章 3: Is that the sound of the police?

He lay there on that roof for almost 5 minutes and nothing changed besides a group of people forming to watch the gruesome scene on the road. With one noble soul even wanting to help the zombie who was crawling on the road, needless to say, he received payment for his concern with a nasty bite from the crawling fiend, before he ran off terrified towards the crowd.

It was kind of bizarre to see a crowd of people watching the scene of a crawling zombie and two corpses on the street. Cei wasn't entirely sure what made them stay and watch the scene but still, he didn't think too deeply about their reasoning after all he wasn't a psychologist.

But just as he started to hear the blaring of police sirens in the background he suddenly saw the body of victim number one suddenly convulse. It appeared he was not the only one who noticed as soon the crowd suddenly broke into an uproar. And as both he and the uproarious crowd were observing this apparent change, The convulsing body began to twitch and convulse increasingly aggressively as the man who he had previously confirmed was indeed 100% dead, suddenly opened his glazed eyes and released a groan.

However, as it totteringly began to stumble to its feet, the cops had finally arrived and burst out from their patrol car as one cop began to disperse the crowd that had formed. And another confronted the freshly awakened zombie which was still a little disoriented, seemingly overwhelmed by its miraculous revival. And even from the distance, Cei was away from the confrontation he heard the police officer shout at the zombie.

"Hands in the air!"

However, hearing the warning the seemingly disorientated zombie seemed to have regained some clarity as it looked towards the slightly fearful officer. But it didn't seem to hear the officers command as it slowly stumbled towards the officer as if heavily intoxicated. This only served to unnerve the officer more as he shouted again louder this time, before pulling out his previously holstered pistol.

"Oi! You, I'm warning you to stop moving and don't resist!"

Hearing the commotion, the other officer who was trying to disperse the mob moved towards his companion as he also reached for his weapon and joined his partner and confronted the zombie as it moved closer to the officer. Before shouting another warning.

"STOP! THIS IS YOUR LAST WARNING! IF YOU CONTINUE TO RESIST WE WILL SHOOT!"

However, it was at this point that the seemingly disorientated zombie seemed to have fully awoken as it suddenly released a heart-rendering roar as it broke into an uncontrollable sprint and lunged towards the newly arrived officer.

*Bang! Bang! Bang!*

All of a sudden shots were heard as the sprinting zombie was hit by several bullets in the chest, however, not before it had reached the officer and closed its maw on the shoulder of the officer. Causing him to scream out in pain as the zombie feverishly drove its teeth further into his flesh while tackling the officer to the ground. His companion seemingly shocked by the development emptied his magazine into the cannibalistic zombie, however, despite the sheer amount of lead inside the zombie it seemed to not bed dead or even injured showing no reaction to even that many shots. As it continued to tear into the bloodied shoulder of the screaming and struggling officer. The officer panicking dropped his gun as he pulled out his police baton as he ran over to help his struggling companion as he shouted.

"DIE! YOU FUCKING IMMORTAL BASTARD!"

Before he swung his baton repeatedly onto the feating zombie, and this time he seemed to have learned from his mistakes as he aimed for the head as he repeatedly bludgeoned its head causing a dull sound to ring out as the collision between the officer's baton and zombies skull continued to sound out. And as he continued to whale on the zombie it finally slumped over as an odd sound rang out as the zombie's skull caved in and life seemed to drain out of its eyes.

After the seemingly immortal zombie finally seemed to have taken its last breath, the sound of the officers harsh breathing could be heard. But at this moment he finally got a look of his companion bleeding out on the floor.

And he ran over to his bleeding companion who seemed to be struggling to breathe as he flipped the slumped zombie which had fallen onto his injured comrade. Before ripping his shirt and placing it on the gaping bite wound which was gushing blood everywhere. He was almost in tears as he pressed his shirt down firmly onto his wound, before shouting out in a pleading tone to the nervously watching crowd nearby.

"Please can somebody help! Is anyone a doctor!"

But before anyone could respond a crawling zombie which had made its way over to him jumped and latched onto his leg causing him to release a harrowing scream. He immediately flipped his body to face the zombie which seemed to be relishing the taste of his leg before lifting his leg and kicking the zombie away from his body, however, before he could even finish the job. A roar was heard from behind him and he knew he was finished. Because while everyone's attention was on the brutal fight between the zombie and the officers the second dead body had reanimated with only Cei managing to see the zombie get up from his vantage point and again like the first reanimation, spent some time disorientated. But it eventually was attracted by the struggle.

And as the final officer was finished by the two zombies. The final vestige of authority was lost and the crowd scattered in fear, scared that they would become the next victims of the man-eating creatures. However, before the crowd dispersed completely Cei noticed the man who had been previously bitten had a very poor complexion and he internally noticed this fact, but he didn't jump to any conclusions. Because for all he knew people may only turn into zombies once they die as such with the first two cases, however, it gave him enough proof to be wary of everyone regardless of their state as you never knew who was bit and he didn't want to take any chances. Because after all the transformation for zombies may differ for a live victim compared to a dead victim.

After coming out of his thoughts he once again looked at the scene on the street and as he saw the two zombies eating into the dying officer on the road he began to seriously contemplate what he was going to do next.
