章 6: Day 3.
Waking up still a bit sore I decided I might as well have myself a decent meal. This however is going to be a life changing experience and I'm kind of jittery about it. You see I've never killed an animal before I never went hunting or anything like that I bought all of my food at store.
I figure if I'm trapped on some god forsaken planet filled with monsters and struggling for my life there's going to be quite a few changes. I pick up my spear and walk over to the cages containing lizards and crabs. I was right about the lizards eating the few crabs with them. I prepare myself mentally and approach one of the hissing lizards.
The only thing I've had to eat for the past 2 days is coconut meat. Not gunna lie I've always hated coconut and any kind of seafood so this is a pretty crap experience so far.
I raise the spear and stab it into the cage stabbing the lizard right in the head. There's a short his of pain as the spear goes right through it's eyes killing it. It's a very uncomfortable and sad feeling to have killed an animal and I don't enjoy it.
I know for a fact this lizard is dead however the body is still twitching and jerking around impaled on my spear. I yank it out and some blood sprays on the ground. I open up the cage door and reach inside grabbing the jerking body and taking it out. Just to make sure it's 100% dead I use my axe and lop the lizards head off and it's still jerking around.
I make sure to do this over a bucket and catch all the blood. I throw the head in there too using my spear tip as it has sharp teeth and I've heard snakes can still bite people even with their heads cut off.
Next step is skinning the lizard. I've never skinned anything before. So as one would expect it didn't look too pretty. I made sure however to make it as even as I could and not poke holes in it. I cut off the little claws on each foot then gently used the knife to cut down the stomach making sure not to cut into any organs as I went. I ended up with two.

Sure enough this is good stuff. While I'm cutting at the lizard I tear out the guts and throw them into my bucket of blood and gunk. To be honest I can't tell a single organ from another inside this lizard so I don't know what to eat and what not to eat. This will be used as bait later on I suppose.
Now I've basically got a lizard with only meat on it. Next up comes the fire part.
Using some twine and a branch i fashion up a simple bow. I go over to my little campfire area and set up some small twigs and dried palm fronds I'd collected. I grab an empty coconut husk and my axe and crack it in half. This one is dried out and now I've got 2 little coconut bowls. In one I place some tinder and dried grass I'd mushed up into a kind of dust. I grab another small branch and place it into the bowl of tinder. I wrap my bow around the stick and put the other coconuts half on top of the branch using my hand to hold it there. This is so I don't hurt my hand with the spinning of the stick and can still hold it in place.
Next up comes the hard part. I start making a sawing motion with the bow and quickly increase my speed. Whoever said this shit was easy is a damn liar. I hold the other coconut half with my feet while spinning the stick. It takes a few minutes but finally I've got some smoke. Being too eager I rush to blow on it and it ends up going out before I get real fire so sadly I have to do it again.
The second try I wait til there is much more smoke in the coconut shell before gently blowing it into a flame. I pour the flaming embers into my little campfire spot and blow it into a bigger fire.
[Congratulations on your first real achievement. Making fire is what separates men from beasts. As a reward for your hard work, your Farm fire will never die.] a notification goes off in my mind nearly scaring me to death. I feel some information go off in my mind and know that the little fire I made will never die.
"That's fantastic!" I say happily.
I admire my handiwork with happiness.
I place a flat stone I had found over the fire and let it heat up before putting on chunks of lizard meat to cook.
Soon there is a sizzle of meat on stone and I'm happily flipping my lizard meat with my knife.
Today is going to be a good day.
After my lizard meat is cooked to a perfect white. I pop a little into my mouth. Tastes like chicken and could use some seasonings but hey it's not coconut.
I keep cooking and eating. I've burned quite a lot of energy the past couple of days and coconuts just aren't cutting it for me. While I'm cooking and eating I'm looking at my crafting menu. I find exactly what I'm looking for.
Sandals. It takes some twine two lizard hides and some bark. I have all of that. I'll need my knife to make it as well.
Basically you take the strip of bark and cut it into a shoe size, then you place the hide over the sandal and drill a hole into them using your knife. You can then use twine to make some primitive sandal straps. This can be done with just the bark but I wouldn't advise it as bark doesn't feel too great to walk on so the hide acts kind of like a barrier to the bark making it smoother and easier on your feet.
Of course this all happens in a speed style crafting for me. But it's great to have shoes even if they are just sandals I wouldn't want to cut my feet on some sharp rocks or something.
