''You don't think you can do it?'' David asks Tommy in a matter of fact manner.
Tommy looks up into David's eyes with a slightly annoyed expression.
''No, I can't. It's impossible!'' He responds, throwing the small chest on to the deck.
'!'
As the chest hits the ground David's Danger sense goes off. He jumps away from the chest instinctively.
'...!?'
Jingfei looks over at David in surprise and pulls a sword out of her inventory.
"What is it!?" She exclaims.
"The chest." He responds.
"The chest?"
"Yes."
She frowns and tries to kick David in the groin. He takes a step back, unperturbed.
"The fucking chest!? Are you kidding me!? Scared me for no reason..."
She walks over to it and looks at it.
"Seems fine to me." She says, looking back at David.
"I know, but... It wouldn't go off for no reason."
"..." She looks back to the chest and ponders for a second.
David looks back up at Tommy who seems confused and slightly scared.
"Could your dad open it?"
Tommy is surprised at the question and thinks for a few seconds before answering.
"I don't know..."
"Hmm... Well, let's just put it under the deck until we can find a way to open it."
"Anyways, here is what I wanted to show you.'' David says, pulling Pete's head out of his inventory.
"Eww..." Tommy looks at the head in disgust.
"...So?" Jingfei responds with a questioning look.
"This guy was a contestant." He says with a serious face.
"!!!"
Her eyes widen in surprise and she looks back at the head.
"Did you kill him?"
"No, someone else did. He was attacking the island."
"Well... He is a pirate." Tommy interjects.
"And why do pirates attack places?"
"Because they're evil?" Tommy responds, naively.
"Because they want treasure." Jingfei responds with a slight smile.
"That's right. Now, I wonder what Pete could have wanted so much, that's on this island...?"
"Why don't we find out? You seem to know some important people around here already, why don't we ask them?"
"Well, they will arrange a dinner for our arrival as thanks for helping them out, and hopefully we'll be able to see their king there."
"Is everything going well sir David?" Crassus yells from down on the docks.
"Oh right..." He whispers to himself.
"Yeah! We'll be right down!"
"You should go introduce yourselves, I'll take care of this." David says before grabbing the chest and moving towards the cells.
"Who is this guy?" Jingfei asks.
"He's like a general or something... A noble? Anyways..."
"A noble huh..." Jingfei says to herself, her smile growing a bit wider before she composes herself.
"Well boys! Here is the plan..."Jingfei talks to the crew while David walks over to the cells.
He puts the chest on a cupboard opposite them. He looks over to them with a blank expression, staring where Urouge used to be held.
'I wonder if he knew something else about this chest...'
[Highly unlikely.] The voice responds.
He looks back over at the chest, contemplating the fear he had felt before when it was tossed on the ground. He moves his hand over and starts circulating the force.
"!!!"
His eyes shoot open and goosebumps cover his body. He pulls his hand back and dons a cheeky smile.
"Fine. I'll leave you be for now..." He says before going back to the others.
They walk around the downtown area, Crassus giving recommendations for restaurants and such. Jingfei and Crassus are mostly the ones talking, taking bits of information from each other, trying to figure each other out.
"Well, It's been a nice chat but I really must be off." Crassus says with a smile
"Oh, what a shame. I hope we'll be seeing you at the dinner party once again mister Crassus." Jingfei responds with a smile.
"Of course miss Jing!" Crassus says, smile still present.
*Yawn!*
David yawns like a tired lion causing the group to look over to him.
"Yeah, cool. I'm feeling a bit hungry, you guys wanna grab something to eat?" David says, looking at Jing and Tommy. Jingfei looks at him with an annoyed smile.
"Yeah, I'm hungry." Tommy responds.
"Well, what are we waiting for then? Bye Crass! See you tomorrow!"
"Of course David, goodbye!" Crassus responds before squatting down and looking at Tommy.
"Goodbye little Tom." He says with a smile.
"Goodbye sir." Tommy responds stoically, metaphorically tipping his fedora.
'I taught him well.' Jingfei thinks to herself.
After saying their goodbyes the group have dinner together before walking back to the ship. At the ship the crew is taking it easy, waiting for orders.
After getting back David and Jing walk into the captains quarters to have a chat.
David walks over to his desk and sits down while Jingfei stands with her back against the wall, next to the door.
"They seem too powerful for paradise. There is something fishy going on here." Jingfei says as soon as David sits down.
"There was no mention in the original story about this kingdom."
"It certainly is strange... You think it's part of the game?" David asks.
"...I don't know. We'll have to see what happens at the dinner."
{There is the fact that there was another contestant here too.} Jingfei's voice cuts in.
[That could be indicative.]
"Hmm..."
"So, what should we do with them?" Jingfei asks.
"...?" David looks over to Jingfei with a questioning look.
"Do with them?"
"Yeah. Like... you know?" She chuckles and gives him a nervous smile.
David furrows his brows.
"We won't be doing anything with them." David responds.
"What!?"
"Aren't you curious what's going on? They could have treasure!"
"So we're going to go in there and kill them for it!?" David slams his fist down on the desk.
"???" Jingfei looks at David with an absolutely befuddled look. He mumbles something under his breath.
"Are you okay in there?" Jingfei says, knocking on David's forehead.
David grabs Jing's arm. Jingfei looks David right in the eye.
"Don't you give me some speech about how righteous you are. We're both murderers. Don't pretend like you're anything else."
"!!!"
David's eyes shoot open at the words. His face turns into a mesh of fury and he throws away her arm. Jingfei frowns at the gesture, her anger building as well. He gets up and walks over to the door that leads outside.
"If we're going to kill them just to take their treasure, how are we any better than a pirate, or the guy who brought us here in the first place."
Jingfei grits her teeth and looks down towards the ground.
"You can only say that cuz' you're so damn strong..."
"!?"
"You think anyone can just go around and try to be a hero!?" She shouts at David.
"You can try all you want, but I'm gonna win this thing... Even if I have to kill you." She says looking David in the eye.
David's face darkens. She walks up to him.
"So you're leaving?" He says coldly.
"You're damn right! I'm not dying because an idiot wants to kill himself!"
"...Then you're free to go."
He opens the door leading to the deck. She stomps out.
"So that's it huh!? Good luck doing anything without me then... David!"
He closes the door behind him and sits down at his desk in silence.
"..." His face twists in anger.
*Smash!*
He punches the desk with all his strength, reducing it to rubble.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
An African man stands at the top of a mast on one foot looking through a telescope. He is looking at an island, or more specifically a castle on that island. A pyramid-like castle made of stone, covered in vines and moss, as if it simply grew out of the ground. Torches stand at the edges of it, illuminating the way as people walk on it's roof. He concentrates his eyes and his irises turn blue as his sight gets smoother and clearer.
*Chatter*
The sounds of people talking below reaches his ears.
*Chatter*
'Goddamn monkeys...'
"Quiet!" He commands.
The chatter below quickly disappears and he goes back to looking. He sees some sort of tiny, rabbit-like man, and a humongous, elephant-like man, sitting on the edge of the castle, their feet dangling. They seem to be talking about something.
He packs up the telescope and puts it in his pouch, hanging on his side. He then takes a notebook and a pen out if his pockets.
'Elephant... Rabbit.'
After writing the two things down he jumps off the mast onto the deck.
*Stomp!*
"..."
As he lands the men on the deck look over at him.
"What are you waiting for! Party isn't over yet!" He says to the men, donning a radiant smile.
"Hooray!" The men cheer before going back to what they were doing previously.
The smile persist until he throws open the doors to the captains quarters.
"Mmmph! Mmmmmph..."
He looks over to the source of the sound and sees naked woman tied by her hands and feet up against the wall. A blind covers her eyes and a bloody sock is forcibly shoved into her mouth and covered by duct tape.
Her body shows bruising at various places and the wood floor beneath her is covered in a mix of blood, piss and feces. A few darts lay on the floor, bloodied, while others are stuck into her body at various places, at various angles. some look like they're well and truly stuck while others dangle painfully from her skin.
Another mans body lies in the corner of the room, blood still slowly leaking out of his crotch and throat.
*Fling!*
Another dart flies through the air.
"MMMMPH!"
The woman lets out a shrill cry before breathing harshly through her gag.
*Pant!*
*Pant!*
The man looks over to the boy who threw the dart with a blank expression.
"Ha! You see that?" A young boy, not older than 16 exclaims in joy.
(Adam Martes) (Human)
"Nice shot!" An older man standing a bit farther away says to the boy.
(Josue Lemaître) (Human)
"I got her right in the navel dude!" Adam responds.
A woman sitting down at a small conference table made out of wood planks frowns at the display while a tired looking, old man, also sitting down looks over to the man who just entered the room.
(Maria Svartberg)
(William Kampiles)
William's gaze draws their eyes over to the man who just entered the room.
"Did it go well? Anything new?" Maria asks.
"No, Nothing new, but before we get to this..." The man points to the woman strung up on the wall.
"...Get that thing out of here."
The man who was talking with the boy nods and moves over towards the woman.
"Not you."
The man stops.
"You." The man says looking at the boy.
"W-What! Come on man!"
"Don't play with me." The man says with a frown, causing the boy to take a step back.
"Fine then." The boy responds with a frown, untying the woman from the wall and throwing her over his shoulder.
"Mmmmph! MMmmph!" The woman tries to struggle but with her hands and feet bound together she can only wriggle helplessly. The boy picks up the dead man's body as well and walks out of the room.
"MMph!"
The woman tries to struggle but is helpless.
*Snicker*
The men standing on the deck look over to her and laugh.
'Annoying...'
The boy throws the woman to the floor on the edge of the deck, her back roughly hitting the wood behind it.
"Fucking bitch!"
*Thud!*
*Thunk!*
*Smack!*
The boy starts punching the woman in the face wildly, being careful not to punch too hard. The woman tries to move away from the boy but her back is against the wall. annoyed with her struggling the boy grabs her throat with his left hand and keeps punching with his right. Her blind is knocked off during the scuffle.
After a while the woman stops struggling, not knowing whether she is conscious or not. She opens her swollen eyes and to her amazement, is able to see something else than darkness. She is barely able to make out the man that caused her all of this pain. Her hate boils over and she spits towards the boy.
The boy looks down at the glob of blood on the ground.
"Hehehe..." He laughs to himself, enjoying her torment to the fullest.
The boys other hand moves towards the woman's neck, lifting her up with both hands into the air... Before throwing her down to the waters below.
*Splash!*
The cold water touching her skin shocks her back to consciousness. Her hate is overwhelmed by fear as she once again tries to struggle for her life. She flops her body around in panic, knowing that she will die, but desperately fighting for any way out, But her tired, beaten body, tied and played with, does not hold the strength to allow her to draw breath.
The air in her lungs is slowly emptied and starts filling with water. Her panic grows, the pain causing her eyes to swing wide open like a dead fish. She sees the corpse of the man who was thrown down after her but she doesn't register it in her panic.
As time moves on she slowly loses the feeling of panic and pain and a sort of otherworldly calm and resignation overwhelms her senses. The currents move her body in the direction of the corpse that is going down with her.
She looks at the man, being brought back to the past, Their first kiss, their marriage, his parents, Her parents. Their children. As they're sinking she uses the last of her strength to move her head over to the mans neck. She rests her head on it and closes her eyes.
She imagines them laying in bed together. He's sleeping, but she is still awake, she gives him a careful kiss on the neck before looking out through the window. She sees the moon, obscured by black clouds, shining solemnly.
They sink.
*Sigh...*
Adam sighs, having lost his toy and moves back towards the meeting room.
'Ah well.' He shrugs his shoulders and steps into the room.
"Tomorrow, after the sun sets." The African man says, having put his feet comfortably on the conference table.
As he sees the boy walking in he takes his feet off the table.
"You hear?" He says, looking over at the boy.
"Yeah I heard." Adam responds.
The African man gets up and walks over to the boy.
"Good." The man says with blank expression.
*Smack!*
The African man smacks Adam in the face. The boy falls over, blood leaking from his mouth.
"Now clean up your shit."
The man walks out of the room with a smile once again, riling up the men for the coming day.
The boy looks up at the mans back with anger in his eyes before getting a mop from his inventory.
