章 266: Adoption Day

When Claire woke up, Ethan was already downstairs. She smelled something delicious and cinnamony coming from the kitchen and followed her nose to discover Alex was pulling cinnamon rolls out of the oven. 

He smiled when he saw her. "Good morning! I thought we should have a special breakfast since it's Ethan's big day." 

She saw the packaging sitting on the counter and knew these were the frozen kind but she was still impressed he thought of buying them. "Good idea! Where is he, anyway? I thought he would be down here."

"Last I saw, he was on the treadmill. I guess he's working off his nerves. I uh…heard you guys crying last night but didn't think it was my place to intrude. He seems fine now but are you okay?"

Claire sighed. "Yeah. We had a heart-to-heart and it was kind of rough but we worked things out. He almost called things off because he didn't want to burden me and thought he was being selfish. Where did he even get that idea?"
