章 42: EPISODE 42: Fighting normally!
Day has finally arrived. I have made reservations for my battle against Ms. Avery. A rich businesswoman who specializes in normal type Pokemons. After helping Kangaskhan, the parent Pokemon, and after exploring the safari zone in Macropolis city, I can officially have my gym battle. But first things first! Its breakfast time.
Another ordinary day, another ordinary meal. We had ramen for breakfast cooked by the one and only, Camellia. It was spicy, but I love spicy food and I can tolerate spicy food.
Breakfast is accomplished and I helped out with chores and made my bed. It was time to go to the Orb tower, the site of my second gym badge! The gym is at the peak of the tower, or the Orb dome. As we walked closer to the tower, I got anxious, I'm battling the top eight most strongest gym leader in the world! But with my buddy Riolu, we're undefeatable.
"You got to watch out Kalem, normal type Pokemons can learn a variety of moves," Glade warned.
"Hopefully I'll defeat Ms. Avery, all my Pokemons are weak against it," I explained.
"Then if that's the case, I suggest that you defeat Avery with speed," Camellia advised.
"Speed?" I queried as things were getting a little blurry.
"Yeah, since Avery has a variety of Pokemon which knows a variety of moves, then the only way to defeat attack is speed or defense," Camellia explained as we got closer to the tower.
"Oh now I understand, Scyther has a high speed but low defense, and Riolu has a high attack but low defense as well, but Zorua has an amazing range of defense and speed!" I evaluated.
"I guess that battle with the connoisseurs made you even smarter." Zhery complemented.
"Just remember, always keep your eyes open, a lot of surprises dwell in normal type Pokemons," Glade advised as we entered the tower.
As we stepped into the tower an automated voice spoke. "Welcome to the Orb tower." This was one of Macropolis' great technology.
We went forward to the cashier to inform Ms. Avery of my challenge.
"Good morning Kalem, welcome to the orb tower. Will you be taking your gym battle with Ms. Avery?" the cashier lady asked.
"Yup! I've been waiting long and hard for this day." I beamed with determination.
"If that's so, please write your name and your signature on this paper." the cashier lady instructed.
I wrote my name and followed the instructions. As I wrote my name, I could feel my heart pounding. I guess I'm still not used to battling a gym leader.
"Thank you Kalem, may I ask if this is your first time battling a gym leader?"
"Nope, I won against Admiral Brooke back in Norva city," I explained.
"Alright then, you're all set to go! Please enter the elevator with your friends, once you reach the top floor, you and your friends will be separated, the left door is for the challenger, and the right door is for the audience. The audience will watch from a separated room through the use of a big screen." the cashier lady explained.
"Wait, does that mean, Kalem and Ms. Avery will be the only ones in the dome?" Glade queried.
"Yes, including the commentator and the referee. The audience will watch in a separate room, in the room, they can hear the challenger, the gym leader, the commentator, and the referee. But the gym leader, challenger, commentator, and referee, will not be hearing your cheers. This is to avoid distraction." the cashier lady answered.
"Alright, everything is clear to me," I uttered as we went inside the elevator.
Before I parted ways with my friends they wished me good luck. "Focus on your battle Kalem, you may not hear us cheer but we'll definitely cheer you on!" Camellia smiled.
Me and my friends got separated, and I was ready but anxious to battle Avery. I tried to keep my self-confidence up, once you start believing in yourself, the magic starts to happen.
Like they say, optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence. "Riolu, let's make my parents and our friends proud," I uttered softly as we entered the dome.
I was surprised. The dome had marble floorings with two bright chandeliers, the circular dome was color white. From that point, I knew that this isn't just a typical gym battle. The commentator was an old rich man just like Mr. Copper, the referee was a businessman. Ms. Avery, was sitting on a white royal chair. There was a device that allows the crowd to hear what's going on. There was a camera that allows the crowd to see what's going on.
"Goodmorning Kalem, I've been expecting you." Ms. Avery uttered.
"I'm ready Ms. Avery! I'm ready to challenge you."
"If that's so, then let this match begin." Ms. Avery uttered as she stood up from her chair.
"The battle between Ms. Avery and the challenger Kalem is about to begin!" The referee announced as the crowd from the separate room began to cheer.
"Each trainer will only use three Pokemons, the first trainer to knock out all the Pokemons of the foe wins." the referee announced.
"If the challenger, specifically Kalem, wins the gym battle, he shall be given the simple badge as a sign of victory over Macropolis city!" the commentator explained.
"Substitution is allowed, please choose your first Pokemon!" the referee instructed.
"You're first Scyther!" I sent out Scyther as I will be using him for my first round.
"So Kalem has chosen speed? Then I choose speed as well." Ms. Avery uttered in her mind.
"Zangoose! Let's go." Ms. Avery sent out Zangoose!
"Let's start this match in three! two! one! Battle Begin!" the referee proclaimed.
"Irys, feed us some info please about Zangoose," Zhery asked.
"Sure no problem Zhery, [Zangoose! The cat ferret Pokemon! A normal type. ZANGOOSE usually stays on all fours, but when angered, it gets up on its hind legs and extends its claws. This POKéMON shares a bitter rivalry with SEVIPER that dates back over generations.]" Irys explained.
"So, Avery chose speed over speed," Glade uttered to his mind.
"Scyther use sword dance!"
"Zangoose use metal claw!"

"Zangoose hits Scyther with its powerful metal claw!" the commentator announced.
"Scyther use X-Scissors!"
"Zangoose dodge it then use night slash!"
..
"Amazing! Zangoose outran Scyther's speed! Making Scyther unable to use X-Scissors!" the commentator explained.
"Zangoos is fast! This will be a hard one for Kalem." Camellia observed.
"Oh no! Scyther use double team!"
"Zangoose use flame thrower on the multiple copies!"

.....
"Scyther's evasiveness rose, but Zangoose's speed was able to destroy the multiple copies of Scyther and was able to hit the real Scyther!" the commentator announced as the people from the separate room began to cheer for Avery. "This is bad, fire type moves are strong against bug type!" Zhery observed.
"Scyther no!" I shouted as Scyther blasts off and was hit with a powerful flame thrower.
"That move was unexpected, since Zangoose is a normal type Pokemon, it might be hiding more powerful moves that are weak to bug types," I uttered softly in my mind.
"Scyther! Use Wing attack!"
"Zangoose dodge then use close combat!"

"Such a spectacular show from Avery! Zangoose was able to dodge wing attack and used close combat on Scyther!" the commentator announced.
"Close combat, a fighting type moves which sends out multiple punches to the foe... Scyther is doomed." Glade uttered softly.
"Oh, no Scyther! Can you still battle!"
"Yes I can!" Scyther uttered as he stood up.
"Scyther use double team!"
"Zangoose use flame thrower again!"

"Now tell all your copies to run around Zangoose then use X-Scissors!"

"Such a brilliant idea coming from Kalem, Zangoose wasn't able to keep up with Scyther's double team circling it. In return, Scyther used a hard X-Scissor!" The commentator announced as the cheer from the crowd got louder.
"Zangoose! No!"
"Scyther use X-Scissors once more before Zangoose gets up!"

"Zangoose was unable to stand up in time and was hit by Scyther's X-Scissor!" the commentator announced.
"That's going to be a pain in the neck for Zangoose, Scyther used Sword dance in the first move, that means Scyther's attack got boosted," Zhery explained as she observed the battle.
"Scyther finish Zangoose with X-Scissor!"
"Zangoose dodge then use flamethrower!"
"Amazing! Zangoose was able to dodge that X-Scissor and used flame thrower on Kalem's Scyther!" the commentator announced as the crowd shouted louder for Avery.
"Scyther is unable to battle! The first match goes to Zangoose and Avery!" the referee announced.
The crowd shouted for Avery!
"Oh no, it's two against three now!" Camellia started to worry for me.
"Its ok Camellia, Kalem still has two Pokemon, and those two Pokemons are pretty strong!" Zhery cheered.
"Alright Scyther, you deserve a good rest," I called back Scyther to his Pokeball.
"Challenger Kalem! Please choose your second Pokemon for your second match against Ms. Avery and Zangoose!" The referee instructed.
"Alright Buddy! Let's win this for Scyther!" I called Riolu to enter the battle stage as my second Pokemon. I started to worry. Could Ms. Avery be that powerful? Will I lose this gym battle?
"So you're going to use your Riolu eigh?" Ms. Avery uttered softly.
"Yup, me and Riolu are stronger together than we are apart!" I smiled with determination.
"We'll see about that." Ms. Avery uttered.
"The second match of Ms. Avery and the challenger Kalem is about to begin! battle continue!" The referee proclaimed.
"Riolu use force palm!"
"Zangoose! Dodge that force palm then use close combat!"
"Riolu! Use force palm behind you! Zangoose is behind you!"

"Astounding! Riolu was aware of Zangoose! Riolu's speed was amazing as well as it hits Zangoose with force palm!" The commentator announced as the crowd began to cheer for Riolu and me.
"Zangoose! Hurry up and stand!"
"Riolu use quick attack on Zangoose before it stands up!" I ordered.

:ZANG??????
"Zangoose was hit with a Quick attack! Quick attack pushed Zangoose towards the wall!" the commentator announced as the crowd cheered louder than any before!
"Zangoose is unable to battle! The winner of the second match goes to Kalem and Riolu!" the referee proclaimed.
"Such a fast and adorable Riolu! It's shocking, no one has ever defeated Zangoose easily like that." Avery complemented.
"Thanks Avery! I and Riolu help each other when it comes to gym battles like this." I smiled with determination.
"You can do it Kalem!" Camellia cheered.
"Camellia is right!" Glade agreed as my friends cheered from the separated room.
"Ms. Avery, please choose your second Pokemon to use against Riolu and Kalem!" the referee instructed.
"Alright then! Ursaring its showtime!" Ursaring has been sent out of its Pokeball by Avery.
"Irys, what's an Ursaring?" Glade asked.
"Lead the data and analyzation to me! [Ursaring! The Hibernator Pokemon! A normal type. In the forests inhabited by URSARING, it is said that there are many streams and towering trees where they gather food. This POKéMON walks through its forest gathering food every day.]" Irys the Pokedex explained.
"Ursaring looks like a bear!" I uttered into my mind.
"Let's start the third match between Avery and Kalem! Battle continue!" the referee proclaimed.
"Alright Ursaring! Use Hammer's arm!"
Ursaring's arm began to glow as it was about hit Riolu.
"Riolu use quick attack on Ursaring's torso!"

"And Ursaring fell down as Riolu used quick attack on Ursaring's torso canceling the Hammer arm which was about to hit Riolu!" the commentator announced as the crowd got wild!
"Now Riolu use force palm!"
"Quick! Ursaring use Ice punch!" Ursaring's arm was surrounded by a mist of ice as it hits Riolu.

"Ursaring hits Riolu hard with that Ice punch!" the commentator explained.
"Riolu, are you alright?"
"Yeah Kalem! The battle's just about to get even more intense."
"If you're ready, then use metal claw!"
"Ursaring! Intercept with thunder punch!"

...
"Riolu got blasted because of that thunder punch! Oh wait? It looks like Riolu got paralyzed." the commentator announced! The crowd's attention went back to Avery.
"Paralyzed? What does that do?" Camellia wondered.
"Paralyze makes Riolu slower, there is also a possibility that Riolu wouldn't be able to use a move due to Paralysis," Glade explained.
"Riolu! No!"
Riolu forced itself to stand up. He didn't mind the paralysis that was circling his body.
"Kalem, command me an attack!" Riolu pleaded as it glared at Ursaring.
"Alright then! Riolu use force palm!"
"Heh? Ursaring use Hammer arm."

Riolu tried to run, he forced himself to run. I could see the pain in Riolu's eyes as he cried. But all that was in his mind was, I can do it! I must do it!
"Riolu, are you sure you're fine?" I queried worryingly.
"I am! Rr...rr... I am!" Riolu shouted with determination.

"Riolu was too slow and was blasted by hammer arm!" The commentator explained.
Riolu was hit in the wall. But it walked back to the stage. A sweat fell off his face as he glared at Ursaring.
"Ursaring use hammer arm one more time!"
"Riolu does.... dodge it!"
.....
.....
....
...
"Riolu was about to get hit, but still, his arms turned red as he grabbed Ursaring's arm and threw him up to the sky! Ms. Avery was in awe.

:URSAAAA!
"Did Riolu just learn Seismic toss!?" The commentator was also in awe as the attention of the crowd splits into two.
"I'm surprised Kalem! Riolu is determined to win, but will he stand against my Ursaring" Avery complemented.
"Good work Riolu, seismic toss is awesome!" I complimented.
"Hey Glade, what's seismic toss?" Zhery queried. "Seismic toss, its a fighting type move which grabs the arm or any part of the foe then throws the foe into mid-air," Glade explained.
"The battle is getting intense!" the commentator announced.
"Ursaring use thunder punch!"
"Riolu use seismic toss!"

"What's this? Riolu's paralysis canceled the move as Ursaring used thunder punch!" the commentator explained as the crowd focused on Avery.
"Riolu is unable to battle! The third match goes to Avery!"
Riolu walked back to his sit looking sad and disappointed. "Don't feel down Riolu! The important thing is that you did your best." I cheered Riolu as he smiled.
"Oh no... Kalem has one Pokemon left, this is making me worried." Camellia exclaimed.
"Challenger! Please send out your last Pokemon!" the referee instructed.
"I'm counting on you Zorua!" I called Zorua to the battlegrounds.
Zorua is my last Pokemon, no way am I going to lose! I must win this battle.
"Let the third match begin!" the referee announced.
"Ursaring use hammer arm!"
"Zorua use pursuit!"

"Incredible speed! Zorua knocks Ursaring to the floor!" The commentator announced.
"Zorua now uses tackle!"
"Ursaring get up quickly!" Ms. Avery commanded.

"Ursaring is unable to battle! The winner of the third match goes to Riolu and Kalem!" The referee announced.
"It's even now! Hopefully Kalem will win." Zhery observed as both sides have one Pokemon left.
"I'm counting on you Blissey!" Ms. Avery' last Pokemon is a Blissey.
"What kind of Pokemon is a Blissey?" Zhery asked.
"Lead the info to me! [Blissey! The happiness Pokemon! A normal type! BLISSEY senses sadness with its fluffy coat of fur. If it does so, this POKéMON will rush over to the sad person, however far they may be, to share an egg of happiness that brings a smile to any face.]
"That cute Pokemon is Avery's last Pokemon!?" Glade was shocked.
"Zorua lets win this for Scyther and Riolu!"
"I got it Kalem! I'll do you proud!"
"The last match between Zorua and Kalem the challengers, against Ms. Avery and Blissey is about to begin. Battle continue!" The referee announced.
"Zorua use pursuit!"
"Blissey dodge it then use Seismic toss!"

"Blissey missed the Pursuit and threw Zorua with seismic toss!" the commentator announced as the crowd cheered on!
"Zorua land on Blissey then use Scratch!"
: Bliss! Blissey! The Pokemon cried.

"Blissey was hit by numerous scratches!" the commentator announced.
"Good work Zorua! Keep it up!" I complimented and cheered Zorua. Then, Zorua's paw glowed with shadows.
"Could it be!? Is Zorua learning Payback!?" The commentator guessed.
"Payback? What kind of move is that Glade?" Camellia queried.
"The user stores power, then attacks. If the user moves after the target, this attack's power will be doubled." Glade answered as he observed closely.
"Great Zorua you learned Payback!" I complimented as Blissey took a lot of damage.
"Blissey use Egg bomb!"
Zorua dodge the falling egg and use Payback!"

"Blissey was hit with Payback! Zorua's speed is amazing!" The commentator complemented as the crowd cheered for Zorua.
"Zorua use payback one more time!"
"Blissey dodge it hurry!"
....

"And Poof! Blissey was unable to dodge! Zorua is extremely fast." the commentator explained.
"Blissey is unable to battle! The winner of this gym battle is Zorua and Kalem!" The referee announced as the crowd stood up and clapped.
"We did it Zorua!" I cuddled Zorua as Zorua smiled.
"Impressive Kalem, its been a long time since I experienced such a spectacular battle! Avery came close and shook my hands.
"Thanks Ms. Avery, but it's my Pokemon who you should complement." I smiled back.
"Oh right, I almost forgot, here is the simple badge." Ms. Avery gave me the badge as I placed it on my gym case.
"And may I suggest that you go to Photia-heart city! The gym leader there is strong." Ms. Avery suggested.
"Sure thing Ms. Avery! Thanks for the badge."
"I see great potential in you, maybe one day you'll become an extraordinary Pokemon master." Ms. Avery complemented.
Me and my friends were able to meet each other again. "Congrats Kalem!" Camellia smiled as her cheeks turned pink.
"Thank you guys for your support! I really appreciate it." I smiled. "So Kalem, where are we headed to?" Zhery asked. "Phobia-heart city is up next! And I'm ready to challenge the gym leader there!" I answered.
"Well then? What are we waiting for? Photo-heart city is next!" Glade agreed as we left the city before sunset. Ms. Avery was there to greet us Bon Voyage as we continue our journey.
"If only my mom and dad could have seen me today, they would be proud," I uttered softly to mind.
"So what do you say Riolu? Ready to take on new heights?" I asked and smiled. "Of course Kalem! As long as I'm with you, I'm already happy!" Riolu smiled.
We walked ablaze the setting sun! A new city lays ahead as the journey continues!
