Yu Chen turned her head to look ahead, "Yeah. He is a bit passionate about speed."
Si Xia started the car as he said, "And if he's planning on staying here long, he will really have to learn Chinese. We can't always be around him."
Yu Chen nodded but did not reply.
Si Xia made some feeble attempts at conversation but gave up as he only received half-hearted replies from Chen.
After a few minutes of silence, Si Xia spoke again, "What's weighing you down?"
Yu Chen was apparently deep in thought. She looked at Xia with a confused expression and blinked. Si Xia reached out an arm to tuck a lock of her hair behind her hair.
He caressed the butterfly clips she wore and her cheek for a lingering moment before his hand went back to the steering wheel.
"Am I driving too fast?" He asked in a worried tone.
Yu Chen seemed surprised, "No. Not really. I actually didn't even notice the speed."
Si Xia: "What's on your mind?"
Seeing that Yu Chen hesitated, he spoke again, "You don't have to tell me. Just know that I'm here."
Yu Chen shook her head and her face finally broke into a grin, "I swear, your sweet talk will be the death of me."
Si Xia smiled and did not pursue the matter further. He was sure that Chen would talk to him whenever she was ready.
Yu Chen spoke after a few minutes of silence, "I was wondering about Sam."
Si Xia: "What about him?"
Yu Chen: "Well, I was thinking about why he came to China?"
Si Xia: "Probably to visit. He must miss you. You've been his rival for so long."
"Hmm..." Yu Chen agreed.
Si Xia continued, "And you know he's the second child of the great Mr. Darcy. And being thr second child comes with a considerable level of freedom. You know, it's probably on a whim he came here."
Yu Chen: "Well that's true. He does things on whims whenever he wants. But...."
Si Xia: "You're wondering why he came to China?"
Yu Chen nodded, "It's not like I'm not happy to see him or anything. It's just.....that his visit without any notice...and not even telling how long he is staying.... It's a bit weird."
Si Xia looked at her with a smile, "You've turned into a very cautious person."
Yu Chen smiled a bitter smile and did not reply. Of course she had. With all that had happened before the jump, she had learnt the hard way not to trust anyone unless their intentions were crystal clear.
Si Xia broke her chain of thought, "Well you know.....I can guess why he came to China."
Yu Chen looked at him surprised, "You can?"
Si Xia said in a solemn voice, "Don't act like you haven't already guessed. You've known him for seven years. And I know you're not that much of an idiot."
Yu Chen sighed. This was what she had been regretting, "I hoped that it was only a crush. That he would grow out of it."
Si Xia turned to look into Chen's eyes for a brief moment before setting his eyes back on the road, "I saw how he looks at you. That's no crush."
