章 16: The truth (part 2)

"I'm ready to tell you, Jimin. About my past." I said, crying. He held my shoulders and put his hand on my chin and lifted my face. "Y/n. Are you sure?? You can take your time." He said, looking into my eyes. "I'm sure, Jimin. I'm ready." We both walked a bit and sat down on a rock, which was like a chair and we faced each other.

Then I started saying. "5 years back,..

*flashback

5 years back, when I was 18 years, I returned to Busan, to visit my family. I left to Seoul, when I was 17. I had come during my birthday, to celebrate with my parents. Only a week was there for my birthday. We spent a lot of time together. We were so happy.

It was the day before my birthday. "Y/n! Can you come down for a minute." My dad called me. I went down and saw my dad seated with my mom.

"What is it, abeoji?" I asked. "My dear, come sit here." He said pointing towards the empty seat, next to him.

I went and sat there. My parents were giggling. I couldn't understand why.

"Eomma, abeoji. What is it? Why are you laughing at me?" I asked, confused.

"Y/n, my dear child. We have something special for you." My mom said. I got too excited and asked,"Ehat is it?" My dad handed over me a slip. "What is this, abeoji?" I asked. "Open and see!" He said.

I opened and saw. To my surprise, it was tickets to the arcade centre, which I loved the most at Busan. I had asked my parents before, but they couldn't afford that much money and I left it. I couldn't believe they had done this for me. "Eomma, abeoji. Thanks a lot. I love you guys so much. This is the best birthday gift. Thank you so much, Abeoji!" I said, jumping here and there. I was so excited.

I couldn't sleep the whole night, thinking about it.

*the next morning

I woke up, when it struck me, I'll be at the arcade today. I was over excited. I took as shower, changed and headed downstairs. My parents were surprised to see me early. They both came near me and said,"Happy birthday, y/n!" "Thank you, eomma, abeoji." I said. "Okay. Can we go now?" I asked excitedly. "Sure." My dad said. We left the house and we reached the arcade centre.

We had crossed the roads, then it suddenly struck me, I had forgotten the ticket at the car. "Eomma, abeoji. I think I forgot the ticket at the car. I'll go get it." "Okay, be careful, dear." My dad said and handed the keys to me. I went and got the ticket. While coming back, the ticket had flew away from my hand. I didn't realise, I was at the middle of the road and started to catch it. My father noticed me and shouted," Y/N-AHHH!" I heard him shout and saw him approaching me with my mom behind him. I turned and saw I was at the middle, while a truck was coming in my direction. My dad hurriedly came running, and pushed me away. I closed my eyes and hit my hand at the electric post there. I opened my eyes and saw. My parents.... they were. My parents got hit by the truck. I couldn't believe.

I couldn't move my right arm, as I got hit. "SOMEONE CALL THE AMBULANCE. PLEASE! SOMEONE CALL THE AMBULANCE!" I yelled, but no one responded. "Miss, I have called the ambulance. They'll be here any minute." A guy said, coming forward. "Thanks you so much. Thank you." I cried. Tears were flowing continuously. The ambulance came.

We reached the hospital. They took my parents to the emergency room. While I was at the x-ray room, to see if anything happened to my hand. I ended up having a fracture. The doctor said not to do any work.

I came out and waited for any reply about my parents. A nurse came out and asked,"Any relative of Mr. and Mrs. Kim?" I hurriedly went and said,"yes,me! I'm their daughter. W-what happened? Is everything fine?" I asked, eagerly. The nurse replied,"I'm sorry to say, your father had died on the spot and your mother is trying." She said and left. I started crying even more. I couldn't believe. I became weak. I tried sitting on the bench, but fell down. I felt someone's hand on me. "Hey. Are you alright?" He asked and made me sit at the bench. He handed me water and I drank it. Then, I could see his face. He was the guy who called the ambulance.

"I heard from the doctor. I'm sorry to hear." He said and sat next to me. The nurse came again and said,"I'm sorry Miss. Your mother has also died. She tried hard, but couldn't survive. I'm sorry for your loss." "No it's not you fault. You did what you have to do and did your best. Thank you." I said and she left. I started crying even more, that my eyes were swollen.

The guy consoled me. I hugged him. I didn't have any sibling. I was their one and only child and I only had them. "I'm sorry for your loss. I don't know what to say." He said and looked at me worriedly. "I'll be fine in a day or two. And thanks a lot for your help."

I wiped my tears and told him I was fine. He handed me some money. But I refused at first. But he insisted. He was like a brother to me. I told him,"I'll be leaving to Seoul tonight. And thanks a lot." I said crying. "But what about your parents ceremony?" He asked. "I don't want to do it. I don't have the energy and courage to do it. Please can you do it for me. I can't do it." I said. "I understand. I'll do it for you. I'll do it at Seoul, so you can visit them. Please accept this at least." He asked, worried. "Okay." I said and ran off to my house. I couldn't forget the incident. That night at the airport, I couldn't sleep nor tell anyone about how I feel. Tears flowed in my eye, continuously. I reached Seoul and didn't tell Mia about it. I never told anyone about it. I didn't go to school. I told the principal my condition. She could understand. She took the responsibility for taking care of me. I didn't know how to thank her. She has done a lot for me. She gave me the courage. I didnt wanna trouble her anymore and started living on my own.

From that day, I visited their crematory everyday, especially on my birthday, cause it was the day they left me. I identified, as their names were carved on it. And the guys who I asked to bury them, his photo was there. I never met him again. I didn't know how to thank him. No one knew about it and I went to the crematory secretly. I didn't want anyone to know.

(End of flashback)

While saying, I cried more and more. "Y/n. I'm sorry, I couldn't be beside you at that time. You've gone through all this alone." Jimin said worried. "It's. it your fault. It is my fate." I said. "Shhh! Don't say that." He said, keeping his finger on my lips. "I Promise you that from now on, I'll be by your side. No matter what." He said. "Thanks a lot for understanding. And please do t tell the the others. Not even Mia. Please?" I asked him. "I won't open up until you tell them on your own." He said. I hugged him.

'But there was something else, too. Which no one knew, except me. I didn't know how to face it when I tell them. I didn't want them to worry. But how do I tell? This is not the right time. I'll tell it when it comes.' I said to myself.

"Hey, y/n. What are you thinking??" Jimin asked. "Nothing. I just relieved. Cause I've opened it up." I said hugging him. We were hugging continuously. I felt comfortable around his arms. I felt at home, when i was with him. I had never felt like this before. I never let his hug. Lying on his chest, I look at the sky. My parents, who were there at the top. "I love you, eomma, abeoji." I said and tears flowed through my eyes.
