章 2: Chapter 2: Daeksung.

"Not bad," Seol Jihu slurped the noodles and praised.

Considering the price, it had been worth it.

The broth was perfectly seasoned, and the pasta, as he had already mentioned: not bad at all.

At once, he turned his gaze back to the phone.

"Someone really didn't know their priorities well," he commented as he played a video.

He felt sincerely amazed that his phone had internet access.

In that, he was able to discern a certain "detail."

This was not the land he knew.

Cities he had heard of, and others he remembered nothing about.

Famous events that occurred and those that changed.

But other than that, and the occasional other point, not that it matters much.

There was no one he should miss, since he was an orphan.

And he didn't get to raise a family either.

Moreover, he lacked any friendships of a particularly deep character.

Whereupon, he did not even set out to look for them, even if they still existed in this world.

After all, he would know about them, but they did not know about Seol Jihu.

And trying to prove that he was that person they knew, in his view, was an unnecessary waste of energy.

In turn, he lamented that his previous world and this one were so similar.

"I can no longer simply and comfortably become someone rich," he complained.

He soon finished his cup of noodles.

After letting out a slight burp and patting his stomach with satisfaction, he said. "I should start looking for a job."

Entered the search engine: Naver.

He estimated that it should be a simple job without many requirements.

Even if the original Seol Jihu possessed a degree, without the relevant experience and skills, it would be no more than that, a degree.

Likewise, he, who was an engineer, lacked the diploma that would validate him as such.

"This one should work," he decided.

The screen showed the opportunity to be a delivery driver for a restaurant.

The name of the place was Daeksung.

The restaurant was described to the public as a place with delicious food, a cozy atmosphere and fast home deliveries.

He was not aware of it, but the stars given to Daeksung by the clientele served as an accurate description, to say the least.

So, he applied after making sure his personal details were properly recorded.

Yawning, he said. "Time for bed."

He was exhausted after cleaning out the dump he had in his apartment and subsequently finding a job that matched his limited and poor resume.

* * *

In the morning and without having had breakfast, he headed to the interview.

He was not nervous; he had experienced many other interviews.

In fact, he was confident.

On the other hand, South Korea was a different kind of society.

Perhaps it was more complicated than it appeared at first glance.

But the conclusion was the same.

You just have to do, what you have to do.

Nothing more, nothing less.

Upon entering Daeksung and announcing the reason for his arrival, he was taken to a waiting room.

There he could see others who, like him, wanted the job.

The vast majority were young.

If Seol Jihu remembered correctly, the summer vacations were approaching, so it made sense.

'They must be looking for a source of extra income.'

One by one they passed until it was his turn.

He was the last of all.

"Seol Jihu, you may come in."

A woman checked a sheet of paper and then looked up as she called out loudly.

"Yes, it's me."

He got up and walked through the door without any nervousness.

In the room, there was a man with gold-rimmed glasses sitting behind a table.

His name and position were written on a sign on the table.

"Welcome, you may sit down," Dr. Seo Jun-ho pointed in front of him.

"Thank you, it's my pleasure."

Seol Jihu extended his hand to Dr. Seo Jun-ho and Dr. Seo Jun-ho politely reciprocated.

Then, the interview began.

He was asked several questions, to which he answered in a pre-scheduled manner.

What can you bring to the company? Have you had any experience with the Daeksung brand? And so on.

A while later, he came out.

Seol Jihu assessed how he had done; he reviewed the examiner's expressions.

He thought and nodded with a smile. "Yes, it should work."

And it did.

He started delivering orders that same day.

"Here you go."

He received a helmet with an orange vest, which had a chicken print on the back.

They should be more original.

But on reflection, that was fine; it was an easy image to remember.

Just because it's simple, that's no indication that it's wrong.

In any case, he was not a graphic designer, so it was a matter of no particular concern to him.

In his former life, his work was for people, so an idea he did have, but nothing specifically aesthetic.

He tended to see things in a more functional way.

As he rambled between one idea and another, he arrived at the first gate of a house for delivery.

He pressed the doorbell.

A teenager soon opened the door.

After that, a protocol process took place that finally ended in his departure.

The payment had already been made via web: He just had to deliver the order to the customer.

So it continued until his last order arrived, which marked the end of his shift.

Because of the hourly contract he handled, he would immediately receive his payment when he finished.

That was an important factor that dictated his choice to take the job in the first place, after all.

Of course, it wasn't all roses.

Since he was almost completely unfamiliar with the South Korean urban nomenclature system, there were times when he got lost.

However, with his agile mind, he was quick to solve the inconveniences.

"This is the last one," Seol Jihu expressed.

He was not aware of it at the time, but the threads of fate were already beginning to intertwine.
