章 148: CHPT 148: Natural Tomb.
Kobolds. Similar to Lizardmen/LizardFolk, are both medium to very large humanoid lizards. The only way to decipher between the two is their intelligence level. Lizardmen are completely animal in mind with wild predatory instincts. Kobolds are crafty pack hunters with the ability to set traps and use weapons as well as armor. All in all, Kobolds are a much more dangerous opponent— especially when they're higher levels.

The stars that cluttered the night sky hovered over the clearing Claude and his Wolves stood in as they faced off against the new intruders. Their weak but present source of light shined on the reptilian band of hunters, brightening their colorful scaled bodies that showed likeness to all lizards belonging to earth.
Ten of them entered the clearing. Large scaled raptor-like feet silently pressed into the grass while their long skinny claws sunk into the ground with deadly ease. Slitted noses located at the end of their hard and boney snouts opened and closed in unison with their forked black or blue tongues— reminding Claude of the HellBred Plated Snake he fought months ago. The two had a surprising amount of similarities.
The ten Kobolds eyes sharpened into paper thin slits in perfect sync and they hissed menacingly before raising their stolen low quality weapons and charging.
"hssSSS!!"
Claude and the Wolves snarled loud enough to shake the ground before meeting the charge.
The Kobolds to his left and right were pitted against the Wolves while the three in the center locked their evil sickening eyes on him.
With every step they made to close the distance, he couldn't help but notice that their head and necks stayed in one spot, unmoving and undeniably focused.
The first to reach him had dull green scales covering its solid muscled body with darker stripes running across its arms and over its hissing face.
"RRRRAAA—ck!" The Kobold closest to him lunged, seemingly more interested in trying to bite his head off than using the rusty axe it held in its left hand.
Claude lunged in return, using his slowly transforming muscles to boost his explosiveness and surprise the creature. Before it had time to react, his sword was sliding through it's opened mouth and ripping through the back of its head. The semi-serrated edge of his new short sword made a fleshy grinding sound as it ripped through soft flesh and hard scales.

He quickly withdrew his sword and kicked the corpse in the chest, sending it backwards into the close approaching Kobold behind it.
The third one dashed to the right to avoid the corpse and closed the distance with an impressive leap.
Woo!
On the way down it tried to cut him in half with a fast overhead strike.
Claude sidestepped and turned to stab into its midsection. Before he could reach it, the creature made a jerking motion with its hips and milliseconds later, something slammed into his stomach.
Crack!
"Ack!" Claude stumbled back several steps and looked up to see the Kobold raising to its full height. Behind it, a snake-like long green tail waved back and forth.

"Tails. Right." Claude said as the Kobold and its now recovered pack mate chased after him.
The one he fought before attacked again with a high kick aimed at his face.
Woo!
Claude slid across the grass so he was facing its back.
Shlck!
"ARRRRGH!!!" The Kobold roared in pain as its thick tail was sliced off and hit the ground flopping around like a fish out of water.
Before he could finish off the tailless Kobold, the other came in at his right side.
"HSSS!"
Woom!
The creature split the wind with a wild swing from its rusty Morningstar.
Claude dashed backwards to avoid the blow only for it to come swinging at him again.
The Kobold continued attacking while Claude continued dodging— while also delivering his own strikes.

Frosty and Ashe took down their opponents first. The silky and slender Phantom Wolf used her speed and stamina to tire out the creature and kill it. Frosty used his powerful and heavy body to knock down his opponent and use his signature move— eating its face.
After ten seconds, the Kobold wielding the Morningstar stopped to take a breath. Tiny superficial cuts marked its lighter colored belly and darker hard scaled arms. The one missing it's tail stood at its side tasting the air with its unsettlingly long tongue.
"[Here they come.]" Arne said before the two hissed and sprinted after him.
Claude ran, focusing on staying in the area between them both. Once he reached them, he jumped as high as he could and sailed over them both.
Their heads stayed on him like magnets to metal while their bodies carried out their missed attacks.
He landed behind them hitting the ground and rolling once before finding himself back on his feet.
The first of his opponents to recover was the Kobold missing its tail. He could hear its claws ripping up the dirt with every step it made towards him.
He spun around just in time to see it coming down on top of him.
"HSSss!"
SHLCK!
The scaled creature landed on his blade— but not before closing its jaws over his shoulder.

"RRGGRR!" Claude growled in response to the creatures reptilian teeth splitting his leather armor and sinking into his skin.
Shlck!
"Hssss....."
He twisted the sword inside the Kobold, tearing its flesh and organs into a red bloody mess. He felt it's scaly hard body go limp soon after.

He tossed the body off of him just in time to notice the faint sound of grass being torn right next to him. He was too late to react.
"HSSS!"
WOO!
CRACK!
The Kobolds rusty Morningstar slammed into his side hard enough to lift him off his feet and into the grass a dozen feet away.
He was out for less than a second before two familiar sounds brought him back. The first being a familiar humming sound in the deepest portions of his mind that was just barely loud enough for him to hear it and know what it meant. The second was coming from the outside world.
Footsteps. Heavy footsteps that tore up the ground with every big impact. The Kobold was coming to finish the job.
Claude's green eyes burst open and his hand shot up towards the sky. Elemental Magic already flowed freely from his fingers and the call of Nature transformed from a calming hum to a wild cry in his mind.
"Not today dammit!" He growled before shutting his hand into a fist.
The grass all around him shivered and grew in response to his magic. In the distance, he could hear the grass growing and fastening itself around his attacker until the Kobold was in a vine-like tomb all the way up to its shoulders.
[70 % HP Remaining. (245/350)]
He got up, picking up his sword at the same time while he took note of the bruise he could feel that was already healing on his ribs.
The Kobold in front of him fought against the vines that continued to grow and tighten around its body like a snake constricting around a mouse. The more it fought, the tighter the tomb became.
Fwoosh!
He blasted from his position with zero hesitation and ran his sword through the Kobolds neck with a wet and fleshy tearing sound that ended in its head landing in the grass near its rooted body.

The battle inside the clearing came to abrupt end around the same time. Silence fell over the forest, leaving him with the sound of his own breathing and the Wolves around him panting faintly.
As he stood in the grass he could only think one thing.
"There's no way the Kobolds killed the Raiders. But if that's true. Then what did?"
