章 527: Strike The Generals!

Uyana dashed through the undead field, her weapon in hand. The ground underneath her feet felt soft. Undoubtedly the explosion Akiol had caused had loosened the ground, but occasionally she spotted a bone fragment fly out.

As an undead reached for her she cleaved off its arm with a swing. As her haori fluttered about she paused, "Anyone have eyes on our target?"

"Akiol sent an image of what he looks like, but it seems the generals weren't apart of the initial force.", Yemm replied.

"So we're supposed to search him out? I'm positive Six Lights thought this out more. Else why were we teleported immediately?"

"You couldn't achieve that Territory thing so they had to use other methods."

Setting aside the comment about her inability Uyana continued to speak her train of thought, "Considering we were dropped directly into battle means someone is expecting a different response from the undead. In that case we should. . ."

Her gaze turned towards the Lich's tower. According to their original strategy the generals should linger around the location. If the majority force was meant to tackle the horde of undead, then their task should be to move behind the front lines.

So why not teleport them closer to their targets? Uyana couldn't answer this question herself and instead severed several more undead. Pointing at the tower she spoke, "We move there! Find our target like Akiol wants us to!"

Gan slammed an undead's head into the softened floor and disagreed, "We would've been transported closer if that's what he wanted."

"But we weren't!"

"Which goes to show we're needed here!"

"Actually it was Kan'na who brought us here, and Yielya who strategized. There's a chance we weren't moved closer because of the limitations behind mass teleportation. Akiol made it clear who our target was, so I say we ignore the whys and ifs and head towards the tower like Uyana said.", Noen spoke up.

"Unfortunately I agree. The tower it is!", Yemm finalized the order.

Bakery Basics fought through the undead horde to break free. As they pushed past the final group and made their way outside of the encirclement another group made its presence known. It was none other than Determined Souls! Oddly enough it seems the two different groups came to the same conclusion.

The two teams glanced at each other and a mutual understanding formed. Convening together the two teams began to push forward together. Combining their efforts without directly communicating. With their combined might it did not take very long to approach the tower.

Using the ravine they rapidly climbed upwards, only to be stopped. A cavalry unit stood at the top, commanded by none other than Northan. Brandishing his Gundao he roared, "You will not approach any further!"

Era lifted her sword into a stance, "This is our target. Will you guys be fine?"

Yemm smiled, "Yeah we'll be fine. Problem is getting past this group."

Quol examined the cavalry force and shook his head, "For this case I recommend a temporary alliance. Once you guys find an opportunity to slip past, go for it. Otherwise work with us."

Glances shot through Bakery Basics before Yemm made the call, "Deal."

Iyh, Uyana, Immen, and Era took the forward charge. The rest of their teams hovered further back but also provided their support. Northan seemed to be impressed, pointing his gundao forward he roared, "Charge! Do not let them pass this point!"

The undead horses began to charge down the ravine. With no other way to go the two teams were forced to take the charge head on! Uyana, still under the effects of Synced Nexus, outpaced the rest of the teams and pushed forward. Era watched her figure with a frown, she had watched the final of the professional competition. It was clear that Bakery Basics outmatched Determined Souls in just about every category.

Yet the one who stood out most to her was Uyana. Despite wielding nothing but a wooden bokken, Uyana constantly pushed herself to the extreme. Every step she became stronger. That kind of determination, that sort of evolution. . . Era wanted to replicate it herself.

Cherry blossoms scattered across the various undead as Uyana met the initial charge. Cleaving through the First Stage undead with ease, the charge proved to be nothing but a blockade. Era grit her teeth and doubled her efforts. Raising her off hand she flung a fireball into the closest enemies. The undead horses stumbled and Era leapt forward, her sword cleaving through the riders.

Quol gripped the brim of his sorcerer's hat and twirled his staff. Not willing to let Bakery Basics outshine Determined Souls he pointed forward and an eruption of flame exploded in the middle of the cavalry charge. One of the best benefits of ascending Stages as a Sorcerer was that the previous Stage's spells became chantless. With enough proficiency one could remove or reduce chants of their current Stage's spells, but ascending a Stage was the easiest method.

Additionally the teaching from Kan'na came into play, and Quol learned more simple and basic spells to increase his arsenal to not rely on powerful chant requiring spells. Gan flickered to the front and smashed a horde of undead cavalry units into their comrades. Immen blocked a blow and it bounced off. Stepping forward he slammed his targe into the cavalry unit and made it stumble. Hairn descended above it and stabbed his dagger into the rider's head. Several swift stabs followed and took down the cavalry unit with ease.

Rolling to cushion his fall he called out, "Let's not let them overshadow us!"

"Agreed!"

Uyu cast a large AOE healing spell in a group of undead, the purifying abilities caused parts of their bodies to turn to ash. Era sliced a cavalry unity to pieces and pushed out a palm. A wave of water blast forth through the cavalry unit and onto more incoming enemies. Smacking the same palm onto the ground she let forth a wave of electricity through the water and stopped the cavalry in their place. This caused the units behind them to trip over their comrades and caused a pile up.

Quol twirled his staff and pointed it at the pile of cavalry and formed a [Chain Lightning] spell causing the pile of bodies to char. Uyana witnessed this and understood the reasoning behind Akiol recruiting Determined Souls.

Their debut in the professional competition was quickly triumphed by Bakery Basic's one shot spree, and Six Lights' tutoring match. Because of it Determined Souls hadn't gained a lot of attention, but after facing against Akiol Uyana wanted to see how the other teams fared. To her Determined Souls wasn't entirely impressive, except for their teamwork.

They worked together without shouting commands to each other, the way they built off each other's skillsets was something Bakery Basics wasn't proficient in. This was clearly shown during the Professional Competition, when they separated Six Lights into individual battles to make use of their own strengths. For Bakery Basics to learn such teamwork. . . no it was too late. After saving Aunt Venny's bakery several members of Bakery Basics stopped playing. They had only participated for the prize money after all.

To this Uyana felt a pang of regret, despite how hard they pushed themselves she really enjoyed playing this game with them. Comparing that to the silent synchronization of Determined Souls, it was clear what was lacking. This only fueled her to perform better, and she swung her bokken with renewed vigor!

Fluttering cherry blossoms descended on the undead cavalry, and a slice would appear in its location. Northan noticed his mighty cavalry unit being bested in combat, and this infuriated the general. Pointing it upwards he roared, "Do not falter!"

A pulse radiated and the undead cavalry gained newfound strength. Yet despite this buff they still didn't stand a chance against Second Stage combatants! Gan flipped over a unit and drop kicked another. Uyana formed several cherry blossoms and spread them out in a circular pattern, shredding any undead nearby. Johan deflected an attack and another undead received the damage.

Despite their efficiency however, the constant input of undead in a funnel was proving to be quite the blockade. It became a standstill, and as the undead got cut down they slowly rose again thanks to the effect of the Territory. It was at this point that the two came to a realization: they weren't going to fulfill their duties like this.

Hairn was the first to act upon this realization. Leaping back he walked behind Yemm and activated [Stealth]. Swiftly running along the side of the ravine walls he pushed his way past the charging cavalry and directly headed towards Northan.

Leaping above the cavalry he gripped his dagger with both hands and went to stab. However to his surprise Northan lifted his gundao and swung across the air. Hastily deflecting Hairn managed to block the blow but was sent tumbling into the ravine wall. Northan adjusted his grip on the gundao and roared, "Simple tactics! You'll need more than power trespassers!"

Freeing himself Hairn grit his teeth. The Territory was proving to be incredibly unfair!

With December heralds interesting news.

I have spent quite the amount of time reviewing, correcting, editing, and rewriting various parts of this novel. For the following month I intend to post a chapter (per day) along with the edits/changes/corrections of a Volume. Today as the first of December comes the First Volume and a chapter. With a change to the beginning of the novel, and mostly minor error corrections.

You don't have to reread, for the content is mostly unchanged.
