章 49: Family
She remembered how her mother and father had been when she had returned home previously. She had been heart-broken over Si Xia and said that she wanted to finish her school in a small school in a nearby town. Her father, though did not show it, had been really worried. Yu Chen used to have trouble sleeping after the incident. She would have dreams about Si Xia and Yuan Zuan.
But she had never told anyone about anything. She only said she missed them and did not want to stay away from them. During nights, she would always be lying awake in her bed, but would pretend to sleep if either her mother or father came to check up. But her father seems to know what was happening, he would sit at her bedside holding her hand and just stay there. It really helped her fall asleep.
Yu Chen's mother used to pamper her beyond the normal justified limit. She was a great cook and would always cook Chen's favourite things. It was one of the reasons that Chen had never been able to get thin and skinny.
But the greatest of them had been Yu Mian. A year younger than Yu Chen, she was like the life of the family. An active girl always laughing and running around. Now that Chen thought about it, she had never really seen Mian cry. Never seriously, anyway. Mian was pretty. She had dark brown hair just like Chen, and brown eyes that greatly matched her hair. She was skinny, not very much, but compared to Chen anyway. Her hair was long, falling below her waist, which was usually tied in a plaid. Mian was a great writer, she wrote beautiful stories, and Chen remembered that she even had one or two published five years later. Chen had started going to the same school as Mian, though was a year senior. During that time, Mian had never left her alone. She was always by her side rambling about little insignificant things. Chen knew it was because Mian knew that if left aline to her thoughts, Chen would most probably start crying. So she kept her company and helped to keep her mind away from Si Xia. Mian also never asked about what had happened in the city, but Chen had told her. She had told her everything, it took a lot of courage and time, but she had done it. And Mian had cursed Su Xia in such a unique way that Chen had burst out laughing.
Yu Chen remembered those days. They should have been the worst days of her life, they probably were. But her family had made them bearable and they were the only reason why Chen had survived those five years and never thought about taking her life.
Chen opened her eyes. She was never again letting them suffer those things. Yup, never again. With these thoughts in mind, Chen rolled down from the bed and got back to practicing.
The next day was the competition, the day which would decide her future in many ways.
