call you. But even the esper experts in our department are helpless against the situation. We even asked for those in the other hospitals, but they too are not sure of the situation. So we only have you as our best bet." She said.
Curt was still confused at the situation and his brow creased. Both of them knew that the young man in front of them is a little curious now so Doctor Gale immediately told him the situation.
When Curt heard it, he was a bit surprised. This is because the patient is actually the office woman whom the city is considering as the hero who prevented a catastrophe to happen. However, when he heard that she was still in a coma even after her LEP energy has been replenished, he too was a bit surprised.
"Alright, I will try my best to help you. But I need to see the patient first." Curt said seriously.
The two doctors showed an excited expression on their faces. Although Doctor Gale is not part of the specialized doctor who belongs to the government and could not enter the underground facility, with permission from Doctor Agnes he could be permitted with strict supervision.
And so the three immediately walked to the elevator.
In that elevator, there is a secret slot where a thumb scanner is secretly located. Doctor Agnes Lim pressed her thumb on that surface and soon a new number appears on the elevator display. Then every floor was immediately blocked as the elevator directly went to level B3.
When the metallic door opened the group was greeted by a dimly lit tunnel. Curt can see that at the end of the tunnel, there is a bulletproof glass wall and behind that stood two soldiers.
However, when one of the soldiers saw Curt, his expression suddenly changes. Curt also recognizes the guard.
"Hey, you're Captain Luis, right?" Curt said with a smile.
The guard just nodded his head and gave Curt a smile. However, he didn't talk or greeted him. He just stood there seriously and without blinking.
Upon seeing this Curt didn't bother with it and just followed Doctor Agnes Lim.
"I'm Doctor Agnes Lim…" she said at the counter.
Then she was scanned and was let inside. However, Curt and Doctor Gale stayed outside. They waited for a moment until an old doctor came out with Doctor Agnes.
"He might be of help to us, doctor."
When the old man saw Curt, he looks at him up and down and with a scoff waved his hand. He shook his head in dejection as he turns around.
"Head doctor, please… if you trust me, I assure you that he can help us." Doctor Agnes said trying to convince the old man.
"Humph! You are being scammed, my child. Look at him. Does he look like someone who knew medicine? He even looks like an ordinary worker. Plus he is not an esper, how could you be fooled so easily."
"Haha… Are you mocking me old man?!" suddenly the voice of Doctor Agnes change.
"Do you think I don't know the situation? You are already out of ideas and are unable to determine what is wrong with the patient. If she is simply unconscious then that is fine. However, I've read the secret report. Her LEP energy is fluctuating. If this continues then her life would be in danger." Doctor Agnes said with a cold snort.
She was called the tyrant doctor for nothing. Once she was provoked she would not even consider if you are her superior or not, she would scowl and get angry at you if you get on her nerves.
When the head doctor of the facility heard this, he was also angered. But he could not refute the words of a woman.
In truth, he and the experts in the facility have already exhausted their options. They are already considering using the cryogenic method to preserve the woman's body. But they knew it would affect her mental and physical health drastically. However, it would be their last method to preserve her life.
"Now, I will tell you this… this is your only chance to save that esper. If you delay more, then I will wash my hands in this incident and let you face the city council. I wonder if you can bear the punishment they will give you for a letter a hero die in the facility." Doctor Agnes said with a sneer on her face.
Upon hearing this, the old doctor grabs his temple as if he is having a headache. He knew that what she is saying is true. He also knew that if that woman lost her life in this place, his lofty position as the head doctor would be finished. Hence he lifted his head and gaze once more at the simple looking young man standing with an amiable smile on his face.
"Sigh… Alright… but this is just once. If that young man failed to cure the woman, then I will place the blame on your heads…" the old doctor said with an evil smirk.
When Curt heard this, he suddenly frowns.
"Doctor, it seems that you could not wait to throw the responsibility to others. However, I will tell you this beforehand. I will only check her condition, if I am able to stabilize her condition, she might wake up immediately or at most tomorrow morning. But that depends on her condition." Curt suddenly said while looking at the old doctor.
When the Head Doctor heard this, he snorted and just turn around without another word. When he arrives at the counter, he said. "Let them in."
Curt and Doctor Gale enter the high tech facility.
Unlike the dimly lit tunnel outside, the inside of the facility looks modern and would be considered as a top-class facility.
The group was led to an isolated room, with the letters ICU glowing above the door. Curt knew that it means this place is a very important place where most patients are in critical condition.
He was a bit confused as to why this would happen to the woman. Before leaving at that time, he is sure that she just needed to rest for a while and after an hour or two she would soon wake up, this situation is out of his expectation.
After wearing protective gloves and suits, the group enters the room where the woman could be seen lying unconscious on a hospital bed.
After checking the charts, Curt didn't hesitate to remove his gloves and touch the wrist of the unconscious woman. When the head doctor saw this, the old man was about to flip in anger, but he saw the glare of Doctor Agnes which quelled his irritation. So he just begrudgingly stood in a corner and observe what this scammer would do.
In his mind, he is waiting for a chance to step on this arrogant young man and show him what would happen if he scammed this old man.
Curt slowly felt the flow of LEP energy in the woman's body and was a bit taken aback after noticing something in her body. He now knew how espers were able to wield LEP and command the elements. Everything relies on their mental strength. The more mental tension or stress their brain could withstand the more powerful they are.
However, the drawback of this kind of no path development is great. Unlike him who uses his body as a container field to hold LEP energy, espers use their brains to contain a certain amount of LEP energy and use that to command the LEP element in the surroundings.
This way they can control any element their esper power can control. But the problem with this is the mental strain, and right now, the woman lying in bed has over exhaust her potential and is currently having a dangerous breakthrough.
If she is successful, she would advance to another level in her mental strength. However, if she fails then she would die. Not automatically be considered as dead, but dying is still close to it.
After finding out the situation of the woman, Curt immediately acted. He drew close to the woman's ears and whispered in a low voice which even the three doctors in the room could not hear.
"Follow the sensation… Follow the sensation…" Curt repeated.
Meanwhile, his finger slowly touches her forehead and he slowly made it travel down to her nose, then to her lips, chin, neck…
As his finger draw lower and lower, the eyes of the three doctors grew wider and wider. This is especially true for the old man.
His anger is almost about to erupt. In his mind, he wanted to pounce at the young man for what he is doing.
How could he take advantage of the patient?
But as soon as he was about to take any action, he felt a cold glare directed towards him.
When Curt's finger ended at the woman's navel, he slowly travels it towards another direction. Not long later, he suddenly stopped.
As soon as he stopped, the group saw the body of the woman on the hospital bed suddenly quiver.
