Jason had quickly logged off to ask the internet questions about math. After getting the answer from a kind stranger he logged back in. He shouted the answer and a celebratory noise went off
The large door slowly opened and another large corridor was revealed in front of Jason's eye. Jason was about to log off again out of sheer exhaustion and depression. Just seeing the dark corridor made him want to cry.
[congratulations you have conquered the first floor]
{+1 intelligence]
[would you like to continue, or return to the library?]
"oh thank God, the library please."
[teleporting to the library.]
Jason blinked and at the moment he closed his eyes and reopened them he was already in the library. He was teleported to the door that he had used to enter the first floor. Waves of relief and happiness washed over him, he had finally gotten out of the dark dreary floor. It was different from the trial of wisdom's corridor even though they were both dark and didn't allow you to use your eyes, the wisdom trial allowed Jason to think and it had a comforting aura like it was allowing you to explore your mind.
The intelligence trial, on the other hand, was always hinting of something lurking in wait on the next corner making Jason really tense and alert the entire time. It was like comparing the comfortable darkness in your comfortable bedroom to a nightmarish security job with giant robot monsters trying to kill you.
Jason was weighing the benefits and negatives of continuing the trial. On one hand, it would get him intelligence stat points. But was it worth it? Jason looked around the library, here he could get more stat points than the trial itself.
After a bit of thinking, Jason looked at the door to the intelligence trial first floor and swore that he would one day return with a night vision skill. He then left the tower and started heading for the blue barracks.
With plenty of time to himself on the way back. Jason started to review everything he had gained from the trial. He had gotten a crap ton of information. But he didn't know everything, it looks like Boops had absorbed most of the knowledge and could but it into Jason's head whenever Jason requested it. Unfortunately, Boops was still looking through the information and sorting everything out, so it would take a while for that to be able to happen.
Jason looked up at the sky, it was slowly setting. The sky started to turn light red and the sun slowly dipped behind the mountains in the distance. It was getting late Jason needed to hurry. Well, actually he would have plenty of time if he ran. Giving his legs a little stretch and a small warm-up Jason started Jogging across the field. In order to get back to the barracks needed to cross a lot of ground, it included several fields and hills.
Jason remembered multiple times how Charlie reminded him of how to get home. All that he needed to do was to follow the path, Charlie even told Jason how if he was lost to look at the setting sun and put it on his back and he should be able to find the barracks.
Jason kept on comfortable jogging toward the barracks, he was just enjoying the breeze as he jogged through a field of grass. He turned to the sun to check his direction again only to notice something really bad. The sun was setting at a rapid pace, much faster then Jason had anticipated.
Jason started to get worried he needed to hurry so he picked his pace and ran straight through the field instead of the main path creating a small path in the field.
The sun was setting at a pace much faster then Jason had expected it was almost abnormal, well it might be a setting in the game. Jason saw the sunset start to fade out. Jason started sprinting, it was now a race against the sun itself. Jason crossed a field and sprinted up and down a hill. He was about to run up the next hill when the sun completely set. It just disappeared and along with it the rest of the light Jason was able to use.
"well frick, I might be lost"
Jason started to think about the general direction he should go. He was off the main path and the sun had already set. Jason asked Boops a question
"Hey Boops, in what direction does the sunset again?"
'umm east'
"and I'm hoping you have a compass"
'yeah, I even have a map, but more importantly somethings approaching you,'
"Any ideas?"
'get the high ground'
"loved that movie"
'HURRY UP'
Jason started sprinting up the hill with somebody or something chasing him. Jason didn't know what it was and he didn't want to know. If he struggled with goblins in the forest a few days earlier he wasn't excited to see what was chasing him. Eventually, he reached the top and climbed the tree that was confidently placed on the top of the hill. He quickly climbed to the highest branch of the tree and tried his best to lie down and hide. He probably should have run but this was the first thing that came to his mind.
Jason was lying face down on a tree branch with the cold wind hitting his back mercilessly. The thing that was chasing him had arrived at the top of the hill. With Boop's map, he was able to multiple of them creeping closer and closer. One of them started to pace around Jason's tree but with the giant branch in Jason's face, he couldn't see what it was. With Jason's ears that had become more sensitive thanks to the first floor of the trial, he could hear heavy panting and a noise that sounded almost mechanical.
Jason didn't want to believe it, but he might have to think that the "thing" might be the worst and most horrible thing he knew.
