37.5% Prince-NOT SO-Charming / Chapter 9: Purple

章 9: Purple

This chapter was edited on June 16, 2020. (cuz I wanted to fix some things lmao)

Lucas paced his and Brent's hotel while Brent was taking a bath.

Yes, they shared a hotel room. Truthfully, Lucas was supposed to get his own room. But something in Lucas's gut told him to get one together. He liked the chef's company after all.

That night, Brent had actually made them the greatest meal they had ever had. Lucas slipped the head chef of the hotel a few bucks and then Brent was allowed to work his magic in the kitchen. Though Lucas wasn't there to watch Brent cook it, he was still pleased with the experience of being able to eat the man's fine work.

He smacked his cheeks softly with both hands and squished his face cutely. "Stop thinking about Brent," he whispered to himself.

But the moment he said it, his face heated up again. It was inevitable.

He wasn't gay. That was...

"A fact," Lucas said aloud accidentally, "That's a fact."

He looked into a mirror on the wall, and saw how red his face had gotten, "But why am I so self-conscious around him?"

He'd been interested in women before. So it's not like he was gay. So what was this he was feeling right now?

He shut his eyes tightly, "No, don't even..."

Don't even think about being gay. That's not even a possibility. "It just doesn't make-"

"Are you having an existential crisis?"

The prince whipped around and found Brent in nothing but a towel and dripping wet. "Forgot my clothes out here," he explained, "Are you okay though, seriously? You look out of it."

"I think I just might be having a crisis," Lucas confessed, "But not an existential one."

Brent let out a confused laugh before grabbing some clothes out of a drawstring bag and disappearing back into the bathroom.

Lucas nervously hummed the tune of an old nursery rhyme his mother used to sing to him. He tried to get it to take over his mind so he could not have to talk to Brent. Brent wanted to know the truth... The truth was that Lucas was getting a crush on Brent.

He couldn't tell Brent what he was thinking of him! How could he?

Especially since he was getting married soon. No, that wouldn't work. He had to make up something. He had to make up a lie; something believable and something that strayed only slightly from the truth.

But more than anything he needed answers. Why was he feeling this way again? Why did he feel it so much? He'd always been the type to believe a small attraction to someone outside your preferences didn't change your sexuality. But the constant need to be near Brent and at all time was daunting and scary.

Brent came out of the bathroom once again, wearing pajama bottoms and no shirt. Prince Lucas found this extremely odd seeing as it was a cold night for some reason and it was freezing.

"You're not wearing a shirt," Lucas stated the obvious dumbly.

Brent looked down at his chest and raised his eyebrows, feigning shock, "It seems I'm not." he grinned

The chef went over and laid on the bed with a long groan. Lucas nearly laughed. The prince went over to his own bed and sat on the edge of it, facing Brent.

"Well," Brent turned on his side so he could face the prince, "What the issue?"

Make up a lie.

Make up a lie.

Make up a lie.

Make up a lie.

Make up a lie.

"I think I might be gay"

Dangit.

***

Brent was expecting literally anything else to come out of his mouth. He didn't expect the prince to be coming out. Especially not to him.

What did this mean for him though? Did that heighten his chances?

Of course it didn't. It didn't change the fact that Lucas a prince and that he was engaged to a woman.

"But I don't think I'm gay, at the same time," Lucas added quickly

Brent furrowed his thick brows, 'What do you mean by that?"

"Ever since I met you, I've..." Lucas drifted off before continuing, "I was thinking about this friend I used to have and I think I might've had a crush on him." He said quickly.

Brent rolled his eyes, "So... you like guys? Is that all?"

"But I'm not gay!" Lucas shouted, his hands moving wildly, "I've always loved girls. I mean..." his face reddened at his outburst.

"I never said you were gay," Brent put his hands up in mock surrender.

"But... but I feel like I might've actually had feelings for men before," Lucas said, voice strained, "And I don't know what to do. Am I turning gay? Is this what being gay is? Will I soon lose interest in women?"

To the Prince's obvious surprise, Brent laughed out loud.

God, this kid was cute. Very cute.

Brent looked at the worry lines on the prince's face and realized Prince Lucas had no idea what bisexuality was.

"I just don't understand. How can someone like both men and women?" Lucas continued, "What do I do? I don't know whether I'm heterosexual or not."

"I'll tell you right now, you're not," Brent smirked

"But I'm not ga-"

"Do you what bisexuality is, Lucas?" Brent interrupted

Lucas opened his mouth and shut it multiple times. His cheeks grew redder and confusion filled his face.

"Excuse me?" He said

"Let me get this straight," Brent sat up "You like girls, right? That part makes you think you're heterosexual."

"Yeah but-"

"Hold on," he held up a hand, "But you also like guys right? That's homosexual."

"Exactly," Lucas said, "I don't understand how-"

"So, you're bisexual," Brent said bluntly, "Or at least that's what it sounds like. Bisexual is when you like men and women... and sometimes other genders too but I'm not bisexual so I can't explain all that, but like-"

"I'm sorry, what did you say?" Lucas blinked for a second, taking it all in. Brent was pleased to see the tension release from his forehead, "Bisexual? You mean like... I can be half gay and half straight?"

"Bisexual isn't 50% straight and 50% gay," Brent rolled his eyes, "it's 100% bisexual."

"Bisexual?" Lucas asked. Brent nodded. "That's... a real thing?"

"I didn't just make it up," Brent laughed again, he leaned forward and softened his voice, "I know you've been confused. There are a lot of things you haven't been exposed to. Being bisexual is completely normal."

Slowly, Lucas smiled brightly and Brent desperately want to pinch his cheeks. He resisted, of course, but the urge was strong.

"I can't believe there's still so much I don't know," Lucas said with a sigh. He looked at Brent, beaming brightly,

"I wonder what else I could learn by spending time with different people."
