A pathetic existence Satan leads.
Pitiful, angry, full of greed,
He watches humanity with envy and hate,
Wishing that he could rule our fate.
Against God he continues to fight,
Contending against the love of Christ.
In vain struggles the lord of sin,
Waging a war he can never win.
He's haunted oft' by a memory.
It stirs in him great agony,
For deep within the lord of sin
Lies a knowledge of what he could have been.
He once was favored in God's sight.
He was an angel of grace and light.
Before the creation of earth or sun,
He was Lucifer, the Shining One.
"Light-Giver" was his title then.
He was great in the sight of Heaven.
But ambition would cost a heavy price,
For the throne of a God was set to his eyes.
The eternal salvation of men and women
Is the glory of the God of Heaven.
Watching us from His Glorious throne,
He wishes to welcome us to our eternal home.
In those early days, He could see
That we would need to be redeemed,
For even the greatest of us would sin,
Distancing ourselves from Him.
A Savior was the only way,
Somebody our price to pay.
And so, as the Redeeming One,
The Father chose His Firstborn Son.
But watching this with jealousy,
Lucifer stepped forward to make his plea:
A Savior he'd be, and none would he lose.
He told the Father him to choose.
In his plan, none would be lost,
But the price was far too high a cost.
Though all would come to our Heavenly Home,
We'd find Lucifer upon God's throne.
All would listen to his voice,
For none would ever have a choice.
In chains forever we would be.
With him, none would ever be free.
The throne of God being Lucifer's price,
He rendered void his "sacrifice."
He could not save all daughters and sons.
Such selfish pride could not even save one.
In love, God chose His Firstborn Son.
He would be the Redeeming One.
Knowing there was too much to lose,
Lucifer's plan He did not choose.
In anger, Lucifer did rebel.
For this, he was cast down to hell.
He forfeited his earthly years,
And over him a God shed tears.
Satan then became his name
When he was brought down to shame.
The devil is his title now.
He has become evil and foul.
Jealous of our happy state,
Humanity he has come to hate.
Our salvation he wishes to undo,
For such joy he will never know.
Marriage, for him, is cause for strife.
He'll never feel the loving touch of a wife.
In friendship he can never grow.
Falling in love he'll never know.
A savior he once said he'd be,
But now he is our enemy.
Once he claimed our souls he'd save,
Now he wishes them inside hell's grave.
His world is truly as black as night,
And he will never win this fight.
Though he and his demons plague us all,
We shall not to his evil fall!
