No j'Jeez. Akuji didn't let me finish- I just wanted to ask him if he is a boy or a girl.' Joy thought and smiled at her own actions. 'Light must still be looking for Ren. I hope he catches up to us soon.'
Meanwhile, Light, who has bought his lunch after being tired of walking around- was really far from them because he had been led to the steel bridge of the city where he saw his mission. Joy hadn't noticed that they had different times in their necklaces because she didn't even bothered to check. However, Light's mission was a woman in her 20's, who's name was Dierdre. She was walking in the huge steel bridge that reached the next town without shoes- her faded bleached hair was curled but it was uncombed and very disorderly. Light could only see her hair that covered her hunched back and her long orange dress that was slightly off her shoulder which extended into the ground. Light could hear her frail sobs with where he stood because he maintained a considerable gap between them- and he was sure that she won't notice him even though he seemed like a scary stalker.
People on the sidewalk just walked past her without looking at her. She did not even dared to stop even when she bumped on other people or if others glared at her because she was just walking - like a carcass controlled by something.
It was about an hour of walking since he parted with the company of his fellows when Dierdre stopped walking. She watched the birds that were flying on the hot blue sky that extended into the unknown.
All of a sudden, she fell on her knees and sobbed. She used her dress to wipe her tears and she held on to the yellow railing that separated the sidewalk and the road that was laden heavily with vehicles. Her crying still hadn't came to a halt and her sobbing was accompanied by her rumbling tummy.
Light was alerted because he noticed how pale her skin is and how skinny she looked when she bumper her head on the railing as she whispered at herself. He approached her as she continuously bumped her head on the solid and as he saw that he forehead was already swelling, Light placed his hand on Dierdre's forehead's point of impact so she wouldn't hurt herself anymore. Dierdre bumped her head again, but this time, she had Light's hands to protect her. Light handed her the plastic bag he was carrying around all this time while tears seemed to have dried up in her eyes.
"White." Dierdre muttered as she tried to look at Light but the sunlight had made her catch only a glimpse of him. "A bright white- a pure one."
Light was confused with what she was saying, but he realized that the sun had been hurting her eyes so he lend her his hand and helped her stand up.
"If you are a color, you'd be pure white." Dierdre said as she stood up. "Whilst I'm black- a dark, scary black."
She looked at Light's eyes directly and Light felt a deep sadness that emanates from her. Because of Dierdre's strong mixed feelings of sadness, of emptiness and of desolation, Light could almost see it when he looked at her- it was like a rushing tide of ocean water that- once touched, will spread over his entire being. Itbwas a sadness that will forever haunt him,
'But my mission.' Light thought to himself and he tried to fight of the sadness that had been ready to engulf him any time. He looked at her directly in the eyes but she seemed unfazed. "Don't you think that there is something beautiful with darkness?"
"I don't have anything except darkness. Can you feel my pain? Of course not- because you are a pure white- you are without flaw, you have infinite possibilities because you can see your path." Dierdre said and walked to face the river.
"White isn't always perfect." Light replied and Dierdre looked at him. "Sometimes white people also have darkness inside them and they are just trying to conceal it with how bright they seem."
He approached Dierdre and looked into the shallow waters before them. "A blinding light you see might also dim without anyone noticing it." he turned to face Dierdre who now seemed astound. "Light is easy to love, but when you see their darkness inside, I don't know how you will be able to handle it because the wider the smile of a person is, the bigger, the darker, and the more deadly their color is."
"Are you an angel?" Dierdre asked him. Light smiled and leaned on the railing faci g the river. The conversation wasn't new to him at all anymore because he had been asked multiple times.
"If you say I am, then I am." Dierdre was astound the moment he opened his mouth to speak- and when he did, a cold wind brushed his hair and she felt shivers that calmed her. However, it was like she was awaken when she realized that Light's color had dimmed when she tried to look at his eyes. "I can't feel your pain, but that is just because every people experiences different pains."
"Maybe we are on the same boat- we are both blacks." Dierdre said. Light smiled again because he realized that her thoughts immediately changed.
"We aren't on the same boat- we have different shades of black but I assure you that we are dealing the same hell- but we have different demons."
Tears had started to slide down the cheeks of Dierdre again because of Light's words.
'I don't know you, but why do you speak like you know me?' Dierdre thought.
"The light quickly goes while the darkness keeps it grip. You might hate this life because it has been terrible to you, but isn't there even one tiny happiness that will be sufficient enough for you to live your life?" Light asked.
"What kind of happiness is that?" Dierdre asked him.
"I can't define it, but can you at least remember any time of your life that you became so happy that you felt that 'Wow, this happiness is so awesome, i will hold on to it' like that?" Light asked.
"A certain happiness..." Dierdre thought so hard and she realized that happiness can't just be from a certain event- it can be from a certain person. She smiled as she had flashbacks.
Dierdre is a novice author who had written many books that she clearly had no chance of publishing because of her limited audience- but she clearly had some readers that supported her even though it was clear that her work is a beginner's.
"You can still improve! You can change your medium because that app isn't very progressive at all." Ann, one of her friends told her one time. "You should update now because I am so intrigued with your new characters and don't spoil me!"
"Dont you ever think that your work is ugly or wrong. It's not bland - it's actually nice and the plot is nice too! And I am always here for you- I'll support you all the way!" Joneline, also one of her friends said.
Their words had echoed merrily in her ears like a music that was composed beautifully. She hadn't even gave the people who had supported her althrough out her book a nice ending to her stories to which they patiently waited for updates. Both of them had done something good to her because she felt that what she was doing can also bring her closer to her dream- she felt that they got her back and their genuine support will always be with her.
"I promise I will create a chapter solely for you. The whole world will know how great you both are! You did not only give me an unwavering support- you gave me hope- you gave me a reason to write again- a reason to hang on to my life because of the love you had given me. You have both given me back my trust in humanity! I will write because you are reading it! I will present you with a better Dierdre and a better story!"
A bright blinding light had enveloped Dierdre after she had shouted her heart out loud. She closed her eyes tightly, and the moment she realized it, she was falling down the bridge. She had remembered it all now- she had really jumped. Her memory is distorted because she remembered herself talking to a person in the bridge but why does she also remember jumping off?
"So you have chosen to live." A familiar voice at her back said. It was Light and he was falling with her head first. However, she felt like everyrhing that had happened to her seemed to become slower- and she was falling in a slow pace even though she should be falling rapidly by now.
"Dierdre Mallory, an author, I am Light Elkin, and the heavens have heard your desire to live."
"N-nice to meet you? What are you saying?" Dierdre asked, but a soothing calmness had comforted her out of her misery.
"I heard you. You wanted to live so you can write. Say it."
"Say what?"
"No, actually, no need, it's okay. I know it. I feel you."
Light closed his eyes and held his necklace and looked directly at Dierdre's eyes.
"I am Light, the chosen one,
By right of blood that channels through me,
I proclaim myself to thee.
Your pain and worry I vanish from thee.
From now on your heart will be at ease
And the burden you carry
Give them all to me
So your heart can finally feel the peace"
A bright golden light had emanated from Light's necklace and it gave Dierdre a sense of a feeling that was foreign to her- it was a light that's comforting- a comfort she hadn't felt for the past month since she stopped writing. She tried to open her eyes but when she did, the image of Light, who was falling with her was fading- but the light stayed with her.
"You know what?!" Dierdre shouted while Light looked at her. "I've become tired of letting people go without telling them how much I am thankful to them! Meeting you is a miracle I will never exchange for anything. Thank you. Thank you for making me feel how it feels to be happy again. Thank you for reminding me that I have people that supports me! I don't want to forget you! Please remain at least in my memories. Please! Please! Please!"
The light only intensified but Dierdre tried to keep her eyes still, but Light's image had already faded- and the last thing that Dierdre saw was a kind smile from Light before he disappered from her sight.
" Miss? Are you okay? " A person was tapping her cheeks as she opened her eyes and sehe realized where she was. She was on the top of the bridge again and a police officer had been trying to wake her up. She was soaking wet.
Light was the one who called for the poloce nearby when Dierdre fell. He had disguised as one of the onlookers and smiled warmly when he saw that she's okay.
"You will forget about me, but whatever happened today will stay with you." he said and left to meet the otheres while he was dripping wet.
