Crynn POV
"Right or left?" O'Connell pointed one hand in an entrance and the other hand to the opposite entrance. "Right's always right, right?" One of the best maze clearing tactics are always going right and most games put going right as a correct action, why not an Egyptian ruin. One by one, Warden Jonathan and Evelyn all nodded together.
"Right it is then!" O'Connell too agreed and took out a flashlight, and I also have a flashlight, a more modern one and way better than O'Connell's too. "Do any of you have a flashlight each? It's will be much better if everyone has one," O'Connell asked everyone while also walking to the right opening. And the rest... shook their heads.
"None? No one has any?" O'Connell tried to be clearer and said it one more time for affirmation, and they all shook their heads a second time. *sigh* "Fine, stay close, don't separate, the diffraction and reflection of ancient ruins aren't suppose to be good," O'Connell walked through the entrance and looked around pointing the light at all four corners.
"Ok, safe," O'Connell walked forward followed by me and then the rest of the group watching the back. "101 dangers of an ancient ruin, different kinds of traps for different kinds of rooms," Evelyn suddenly hold mine and O'Connell's shoulders the pointing at something on the ground. O'Connell pointed his flashlight downwards, an almost indiscernible white string is laying there just waiting for us to cross it.
"Holy shite, everyone stay back and stop," O'Connell looked closely at the string, connected on both sides to a tiny hole. Evelyn gripped O'Connell's hands and pointed the flashlights to the right and left wall of the corridor less than 1 feet away, a lot of holes sized about 10 cm diameter each lined in a symmetrical way, looking very normal but not to me.
I've seen a lot of adventuring and treasure hunting movies and one of the things to look out for are holes placed orderly in walls, either there are going to be spikes or spears coming out, acid are also in the list. O'Connell then took out a short knife and cut the string in two and as I thought, spears from both sides came out in a split second, so fast we could only see glimpses of its movement.
O'Connell's sweating bullets, he almost just died, "Thank you Evelyn, how did you notice that anyway," O'Connell is starting to get calm once again patting his chest a few times. "Actually, I noticed the wall first before instinct brought me down," Evelyn pointed to the wall and downwards. Suddenly, the spears retracted themselves into the wall.
"This trap won't be triggered again. How about now, we point our lights downward," I made a most sensible suggestion, I almost lost myself my mission completion for that carelessness just then, O'Connell must not die. "Yes it's best if we do that," Evelyn replied for O'Connell before nudging him to continue on.
Be careful, light steps, light steps, no traps yet. We walked slowly through the dark tunnel passage way, Isn't this too long a tunnel? We've been walking for at least 2 minutes now, with no ends to be seen. "Are there no more traps left," Jonathan asked from behind, looking carefully at everyone's steps and on the ground, alert for any hidden strings.
"Don't say, don't jinx it," I warned him, the last thing I want is a jinx which is always terrible. "What's a jinx," Evelyn curiously asked, eyes blinking in the dark, probably because of all the dust flying around in this accursed place. "a jinx is... You know what nevermind," I don't really know how to explain jinx, I don't think its popular in this time.
"Wait! What's a jinx!" Evelyn asked me again, "I can't explain what a jinx is, I don't know how to explain it, it's kind of a word to describe if someone is saying something about the current situation and if the someone said it won't happen it will happen and the other way around," I tried explaining it in an unhistorical and untheoretical way by using my opinion of the subject instead of taking the real definitions of it.
Evelyn nodded and I turned back to the front, looking carefully on O'Connell's leading steps and the light of the flashlight. O'Connell stepped a step front and then on the floor, a decline could be seen. "Crap!" I pulled O'Connell with my fastest speed possible and it seems Evelyn also saw the decline and pulled O'Connell together.
O'Connell was pulled backwards together with me and Evelyn as we watched beside the decline, the wall rapidly closed from both sides, it would've squished O'Connell if not for our extreme carefulness. "You jinxed it Jonathan!" I shouted at Jonathan, I hate jinxes and O'Connell could've died for the second time.
"Hamunaptra really is a city of the dead," O'Connell said, sweating for the second time, seeing death almost happen twice is not healthy for anyone's mentality. "I never did understand why ancient civilizations have traps everywhere," I purposefully said while eyeing Evelyn and she eyed me back.
"On the contrary, There's very rarely any ruin excavated that contained traps in it, traps aren't found normally on sites like these, not even the Pyramid of Giza has a lot of traps, only one or two are found to be traps," Evelyn explained, I can see the confusion in her face as to why there are traps here. "Either The City of The Dead is protecting something, or is it preventing something."
"Ok cut it out, we're here for the treasure, not the history, so can we be quicker," Jonathan said in the direction of the trap, where its walls have already contracted back into where they're supposed to be. "Let's go from the corners, don't step in the center for at least another 5 feet," O'Connell warned and circled around the trap area, not touching anymore declines to the floor.
Everyone sighed in relief, suddenly warden called out, "I see something there!"
A little notice here.
From here on out, the whole arc of The Mummy will not be in the exact detail as the real movie. I can't be bothered to put in all the same as the movie right? Gotta have some originality. So some details may be removed and some other details (original) may be added. This will be applied to any other movie arcs as well.
