章 231: CHPT 231: The Demon Lurks, The Lupine Prepares.
Another day, another interrogation survived. Barely.
To no one's surprise, the first person to figure out what transpired in the Library was Ursula. Claude could always smell her disdain for most Heroes of high standing, but after learning of what he endured only hours earlier, she was livid.
Oddly enough, it was a nice feeling to him-- to have someone mad for him that is. But they both also knew they could do nothing-- that made her even angrier, causing her eyes to flicker like half-dead candles while cold winds swept over him. The safest option was to let Ronin stalk the University halls with his psychotic Detectives in tow for the remainder of his stay so he could eventually leave and stay out.
That was the idea, that was what Ursula thought. But Claude remembered the man's promise. He was now added to Claude's evergrowing list of powerful threats. A list that made his stomach bubble and hands sweat profusely.
At the top spot of said list, were the enemy Lupines of Remus. He would soon hunt them as much as they hunted him, but until then, he knew he was outranked and outclassed. It wouldn't stay that way...
Up next was....a god. An otherworldly threat that loomed over his imaginary timeline like an omen of disaster. Fenrir was definitely a threat-- no matter how much power he shared.
The God of Wolves was closely followed by the breeders of demons. One not only hunted him now, but also his friends. If that wasn't enough, he read that the HellBreeder left its chosen victim as a solitary vengeful soul with the mysterious power of a HellSlayer. Claude had enough of mysterious power and death-- and if the two mixed, even more so.
Then, he got to the more earth-bound immediate threats. Starting with the oncoming wave of Raiders. Ones stronger than the batch he previously fed to the animals of the wild. The lack of knowledge over the subject allowed his imagination to roam into uncomfortable territories. But, it didn't matter how far his mind roamed, he'd face them when the time came. He had a promise to keep.
And if that all wasn't enough, how now had the attention of a swordsman only equaled by few. A swordsman who grew up as an orphan in the Kumataiyo Isle's slaying Akuma for who knows how long only to one day arrive in New Gloria wielding two weapons that could easily bring a man closer to the status of a god. A man like that, now had his eyes on Claude with a sureness to one day find him again and be given reason to end his life.
As scared as he was, something told him the sleeping monster, Remus, was stronger. Even so, he was asleep. Ronin was very much awake, and on the verge of crossing moral boundaries while in search of his sons.
The twins. One unable to complete the shift because it wasn't in him to become a Lupine, Tai roamed somewhere in the wilds as something in between man and beast. A Malformed. He was more than likely long dead. His brother on the other hand took the change as well as Claude had. He was somewhere with his new pack. Not of like-minded arrogant nobles at the University. But, something much worse. He was somewhere having his mind changed to fit the mold of a true Lupine of Remus. It was safe to say at least one of them was a threat.
He wondered when he'd see him again.

Friday Morning, Nov 16th, 2240
That exact sea of thoughts rose and sank with the tide of each passing day up until Friday morning.
The week went by at a calmer pace following the disastrous interrogation, allowing Claude to settle back into normal University life; consisting of, studying all morning, rigorous training in the afternoons and studying on Demons at night with Ursula, Warren, Isaac and Maris.
Every night spent with them had life or death consequences in a way their University studies didn't. What they read in the Library had a more immediate effect. They needed to learn more about the hellish being that stalked them, because today was the day when it had the highest chance of showing itself.
Fridays. The day when their Training class would enter another Tangent, unknowing of what would greet them inside.....or what would enter after.
Claude had to be ready, last time was too risky. He had to be ready to keep his people safe from whatever demonically corrupted Monster the HellBreeder would send after them in search of revenge.
And he was planning for the worst case scenario.
HellBred Elves....Orcs.....Vampires. Whatever came knocking, he had to answer in kind.
That meant bringing his own recently obtained rare object of vastly unknown power. The power to manhandle his own transformation and bring forth his true form. He was still an incomplete Lupine of Romulus-- that won't fly forever.
So, bringing the Lunar Artifact now functioned as his fail-safe. He wouldn't let the HellBreeder turn him into something unrecognizable. He'd do that himself if need be, in combat.

I can't really say I hope you enjoy because nobody overtly enjoys fillers. So I'll try to get the next chap out ASAP!
