章 23: First Week in Konoha
A week has passed since Ren lived in the Namikaze Estate and became the head surgeon of the hospital. He was absolutely busy and he only had small time to invest for himself. In the medical field, he was slowly gaining fame for bringing back those one foot from the grave back to the world of living. Many of his patients thanked him for it but Ren just brushed it off. He was treating them for another reason after all.
He had learned about the mystical palm technique, turns out it was using chakra to speed up the natural healing of the body by transferring the right amount of chakra but he didn't learn it yet because he is still experimenting with chakra. He went to the library finding about chakra and he found about what he needed to know the most, chakra coils. Ren memorized every nook and cranny of chakra coils especially their structure.
He also tried using the chakra for himself by attracting the chakra in the air to come to him while avoiding the yellow energy or nature energy as the Frog Elders called it. The result actually surprised him. Turns out he had an inactive chakra coil himself which confused him since he was not someone from this world and thought of asking the stup*d Overseer but realized that he was low on cash and if he asked then his account points would be reduced to really low numbers.
Ren's quality of life has improved as well. After all, his job is the most tiring of all, meaning he has a high pay. When it comes to internal medicine, he would collaborate with Tsunade and through their collaborations, Ren found out about Tsunade's fear of blood due to her subtle movements and the fear in her eyes when she looked at the patient being operated on but Ren didn't care about it. Its her problem not his, he already had a lot on his plate to accomplish.
In his first week, he had made acquaintance with Teuchi, the owner of Ichiraku. Yoruichi and Ren would always eat there after a gruesome day at the hospital. He would sometimes see Kushina helping out on the shop. Her cooking skills is being polished with Teuchi's help and Ren couldn't help but feel a little impatient about asking others to teach him but he also knows that he is still considered as an outsider so he just can't ask about them to teach him their skills.
With Ren's salary, he bought furniture, clothes, and essentials he needed like plates, utensils, and many more. He had already returned the borrowed plates and utensils to the couple living beside their home. His relationship with Kushina and Minato were also getting better, they even celebrated when Minato heard of Ren's name coming from the hokage himself saying that even Orochimaru has to praise Ren for his incredible work. Although Ren and Minato haven't really met that long, Minato treated him like a little brother. Ren thought that he was faking it at first but after seeing Minato's sincere eyes after being drunk after celebrating his small success, he thought otherwise.
In their time drinking, he had heard from Minato about the academy which made Ren curious. Minato even boasted that he was going to be the teacher of a small squad of three in the future. Ren chuckled after hearing about it, he was just merely curious about it, nothing more nothing less.
Ren had also bought some flower pots and some flower seeds, intending to make a garden after seeing the almost barren estate. Kushina helped him as well in his plan on making a small garden inside the estate while making a small farm in the back of his house.
He bought many necessary seeds such as potatoes, onions, chilis, and others. Ren only wanted to plant essentials he needed in everyday life and doesn't plan on selling what he will grow in the farm at the back of his house.
Although most of what happened to Ren in the whole week is worth celebrating for, there are also things that made Ren frown.
According to Yoruichi, she had learned about the rank hierarchy of this village. At the bottom of the list are the civilians who are mostly, the common populace. Followed by a genin who are students who graduated from the ninja academy, they are mainly doing little to no risk missions from the mission board. They are also the cannon fodder sent by the nations at the start of the war, maybe for cleaning traps set by the enemy village and pave the way for the main force. The next is the chunin or those who have proven themselves worthy, They are ninja who have reached a level of maturity and ability that primarily consists of leadership skills and tactical prowess. The risk of their missions is a bit harder than the Genin rank and has a little to medium chance of dying.
Then the jonin, who are generally highly experienced and highly skilled shinobi who serve as military captains. They are often sent on A-rank missions or if they have the experience, would be sent to S-rank missions that has the highest rate of dying chance.
Then there's the Kage or the head of the village who oversees the village with a council of elders or high-ranked ninja to help run the village, be it in the economy of the village, or passing laws to help the village. There are also different clans in the village with different specialties but Yoruichi haven't personally checked it so he doesn't have any idea yet.
What made Ren frown was the hidden forces or what Yoruichi called as the Anbu. They are literally covert operatives of capable ninjas that are under the village head's rule. They are assassins who excel on the dark side of the village. Yoruichi found out about 2 separate groups of anbu. Those under the Village head, and the Root who is under a man named Danzo Shimura.
He found out that Danzo, who heard of his medical expertise, told the hokage, that because of hiss specialties, he wishes to promote him as a special jonin for his medical specialty, and have him serve under root anbu.
A special jonin is the rank between chunin and jonin rank. They don't have the overall strength of a jonin but because of their specific specialties, they were promoted in the middle.
The Hokage directly used his authority to slam Danzo's idea down because he knew that it was Jiraiya, who brought him to the village. Danzo was not suspicious about Ren being another village's spy because it was Jiraiya who brought him to the village but he also can't find out anything about Ren.
Left with no choice, Danzo decided to send two of the root anbu to monitor Ren of his every movement. He had nothing on Ren at the moment and he had the protection of Minato, Kushina, and Jiraiya.

Ren finished another day at work and was about to go to Ichiraku's for some dinner when an animal masked man appeared in front of him.
"The Hokage invites you for some tea tomorrow, please set some time aside." The Anbu said before disappearing again.
"*Sigh* Meeting him is inevitable. Besides I could use it as an excuse to laze around for a while. I've worked hard for a week... there's not even a day off..." Ren said with a sigh. Due to the hospital receiving batches of wounded nin, Ren was always needed and he was always running around the hospital. Ren's time was mostly spent on the hospital that he memorized the hospital's lay out more than his house.
Ren then felt a black cat jump on his shoulder and he patted her head.
"I'm hungry, hospital meals tastes like water." Ren complained as the two walked towards Teuchi's Ichiraku.
