*the night before Lilian's meeting*
Lex's day at the mines was awful. He walked through the dark streets though, his day was hard the night was nice. The moon shone beautifully through thin layers of clouds.
He could see in front of him easily without the need of his lantern. He decided to go the long way home to cross over a bridge.
This bridge always made him happy and calm. With the moon shinning this brightly the water underneath would reflect the image perfectly.
He wanted to see it. He needed to calm down.
As he approached the bridge, he caught sight of two figures. He could almost hear their conversation, but something told him not to go to close.
He got close enough just to hear the conversation then he hid behind the closest bush.
He crouched down, peered through the leaves of the bush. He saw two men that seemed to be arguing. One had a calm look on his face, the other he couldn't see.
The man he could see had a mustache and a beard. The glasses on his face reflected the moonlight so he couldn't see his eyes, though with this distance, Lex figure he wouldn't even be able to see them.
The other man was making wild gestures as he argued. He sounded angry, delusional. Like he had gone mad.
"What have you done to me?!" The man with his back to Lex yelled.
"I've done nothing. This was your own choice."
Now that Lex thought about it this man seemed strangely familiar.
"Yes, but you're the one who convinced me! You'd said I'd be powerful! Not seen as some freak of nature!"
"Well I didn't know how people would react," the familiar man said calmly.
"This is all your fucking fault!" The other man cursed.
"Landon, calm down."
"No! Do not tell me to calm down!" Landon's rage was visible from where Lex hid. "Where's the reward you promised me?!"
The man chuckled. "The reward is your gift, Landon. Don't you see that?"
"You little-" Landon pulled his arm back and tried to punched the other man in the face.
He was too slow. The other man had grabbed his arm, moving so that he pressed Landon against the edge of the bridge.
Slowly he pushed Landon back so that he was bent over the rail of the bridge. That wasn't a short fall, it would definitely kill him.
Landon flared around, trying to break the man's grip.
Lex could see the man's lips moves as he said something to quiet for Lex to hear. The next thing made Lex curse out loud.
Landon was pushed over the edge and fell to his death.
The man seemed to hear Lex's whispered cursed and looked directly at him. The most disturbing thing was the smile he showed just for Lex.
Lex stood from his hiding place. Took a couple steps back from the bridge, his eyes never leaving the man who stared back at him.
Then Lex turned and and ran as fast as he could in the opposite direction.
That man was dangerous. He put Lex's nerves on high alert. Though with his skills he could easily beat the man, there was something about him. He was... odd.
They were obviously talking about the powers. That man knows something, and so did Landon.
But all Lex knew was to run. He needed to wait for his time to get more information. He had a feeling that Lilian was the key, but he might never see her again.
Lex ran all the way home, locked his doors, and all the windows. Finally he was able to collapse on his bed. Soon he was out for the night, exhausted by all the events of the day.
Another short chapter, sorry guys. But hey a murder, isn’t that entertaining?
