Amon was there for Layla all night long, by her side, and never leaving. He didn't even know why he's feeling like a human and he thought that maybe it's because he's disguised as Layla's brother but Layla doesn't even have a real brother and how is that possible? The disguise was strong but it could not be the reason why he's feeling an emotion.
Today is weekend and Layla's fever is still high and she couldn't even get up from her own bed in exhaustion and due to the sprain so even if she has to work for today, she's staying in and Amon already has taken care of that business. Amon doesn't know anything about being a human so he just stays beside her even if Layla's obviously hungry because of the worsening rumbling of her stomach. Layla groans hoarsely but she couldn't open her still swelling eyes so she speaks up to Amon as she could feel his presence beside her because of the powerful and slightly scary aura that's surrounding him and her.
"Amon..." She breathed out weakly while she lifts up her arm and her hand is searching for him. Amon grasps her hand and held it between his hands.
"Human." He answers while nodding even though Layla couldn't see him.
Layla scoffs and chuckles. "You really are the weak angel, aren't you?" Layla sarcastically said, her anger towards him is still evident while her lips turned into a small sly smirk. Amon looked at her with furrowed brows and he thinks to himself that if it isn't his obligation to look out for her then he would have killed her for saying stupid words and her actions that annoyed the crap out of him.
"Sorry, anyway, I would really appreciate your company more if you could just prepare me a meal to eat." She told him. Amon looked at her as if he hasn't heard the word meal before but it's actually because he never needed a meal except for human souls, surely he didn't know what to do.
Amon opens his mouth to ask the girl how to make a human meal but somebody knocks on the door and rang the doorbell which made him stop and glanced at her door. "Were you expecting someone?"
Layla opens her heavy eyes and shook her head, lightly. "No, but maybe my classmates are visiting. You need to change how you look, Amon. Everyone knows that I have no brother or another relative so change your disguise and choose wisely." Layla told him before she rolls over and turned her back to him, closing her eyes and letting her mind take a rest from everything that's happening.
Amon scowls but changed his human form quickly into an old woman before he walks out of her room to answer the door.
He peeps into the small hole and he saw kids around Layla's age accompanied by another old woman. He groans before opening the door as he didn't want to waste his time talking with another human being that's stupid and they still act like they are the smartest creatures in the universe when obviously they're not and they're annoying.
The teacher and the students looked at him with curiosity as they weren't informed that Layla has another guardian and they're actually visiting Layla to see how's she doing. Alex looked at the old woman with suspicion as Layla had told him that she's in danger and people might go into her house to put her into a foster home which, as a friend of Layla, he will never let that happen and he'll help her.
"Who are you? Are you going to get Layla because if you are then you might want to think carefully and thoroughly again before doing that." Alex warned her with a glare.
Amon almost scoffed and hissed at the boy but he smiled, sinisterly. "Why no, boy. I'm actually here because I am a friend of um, Arthur and he asked me before he died to care for Layla."
Alex looked at her up and down. "But you're just a friend and how can we know you're trustworthy?"
Amon's smile got wider and his eyes widening too, making them be scared of the old woman and the teacher put an arm in front of her students protectively, pushing them away. "I am a close friend of his. We've been friends since we were in school. So, now, what do you want?"
Their homeroom teacher stepped in front and pushed Alex away while folding her arms in front of her chest. "Give me one reason why I shouldn't call the police, ma'am. We aren't informed that Sir Arthur has a trustworthy friend and Layla doesn't have any more relatives so please, kindly tell us a reason why we should trust you." The teacher said.
"Yes, ma'am. I believe we have every right to be suspicious of you." Liz told while holding out her phone and pressing the number of 9-1-1.
Amon knew that he was doomed and he couldn't do anything even as a demon who is thriving for their souls because he couldn't risk being stupid like them. He couldn't even admit that he was the one who's wrong and stupid at this point because he doesn't like being compared to humans. Besides, he saw some human food on their hands so maybe he can change their minds to make his task simple.
"I'm sorry. It's just that it's been rough for me, for us. I-I'm devastated about Arthur's death and please, I am really a friend of his but I'm not from here so that might be the reason why you haven't heard of me." Amon started crying hysterically while making an ugly crying face and wiping his imaginary tears to make it more believable.
The teacher and the students started to feel awkward and overwhelmed by his sudden burst of tears and they looked at her as if she was crazy and some of them are even chuckling because of the ugly face. "Okay, okay but we're not done with you just yet. Please give this to Layla and tell her that we're here for her whenever she needs help and we'll be back here again for another time."
They scurried away after giving the foods that they prepared for Amon. Amon chuckled darkly and looked at them with amusement. "Stupid humans." He clicked his tongue before going inside and closing the door behind him.
He heads upstairs into Layla's room while holding the different kinds of foods that those humans brought. He opens the door to her room to find her trying to get up from her bed while putting on a cardigan around her petite body.
"What are you even doing human? Why can't you get that you need to rest because you're not an angel or a demon who can be active 24/7?" Amon stopped her from getting up and he pushed her down to the bed while Layla glares at him.
"What the hell, Amon? I'm just trying to get to the bathroom!" Layla said and winced as her whole surrounding begins to spin and there's vomit that's rising up to her throat, daring to get out. Layla held onto his arm and she quickly got up and head into the bathroom while limping, slowly but she managed to do her business.
"Oh." Amon starts to realize how much he doesn't know about human lives at all because he never had the interest to find out. He's just clueless when it comes to what humans do and what is the purpose of having humans on this planet when there could be been much better species. He doesn't know but he's disappointed with that.
"Way to get them to believe you, Amon." Layla says weakly, her face and lips paler than ever while she hugged herself to keep warm and she just couldn't stop being angry at Amon because at least there her mind is occupied and she wouldn't think of what happened yesterday or to her parents. Her tears are threatening to fall again but she doesn't want that.
"You saw that?"
"Yeah...Why did you choose to be an old woman? Thank you so much for listening to me when I told you to choose wisely. At least next time, if that ever happens again, please disguise yourself properly." Layla told him as she sat on her bed and stares at the food that's in Amon's hands. "Is that human food? Can I see?"
Amon scowls but gave her the food, being his stubborn usual demon self. "Yeah, yeah, don't tell me what to do, human. Please just eat."
Layla accepts the food with her shaky hands and Amon sighs, taking away the containers off her hands and he opened it. "I'm going to feed you, now just don't talk and behave."
The two of them spend their day bickering and arguing like a father and a daughter would normally do if that daughter is naughty and rebellious while Amon feeds her the food that her classmates and teachers brought for her. Layla, even though she has the energy to argue with the angel, she hasn't enough energy to stand up again and because of that, the different thoughts come back into her mind so in the end she lost her appetite and she lays on her bed while trying her best not to cry about all of that. Amon watched over her, again, not leaving her side because he wanted to make sure she's going to be fine and because he's now her guardian.
"Amon...if I die where will I go?" Layla suddenly asks him, her voice barely whispering and Amon could sense that she's trying her best not to cry although it hurts her head more.
Amon looks down at her and sat on the bed, rubbing her arms awkwardly, not sure how to comfort a human. "I don't know, kid, I don't know..." He answers truthfully and he really did said the truth because he really doesn't know where she would go after she dies, no one really knows because she's a never meant to be born child. "Layla, if you want to cry then cry, your head is just going to hurt more and you will not heal in time if you tried pushing back the tears. Just let it all out and I promise I won't leave your side. You don't have to always pretend that you're strong."
Layla sniffs and nods again and again until she breaks down and faced him, hugging him and bursting out crying while Amon just rubbed her back, like what he sees humans do when someone hugs them. He doesn't know what's happening and he is afraid that the past would come back and haunt them again but right now, he just wants to comfort her in the best way he can possibly do as a demon, like a father and a kind brother, he comforts her, copying what other humans do.
