The crusaders hadn't seen or heard anything from Polnareff that day, spending the night at that Indian hotel. Fortunately, there were no more incidents, as there were enough rooms for the men to sleep in pairs and (Y/N) all by herself.
The next morning, the rain was pouring, while the foreigners were having their breakfast. The atmosphere was quiet, but in the same time, it all felt quite awkward. There was an empty seat at the table. Even though they all knew Polnareff was definitely not going to show up, a small part of them still hoped he was.
Suddenly, (Y/N) noticed the worried look on Avdol's face. She could tell by the way the man looked at the empty seat that he was concerned about his reckless friend. She couldn't help but ask, breaking the silence. "Are you alright, Mr. Avdol?"
The man raised his head humming. He closed his eyes and shook his head. "You don't have to address me formally, (Y/N)!" he smiled falsely.
The girl narrowed her eyes and kept staring at him. She knew Avdol was trying to change the subject, but that thing didn't work with her. The Egyptian man also noticed her long stare, so he sighed. He had no choice but to tell the others what was bothering him.
"I have a bad feeling..." he stopped in the middle of the sentence. "Something is telling me that Polnareff is in danger..."
Avdol groaned sighing and grabbing the bridge of his nose with his thumb and pointing finger. Seeing the way she had made the man feel, (Y/N) turned back to her seat, keeping her hands on her lap, playing with her skirt, maybe she could stop asking stupid questions and making people feel even worse that they had been feeling.
She glanced at the chai cup standing on the table, right in front of her. It was the first time in that journey, when she didn't feel like eating. Of course, she had eaten dinner the evening before, but she didn't eat that much there either. (Y/N) felt like she wanted to take the cup and drink from it, but her hands didn't want to listen to her.
"But you, (Y/N)... Are you alright?" Avdol's calm but concerned voice made her head immediately lift up, the girl getting a little bit dazed from the sudden move. She didn't quite catch his question at first, but after a second, she managed to answer it, without having the Egyptian man repeat it.
"Oh, uh... Yeah, I'm fine!" she exclaimed closing her eyes and smiling.
Avdol continued. "You haven't touched your food nor your drink, (Y/N)..."
That caught her off guard. Was it that obvious that she hadn't eaten anything? She had thought that no-one really noticed or cared about that. (Y/N) sighed, looking at her skirt again, away from everyone. The girl gasped slightly when she felt a hand on her back. She turned her head, firstly looking on her left, where Jotaro was having his cap over his eyes, then on her right, where she saw the Egyptian man looking worriedly at her.
He smiled. "It's alright if you don't know what's going on either..."
'How does he know that?' she thought, without changing the expression on her face. 'Oh wait, he's a fortune teller...' (Y/N) mentally slapped her face, while realizing that it was all probably a guess based on her confused face; Avdol couldn't read minds.
"But... If anything bothers you, don't be afraid to ask for help, right, Mr. Joestar?" he continued, turning around to the old man. Jotaro's grandfather immediately nodded, reassuring the girl that she is cared for.
Kakyoin's voice made (Y/N) turn her head in the pink haired guy's direction. "You know you can always talk to me!" His smile was so bright, it made the girl's heart flutter.
"Yare yare..." the last one of the crusaders was heard. "You're annoying when you're sad." Jotaro said strongly, but with a low tone.
It was the first time the black haired student properly spoke to her, after the incident.
"Oi, (Y/N)!" Mr. Joestar spoke, catching the girl's attention. The old man rested his arm on the table, pointing at her. "You've been the one taking care of us ever since we left Japan. Now it's our turn to take care of you!" he winked.
Seeing everybody being there for her when she needed most, made the poor (Y/N) feel so happy. She soon became overwhelmed by tears, so she started sobbing, still smiling, keeping wiping her tears with her uniform sleeve. The men around her smiled and chuckled.
Just then, after she managed to stop crying, (Y/N) looked out through one of the restaurant's windows and noticed that the rain had stopped as well. The girl showed that to the others.
Mr. Joestar was the first one to get up. "Well, now that the rain has stopped, we should get going..." the old man stated.
Everyone agreed, getting up as well. However, when they all got out of the restaurant, they realized Avdol wasn't with them anymore. The remaining crusaders knew immediately that the Egyptian man had probably gone after Polnareff, so they all split up, running in different directions, to try to find both him and his friend.
(Y/N) ran around a market full of people, asking from time to time if they had happened to see a man in a red coat and one with a long white hair around there. The answers were all the same negative ones. Suddenly, the girl heard someone yell something about a fight around there. She kind of freaked out, because she knew the shout was far enough for her not to make it on time. She used all of her left stamina to run as fast as she could. (Y/N) wasn't even looking at the road anymore, she was only trying to figure out from where exactly the shout had come from. Thus, she bumped into something, or better said, someone, falling down to the ground.
"I'm so sorry, I should watch where I'm going!" she immediately apologized without looking at the person she had just bumped into.
"(Y/N)?"
The girl looked up and sighed in relief seeing Mr. Joestar right in front of her. She old man stretched out a hand to help (Y/N) get up. She then remembered why she was running around so fast.
"Mr. Joestar, I've just heard something about a fight! We have to get there as soon as possible!" she almost freaked out.
The old man nodded. "You go, I'll take Jotaro and come find you right afterwards." They did as they planed, each of them taking a different way.
(Y/N) continued to ask people for directions, breathing her lungs out while running to the place the sound came from. She stopped when she got to an open space, when she saw what she wished it wouldn't have happened. Ten meters ahead of her, Kakyoin was next to Avdol's passed out body and Polnareff was standing right in front of them. The girl gasped when she realized the entire situation, covering her mouth and trying not to tear up. She ran once again kneeling down next to the Egyptian man's unconscious body, surprising both guys.
"I-I-I... I can heal him, I'm sure of that!" she stuttered and sniffed, still holding in her tears. (Y/N) was ready to get out her Pure Silence, when she was stopped by the pink haired guy's hand on her back.
The student looked and sounded just as hurt as she was. "(Y/N)..." he didn't even need to finish his sentence, everything was understood from his tone of speaking.
(Y/N) couldn't believe it. Avdol couldn't be dead. She was just then distracted from the dead body by Polnareff. "That's what he gets for lecturing people!"
Hearing what the French guy had just said, (Y/N) started shaking slightly. Both of her fists were clenched, pure fury going through her veins at that moment. "What did you say?" she asked silently, keeping a neutral-to-surprised face, but her eyebrows still twitching in frown.
"No-one asked for his help!" the white haired man's ego continued to grow, despite the situation they were in.
"He was worried about you!"
"He likes to meddle in other people's business, but he's slow as hell, so they got him! Guys like him just get in the way!" he said carelessly.
The girl was ready to jump on the dumb and selfish Frenchman, when she felt Kakyoin's hand once again. She took some deep breaths. "You bastard..." he said in her place.
Just then they noticed some small drops of water falling on the dry ground. (Y/N) was a bit confused about whether or not Polnareff had actually started crying. With his finger still pointing the air, he started trembling. "I'm sick of it..." the white haired guy said silently. He then turned around to face the two students, leaving them with a surprised look when they saw the tears flowing down his face. "Having people up and die on me..."
(Y/N) sobbed as well, immediately covering her mouth... Her eyes were closed, small drops of salty water falling down her cheeks. Kakyoin looked at her, then back at the other guy. "Polnareff..."
"I'm sick of it, ya hear me!"
"Heh, for a tough guy, he sure was easy to finish off..." a new voice caught everyone's attention. A blond guy, dressed up like a cowboy, was standing right beside them. The man threw the cigarette he had had in his mouth on the ground, stepping on it and smirking. "Then again, most folks don't get a chance to say 'goodbye', you know." With a hand gesture, he told Polnareff to come closer.
Furious, looking at the ground with his fists clenched, Polnareff turned around and walked straight to the man who had just killed his friend.
Wiping the tears that were trying to escape his eyes, Kakyoin immediately yelled at the white haired guy. "Polnareff! You can't let him get to you!" He got up from the ground letting (Y/N) be the only one still staying next to Avdol's dead body. "Do you still not get it?!" The anger and concern were clearly audible in his voice. "Mr. Avdol told you! He begged you not to fight alone!"
Kakyoin's words hurt even (Y/N). She was keeping her hand on her mouth, so no sound would come out of it. She was tightly holding Avdol's red cloth, while small drops of salty water were falling on it. Just a moment ago, he had been making her feel so much better, after thinking how less the men could've cared about her, and now, he was laying on dirt, in a puddle of blood. Even though she wasn't paying much attention to the men around her, she lifted up her head when she heard Kakyoin using his Emerald Splash. She watched as he shot Polnareff, making him fly away from a window, then running and taking the first car he saw. The pink haired guy stopped for a moment when he remembered that (Y/N) was there as well. He looked back at the girl, who told him to go and help Polnareff, with a waving hand gesture.
While the two guys were driving off, (Y/N) noticed that the blond man was left behind. She got up from the ground and quietly walked away from the body, so he wouldn't see her. It wasn't that she was afraid or anything, but she knew quite well that she wouldn't be able to dodge the bullet or at least heal herself. She stayed with her back laying on a building's wall, until the enemy Stand user left the area. Just then, she saw Mr. Joestar and Jotaro finally arriving at the 'crime scene'.
When the two men saw Avdol lifelessly laying on the ground, right before them, they both put their hats over their eyes. (Y/N) got out of her hiding spot and went straight back to the Egyptian man.
After a moment of silence, the old man spoke. "Where are Kakyoin and Polnareff?"
"They left a while ago..." the girl immediately answered, trying to find Avdol's pulse. She still hoped that the man was alive, even though that was probably impossible.
Seeing (Y/N) acting so stupid, thinking that the Egyptian man would've survived, judging by the puddle of blood under him, Jotaro got annoyed. "Oi, will you stop that?" he suddenly snapped.
The girl looked up at him with the most disgusted look on her face. "He can't be dead." Jotaro frowned and opened his mouth to say something, being immediately stopped by his classmate. "Come on, tell me that I'm getting annoying." 'That's the only thing you're good at, anyway...' she wanted to continue, but she didn't. Seeing that he was not going to say anything anymore, (Y/N) turned back to her searching.
"(Y/N), it's useless..." Mr. Joestar's sentence was cut off by the girl's gasp. Happier than ever, she told the two guys standing before her that Avdol was alive.
Without waiting any longer, (Y/N) got Pure Silence out, the Stand placing her hands on the unconscious body. She concentrated her powers on Avdol, until she noticed his eyes flickering. The girl stood back, giving the man some space. She happily glanced at Jotaro and his grandfather, their faces being surprised, but also relieved.
Avdol started groaning in pain, while trying to get up. He was then stopped by (Y/N) who immediately laid him back down on the ground. "Wait, I'm not done, don't get up!" she exclaimed, her Stand still floating behind her. The girl was heavily breathing because of the effort she had already made, but she was not going to leave Avdol like that, no matter what.
The Egyptian man put his hand on her shoulder. "You've done enough already." he said smiling. Avdol glanced for a moment at Mr. Joestar, both nodding at the same time. "I'm going to remain here until I am fully recovered, then we'll meet again."
"B-but..."
"No buts!" Avdol cut off the girl's sentence. He was clearly feeling better, judging by the lecturing tone he had.
Mr. Joestar came closer as well, putting his right hand on (Y/N's) other shoulder. "We can't let you pass out here, in the middle of a fight, dear..." the old man patted her.
(Y/N) sighed and got up from the ground, while Jotaro lifted Avdol on his shoulders. They were going to get the Egyptian man to the closest hospital, where he could have been taken care of. Even though she was so happy that Avdol was alive, (Y/N) had an empty stomach, knowing that she couldn't help more, because of her lack of power.
While the old man went to check Avdol into the hospital, the two students remained outside, right next to the entrance. As (Y/N) noticed Jotaro taking a cigarette out of his pants pocket, she remembered how she lost her own pack. She hesitated at first, but she eventually asked the bulky guy for one as well. "Got an extra cigarette?" She didn't look him in the eye, she looked at the ground while crossing her arms.
Surprised at first by her sudden question, Jotaro knew that he had to give her the stolen pack of cigarettes back. He took it out of his pocket, then stretched out his arm to her, looking away. (Y/N) almost gasped when she recognized her almost empty package. She rapidly took it from his hand, immediately taking one cigarette out and shoving the pack into her pocket.
"Why was this with you?" the girl asked visibly angered.
Still looking away, Jotaro tried to change the subject. "You said you only smoke when you're alone."
(Y/N) frowned. "That's not the answer to my question. And I didn't say I only smoke when I'm alone, I smoke when I'm stressed."
"You're stressed." Jotaro stated while he still kept trying to change the subject from himself. He was playing with the cigarette in his hand, avoiding the girl's eyes.
"Stop trying to change the subject, will you?!" (Y/N) snapped at him. Using Pure Silence's speed, she lit up the cigarette. She was hopelessly waiting for Jotaro to apologize to her for stealing the small package, even though she knew he wouldn't. After she took a deep breath, she turned her head to the guy who was poking her shoulder like a kid. "What?"
"Got a light?" he asked stopping and stretching out his cigarette to her.
(Y/N) huffed. "Why don't you light it up yourself?" she asked rhetorically, treating him the same way he treated others.
Jotaro was standing still, right next to her, his cap covering his eyes. His eyebrow twitched when he heard the girl's comment, but after realizing that she probably had the right to be angry with him, he let her be. Of course he could've used Star Platinum to light up his cigarette, but he didn't want to, for some reason.
The boy didn't realize it, but he was actually acting like a child and (Y/N) noticed that. While Jotaro was not looking, her Pure Silence rapidly snapped her fingers and lit up the guy's cigarette. It was so fast, his eyes widened. He took a glance at her, his mouth half open, then glanced at the cigarette burning in his hand and back at the girl.
"You're... Annoying when you act like a child, you knew that?" (Y/N) said taking another deep breath from her half smoked cigarette, then crossed her arms, looking away. 'God, I'm spending so much time with this jerk... I actually start talking like him...' she thought, getting a feeling that she was going to puke or something.
"Hm." Jotaro said, turning his head away, letting out the smoke from his lungs. Fortunately for the bulky guy, no-one could notice the slight smirk that suddenly appeared on his face, because of the shade his cap made.
After a while, Mr. Joestar finally got out of the hospital, without Avdol this time. They all decided that is was for the best not to tell Polnareff that his friend was still alive, knowing that he was such a chatterbox. The three crusaders started walking back to where they came from, when they heard a woman-like scream. They hurried and saw the blonde guy who had almost killed Avdol, running away from Kakyoin and Polnareff. With no hesitation, Jotaro punched the enemy Stand user in the face, letting him fall to the ground.
"Mr. Joestar! Jotaro! (Y/N)!" Kakyoin exclaimed as both him and the Frenchman arrived.
The old man crossed his arms to his chest and sighed, looking at the ground. "We know about Avdol... We didn't have time for much, but we gave him a proper burial..." (Y/N) immediately realized that it was all acting, so she just kept staring at the ground while he talked.
Kakyoin explained the others that the one who stabbed Avdol in the back was the man with two right hands, but Hol Horse, by his name, was the one who caused his 'death'. Taking a step forward, Polnareff decided that it was his right to give the blond cowboy his sentence. The white haired guy got out his Stand, but exactly when he was ready to slice Hol Horse's body with the sword, some Indian girl jumped on him and stopping him.
While everyone's attention was focused on the girl who kept telling the enemy to leave, Hol Horse managed to get away from the others with his horse. Unfortunately, while the girl was still trying to hold Polnareff still, she scratched her elbow. (Y/N) took a step forward, wanting to go to the girl and help her, but she was stopped by both Jotaro and Kakyoin.
After finding a piece of material, Mr. Joestar went to bandage the girl, who was even younger than the students. "Avdol is gone now..." the old man said without looking at Polnareff. "But we have to continue our way to Egypt. It's been fifteen days since we left Japan..."
Hesitating for a moment, the white haired guy stepped in front of them and started talking about how they should stick together, no matter what. The others laughed, hearing such things from someone like him, but, at least he had learned his lesson.
