Yang Yi only had around two hundred grand, an amount that was insufficient to get Kate the protection she needed. He could only hope that John and Jenny saved enough money to save their daughter's life.
He really objected to the idea of asking a woman for money, though. Yang Yi was only asking Kate for money to be used for her protection, but he still had mixed feelings about it. There was the possibility that she didn't have enough after all.
Yang Yi knocked on the door nervously unable to get rid of the thoughts running through his mind. He opened the door and saw Kate, who was looking just as nervous as he was feeling.
"Do you have any money?" Yang Yi asked.
"Money? Yeah, probably quite a lot," Kate replied calmly, but seeing that Yang Yi wasn't willing to say anything else after asking, her tone quickly became agitated, "Why? Do you need money?"
Yang Yi looked at Kate. Uncertain of where to start, he tried his best to give her a summary of the discussion he had with Danny, "Things are getting… complicated. No, nevermind, it's pretty simple actually. The people here are willing to protect me because they owed my father a favor. It's the same reason why your father took me on as a spy. Anyway, they are not willing to protect you."
"Okay then…"
Before Kate could even speak or process what she was being told, Yang Yi continued, "I'm not done yet. Danny said they can protect you as well, but you have to pay them a million pounds every year. If you pay them, they can provide an absolute guarantee of your safety."
Yang Yi walked towards the curtain and took a quick glance outside, "Danny figured out who killed everyone. I know now, too. Those hitmen who came after us are called the Destroyers and they were hired by the Marthall Family. The Marthalls are willing to stop pursuing us, but the Destroyers are outside this building, waiting to kill us this very moment. The moment we leave this building… they will definitely end us."
"I have to survive no matter how much it costs," said Kate determinedly. She frowned after a moment, "I don't know how much my mother left though…"
"I'll give you everything I've got. Here take it, it's two hundred thousand," Yang Yi said as he handed over his bank card. However, Kate shook her head.
"Thank you, but I don't think that's necessary," she said as she gently pushed away Yang Yi's hand. "My mother should've saved quite a lot."
After she spoke, she sat up and whispered something in Yang Yi's ear. When she was done she sat back on the bed and explained, "I just told you the password to my bank card. It's in my pocket now. Can you help me look up how much there is on it? My father probably left quite a lot, too, but exactly how much there is and how to access the money is beyond my knowledge."
"I'll just check the bank card first then. I'll do it now," said Yang Yi as he took the card out of Kate's pocket. But just before he was about to leave, Kate grabbed his sleeve. Her voice softened in embarrassment, "Don't go yet... I need to use the toilet..."
After Kate was done, Yang Yi walked back to the room where Danny was waiting. Seeing that Danny wasn't busy, Yang Yi quickly pulled out Kate's card to discuss the topic from before.
"I've got a card here, but I don't know how much is in the account."
Danny smiled politely and said, "There's a reception desk with an ATM downstairs. Ah Jiang, Xiao Fung, take him there. Be careful, the counter is outside."
The man named Ah-Jiang stood up and hid a gun in his jacket sleeve. The other man, Xiao-Fung, took out an MP7 assault rifle and concealed it inside his jacket.
Like a child ecstatic to see a new toy, Yang Yi scratched his cheek, "Can you give me a gun?"
"You know how to use one?"
"Yeah?" Yang Yi responded in a weird voice.
"You've used one before?"
"I did. I shot someone last night."
Danny nodded in approval, then took out a gun and passed it to Yang Yi. It wasn't a big gun, but the weight was something Yang Yi needed to become comfortable with. He struggled slightly to hold the pistol with one arm, he squeezed the safety lock and felt more than heard a clanking sound, then in an almost casual manner, he placed his finger on the trigger.
"What kind of model is this?" Yang Yi inquired, but in an instant, he found himself constrained by Danny's subordinates. One snatched the gun out of his hand, the other one continued to hold Yang Yi's arm behind his back in a locking hold.
Yang Yi realized immediately that he'd made a mistake just now, and a very dumb one at that. He wasn't sure what it was, though. Danny's gaze turned sharp with enmity. He asked angrily, "You said you know how to use a gun?"
"Yeah…"
"And you've got a golden finger on? You had a loaded gun with the safety lock off and you put a finger on the trigger and pointed it at me. Do you want to kill me?
"What? Huh?"
After seeing that Yang Yi was clearly clueless about what he had did, Danny said with a disgusted look on his face, "This is an HK p7 pistol, not something an amateur like you should use. Actually, you know what? You don't deserve to use a gun at all. Get out of my sight now."
Still confused about what happened, Yang Yi headed outside. However, instead of walking, he was dragged by Danny's subordinates towards the exit. Once they reached the hallway, Yang Yi looked towards the two men who released him.
He then scratched his head in confusion, "I wasn't supposed to do that? You know, put my finger on the trigger?"
While Ah Jiang, one of the two men accompanying Yang Yi, shook his head in silence, Xiao Fung, the other man, started laughing.
"No shit!" Xiao Fung responded while trying to suppress his laughter. "The only reason to point a gun at someone is when you're shooting them or threatening to shoot them. Also, never put your finger on a trigger if you're not intending to shoot. Come on, it's the basics. You shouldn't do that even if the gun isn't loaded."
"Oh okay. I'll remember from now on," Yang Yi said bluntly.
The three then walked towards the elevator. Ah Jiang then commanded in a slightly lowered voice, "Be quiet now and stay on guard."
"It's fine, we're covering each other's back. They wouldn't dare."
"Still. Do what I say," Ah Jiang warned his younger colleague before ordering Yang Yi as the elevator door opened, "Go."
With the two guards on his left and right side, Yang Yi walked towards the ATM that wasn't far from them. He entered the password and was glad to see the amount that was in the account. It was a total sum of one million, three hundred and fifty thousand pounds. He wasn't exactly surprised, though. After all, Jenny did receive a hundred thousand just for the last job.
"Alright, let's go back now."
Apart from the incident with Danny, Yang Yi was glad that nothing unexpected or dangerous happened when he tried to check Kate's card. As they returned to the hotel, he jogged upstairs towards Kate's room. Without even knocking on the door, Yang Yi hurried inside and saw that Kate was awake.
"There's a million three hundred and fifty thousand in your account. It should suffice," Yang Yi said as he was still trying to catch a breath.
"Give them the money," Kate said without hesitation.
