It was bright, several blinding colors lit up the streets of Skysea City and roars of weapons firing and undead screaming bloody echoed throughout it all.
The situation in the city was getting worse and worse, with the undead coming ever closer to conquering the city with a Soul Sage Ghoul leading a hundred thousand zombies and ghouls in the war against the living. Harvesting even more innocent lives as they flooded the city with their inexhaustible undead body.
The military army of Skysea City and the forces of both Spirit Pagoda and Tang Sect that had gone to annihilate the biggest threat in the city, had failed. With most of them having been either killed or turned into zombies and ghouls.
They had underestimated the Soul Sage Ghoul, he was a powerful control system soul master with powerful soul skills to match and a pseudo three-word battle armor. Making the ghoul have the battle prowess equal to a peak Titled Douluo! Someone just a shy away from having the power of a Hyper Douluo! That monster had singlehandedly annihilated more than half of the allied forces coming to destroy him.
Though he wouldn't have been able to do so without the help of the evil soul masters who were the main conspirators in this apocalyptic event.
All hope seemed to have lost when...
"Die!"
Wei Lu screamed as he controlled his Mecha to fire even more soul lasers and bullets at the Soul Emperor Ghoul in front him but the undead either dodged or tanked everything that was thrown at him. His battle axe was raised behind his back and was about to swing it towards him when the commander punched him, sending him flying back.
Wei Lu panted, feeling tired, as his soul power decreased as he used it to empower his Mecha, and didn't pursue the ghoul further. Instead he kicked a group of zombies that had sprinted towards him.
No matter how much he wanted to get rid of that blight in humanity, especially since he was the biggest danger right now, guarding the Rabbit street was his number one priority.
Even though the rest of his surviving comrades were doing their best to keep fighting against the horde, it wasn't enough. There was just too many of undead and they had just lost a significant amount of their comrades. Their anger was now waning as fast as how they are losing ammunition.
'At this rate we could only fight for another hour or two. No. We probably wouldn't even make it pass half an hour with how relentless this zombie horde is now, along with that monster.' Wei Lu gritted his teeth as tried to make up a plan to overcome this perilous situation.
Unfortunately he wasn't given enough time to think as he was rattled in his Mecha cockpit, feeling like he was hit by a truck, disorienting him.
"Ah!" Wei Lu let out a short yell of distress, finding the Soul Emperor Ghoul in his soul screen that showed the undead monster had rammed itself to his Mecha's torso, knocking it out of its feet and causing severe damages to it and its pilot as the cockpit of all Mecha was in its torso area.
The ghoul let out a animistic growl, looking almost unscathed except for dents and scratches on its battle armor. His battle axe was held by his left hand, he sat upright on the Mecha as Wei Lu remain stunned, and raised his battle axe with both hands over his head and his one black soul ring to cover his battle axe in a black glow ominously, large amounts of soul power began to burst out of the undead that quickly attracted Wei Lu's comrades.
"Commander Wei!" They screamed out for their commander, deep worry and concern in their voice.
They tried to come for their commander's rescue but was impeded by the wave of zombies rushing at them. Even when they tried to use their thrusters to fly they would get swarmed and use their numbers to weigh them down.
"Don't panic!" Wei Lu yelled out to his comrades, stopping them in their tracks. "I got this! Keep defending the street and exterminate all these bastards!"
After saying that he immediately took control of his Mecha once more and used its right hand to threw a punch towards the ghoul but its entire arm was sliced apart from its shoulder by the ghoul's battle axe, which its attack cut deep into the ground below where the Mecha's right arm was.
It was a cut that reached 100 meters deep into the earth!
The ghoul growled, angry that its most powerful attack was used to cut only one part of the enemy in front of him and not totally destroying it. Well, he'll just have to use it once more.
Wei Lu didn't give the undead any time to use it again however and used his other operational arm to grab him with lightning like speed and threw him as far away as he could, sending him flying dozens of meters away from him.
"Soul power battery, 30%. Ammunition, 13%. Looks like I have to use melee attacks soon to minimize power usage." Wei Lu huffed as he checked his Mecha system and told his comrades to continue on killing more of those zombies.
He let out a sigh of relief and controlled his Mecha to stand right back up as he knew that throwing that bastard was only a temporary solution and would be back in a matter of seconds.
Although average black Mechas are powerful machines that can easily take a full power punch of a power assault system Soul Sage, the Soul Emperor Ghoul Wei Lu was facing had the combat prowess of a Soul Douluo due to its battle armor and add to its tyrannical battle axe, it was no wonder that his Mecha was getting beaten.
He has to somehow kill that monster now, or they would end up all dead soon than later.
Wei Lu and his squad had already accepted the fact that they had a most certain chance of being either killed or turned in this battle of defending the public shelter. They hadn't receive any word from their superiors or any other military force left in the city that can help them out for hours. That must mean that they're either dead, turned, or had already fled the city through secret tunnels.
They were going to die.
But everyone in their organization wanted to fulfill their duty and die fighting for in their very last breath to try and save their people.
This duty, this purpose, is what had drove them for years to live. Heck, some of the people in the organization sole purpose in life was to fulfill the duty given to them. Without them, they were nothing.
And Wei Lu was one of them. He lived and was raised in the organization, and was taught with the belief to follow through the duty of protecting the city's people, even with the cost of your life.
He wasn't to lose hope or turn tail and run away, doing so would make him feel as though he let down those that had died and/or turned. Even if he has to sacrifice himself, he wouldn't even complain.
Three seconds later and he was proven correct in his assumption earlier but when he saw the Soul Emperor Ghoul emerging more, flying straight towards him with a booming sound with a pair brown colored, decorated with grey gems, 5 meter long wings on his back Wei Lu paled.
The Soul Emperor Ghoul wasn't wearing a one-word battle armor, he was wearing a two-word battle armor!
This completely changes the entire situation. Wei Lu had assumed that the undead Soul Emperor he was fighting only had a one-word battle armor, capable of increasing a soul master's power by two whole realms and amplifying some of their martial soul abilities. He and with the help of his black Mecha and martial soul, a wooden stick laying on his lap capable of increasing certain physical attributes, which can be extended to his Mecha, by 25%.
However, it was an entirely different matter if it were a two-word battle armor. Ignoring the fact that it could make a soul master, at Soul Emperor and below, the ability of flight, its two whole realms of power enhancement is slightly more qualitative and one's martial soul abilities and/or skills are even more enhanced!
This Soul Emperor Ghoul didn't only have the combat prowess of a Soul Douluo, it had the power of a Peak Soul Douluo, and it was flying straight at Wei Lu's Mecha!
"Shit!" Wei Lu shouted and activated his first and second soul skills, strength and defense to his Mecha. He prepared himself for–
"Raaaaaaghh!!"
"Agh!" Wei Lu spat out a mouthful of blood, his soul screen cracked, shattered and caved in. Sharp shards of broken glass and metal pierced his body, making him bleed. His black Mecha was sent flying back as the Soul Emperor Ghoul rammed itself once more into its torso area. Only this time, it completely knocked his Mecha out of its feet and into a building behind Wei Lu's squad.
"Commander!" The members of his squad shouted out, helpless to help him as they fight off the swarm of infected.
"No!"
"Don't die on us sir!"
"Didn't you say that you would be there on my wedding as my best man?! Don't you fucking break it!"
The roars and groans of zombies and the sounds of weapons firing continued on without any response from either Wei Lu and the Soul Emperor Ghoul. They tried communicating with their commander via radio but all they got was static.
Seconds stretch on to minutes and there was finally a movement coming from the building and then behind them, making them feel hopeful that their commander had come back alright.
Sadly however, it wasn't Wei Lu who came back.
"No..."
"Hungry... Meat... Eat... Kill... Kill... Kill!" The ghoul thrown its head back and let out an ear piercing shriek that shattered the glass windows in the surrounding buildings.
Wei Lu's squad squad had to cover their ears with their own hands in pain just to block out the awful shriek from the undead despite having activated the mute button to block the outside noise and using soul power. Even the four pilots with black Mecha couldn't block out the sound.
They tried to ignore the noise and take back control of their Mecha but the sound was too much for their eardrums to handle, making it bleed, and was losing their focus.
The undead horde took advantage of that.
"Raaaaaaghh!"
The wave of zombies begun swarming the Mechas and tearing through their metallic bodies without mercy.
The black Mechas screamed, they disregarded their hearing; which destroyed their eardrums and losing their sense of hearing, and activated every single weapon in their arsenal to push back at the horde while also launching a barrage of high explosive missiles at the Soul Emperor Ghoul, stopping his terrifying shriek.
Everything turned chaotic.
Everything, turned hopeless.
"Not yet..." Wei Lu muttered, his face darkened and blood sipping down his forehead. His Mecha was buried inside an office building and rested upright at a meeting room.
He had managed to survived the collision thanks to his black Mecha and martial soul skills and that the Soul Emperor Ghoul's attention immediately went towards the squad because they had more meat than him.
Although ghouls still retain their human intelligence, it was however corrupted by the constant hunger of human flesh thus lowering their intelligence.
"I ain't dying here..." Wei Lu took a sharp breath in and grabbed a hold onto his controls. Although his soul screen is completely damaged, the exterior torso and three other limbs' motor functions are still operational. It was hard but not impossible to once more take control of the Mecha.
"This is my friends and I first real mission. Isn't it embarrassing that I just croak myself? Also, my city still needs me. How can I fail them? How can I fail my brothers? My sisters? My city?! My people?! Fuck! I just got myself a girlfriend goddamnit! I ain't dying here and making her an early widow! Although I haven't married her yet... But I ain't dying to a fucking undead!"
With that loud proclamation, Wei Lu used the thrusters under his Mecha's feet to fly out of the building and float in the air. His appearance in the sky caught the attention of his squad.
"Commander?! Yeah! He's alive!"
"Yeah! That's my boy! Woo!"
Wei Lu's squad cheered for the return of their commander.
Wei Lu's attention was on somewhere else.
The dust and smoke covered a large part of the Rabbit street. The dust behind his squad was especially thick before the Soul Emperor Ghoul blew the dust away with one swing of his battle axe. Growling snarls could be heard coming out of his mouth.
"Annoying... I... don't like you... I, kill you!" With one big flap of his wings, the ghoul slightly crouches down and took one big jump up, making him fly up towards Wei Lu's black Mecha.
"C'mon you bloody bastard!" Although his soul screen and camera was broken, Wei Lu use of his spiritual power to `see' out of his Mecha and around him.
He lifted his left arm up, palm open to reveal a circular barrel, and fired rapid short beams of soul power at the fast approaching ghoul who tanked all of it with his battle armor. Wei Lu cursed internally and at the back of his black Mecha opened up to reveal 30 armed small missiles. Unlike the normal small missiles he and his team had been using to clean up those horde of zombies, these small missiles at the back of his Mecha were all at rank 7 and could only be used at the most dire situation.
And this was a dire situation.
Pausing for a moment to locked their target he unhesitatingly fired them all at the ghoul.
The Soul Emperor Ghoul let out a raspy roar of anger and folded his wings for a moment before flapping back away, maneuvering and dodging through all the missiles coming at him. Although he could try to tanked those missiles, what remain of his human intelligence and instincts told him that he wouldn't be able to and suffer through extreme injuries.
The ghoul growled and begun cleaving through the small missiles with his battle axe. He decided to disregard his safety and go on the offensive. It didn't matter if he took any severe injuries. As long as he still remains somewhat whole, he could regenerate his missing flesh by consuming others as well. This was one of the reasons as to why the human soul masters had a hard time killing ghouls, they were like fucking cockroaches! As long as they can get their hands on any human flesh to regenerate their own, they could continue on fighting at their peak!
Seeing how the Soul Emperor Ghoul was just destroying his missiles and disregarding his safety, Wei Lu gritted his teeth. He took a glance at his Mecha battery level.
Soul power battery, 19% remaining. Ammunition, 5% remaining.
"Fuck!" Wei Lu cursed. Is this it? Will the people in the public shelter die? Is Skysea City already doomed? He would have contacted the other squads guarding the other streets and the public shelter to evacuate the civilians but knew that they wouldn't been able to. There just no other safe areas for the civilians to go through in this area of the city. It was why they were guarding the streets.
Is this the end?
"Hello? Is this captain Wei Lu?" Suddenly, a unknown, and somewhat young, boy's voice sounded out of the communicator of his Mecha.
'What the?' Wei Lu blinked his eyes. He didn't recognize this voice. He knew everyone of his organization members' voices, so he knew that there was no one, who was speaking through his intercom, was from the organization and his squad.
"W-Who are you?" Wei Lu asked in a stutter of confusion and wariness. It was impossible for some unknown person to be able to use their radio channel and communicate with him, moreso since the channel turned private because his team didn't say anything about the newcomer.
"Relax. I'm a friend. Gotta say, that was a magnificent show you and your boys showed." The voice said, ignoring his question of his identity.
"You-!" Wei Lu widened his eyes. Is this person watching them? Is he finding this situation, funny?!
"I'm sorry if I'm coming out as rude and disrespectful. I just arrived here to see you fighting that monster and your team holding back a horde of undead. So forgive me if I find that awe inspiring." The voice sounded apologetic.
This calmed Wei Lu down and asked.
"What do you want?"
"I want you to trust me and follow my orders for a bit. If you want you and your team to survive." This made Wei Lu swallow the words of rebuttal coming out of his mouth. "So, shut up, listen up, and back away a little bit. No wait, back away as far as you can preferably if you want to live."
Wei Lu narrowed his eyes and was about to argue but remembered what the unknown voice had said. Thinking about it for a moment he clicked his teeth and followed the voice's order to back away. Though not before telling his subordinates as well. All the while the ghoul was still busy with the small missiles coming at him, with more added by the rest of Wei Lu's squad.
A few seconds later, Wei Lu was already half a mile away from the ghoul when the unknown voice returned.
"Good. You're a quick in decision making, no wonder you were made captain. Now, don't. Move. I am the bone of my sword..."
Wei Lu didn't know why, but hearing those last few words coming out of his communicator made him shiver with cold sweat.
"Caladbolg."
A split second later, Wei Lu felt something fast coming from behind him, despite being inside a Mecha, before passing by and continuing towards the flying Soul Emperor Ghoul.
Another split second later, a huge explosion hit the Soul Emperor Ghoul equal to a rank 8 soul-fixed ammunition bomb; engulfing the powerful undead in a giant sphere of flames and a mushroom-like smoke to rise.
Wei Lu stared wide-eyed.
One shot? All it took, was one shot? One shot to kill a being that had the strength and power of a peak Soul Douluo? A being that had killed half of his team and almost killed him, was taken out in one shot?
He didn't have to communicate with his squad to know that they too were speechless.
Who or what in the hell was that?!
....
Xiu Ye smirked before letting out a long deep breath as he lowered a long black bow, feeling out of breath as he felt almost all of his soul power depleted just from tracing that broken phantasm. It is noble phantasm packed with a lot of soul power, making anything it hits explodes and dealing a considerable damage of equaling a nuclear bomb.
'Looks like tracing one A-rank noble phantasm and altering it to become a broken noble phantasm is my current limit.' Xiu Ye clicked his tongue. This was due to the fact that his soul power storage room (dantian) had decreased to being a normal repertoire of a soul elder because Tianguo's sealed soul power had taken room.
He stared blankly towards the far view, his silver eyes displayed no emotions as he stood still at the edge of a tall empty building without a single person inside it except for himself.
He changed out of his Eastsea Academy uniform and wore a tight, black sleeveless bodysuit with white linings that showed his highly defined body, long black pants and combat boots.
For some reason, to Xiu Ye, this entire ignited some sort of feeling inside of him. Though there other feelings he felt; sadness, anger, regret and guilt. But the most prominent and confusing feeling he felt the most–is nostalgia.
He felt like he had already seen this scene, experienced this situation, countless times for many years...
Is it because of Yamamoto's memories? Or is it something else?
Xiu Ye did not know.
He shook his head and pressed the soul earpiece on his right ear to radio in, "I've taken care the issue in this district. I'm going to recover some of my soul power for a bit sou could you both handle the other two streets, Mu Xi, Gu Yue?"
"Oh yeah! Finally! We got this, Ye!" Mu Xi excitedly replied.
"Un. Roger that. We'll clean out the streets from these filth." Gu Yue said straightforwardly.
Xiu Ye continued. "Wulin, Xie Xie, Xu Xiaoyan, Xu Lizhi, Ye Xinglan, are all of you in your positions? Teacher Wu, are all of Tang Sect's men in place?"
"Yes." All of them replied quick and firm.
"Alright," Xiu Ye's eyes sharpened like sharp blades that can cut through anything while the sun rises behind him, making him look like he was being basked in its divine light and be mistaken as a god of war with his long flowing red hair in the win, his hand holding onto an obsidian long bow and wearing his combat clothes that showed off his figure. "everyone move out! This time, this hour, we fight back against these bastards that has almost overtaken this city! Fight and kill them all! For the sake of the numerous innocent people that had died here, we fight!"
"Ohh!" Hearing Xiu Ye's passionate speech made everyone who was listening blood boiling and excited.
"Ha!" Xiu Ye let out a short laugh as he waits for the "cleansing" to begin.
In this new day of Skysea City, a place where any remaining survivors felt complete helplessness and despair, a new dawn of hope for them began to rise.
This was a day where and how the "cleansing" holiday was created.
.....
In a tall building of Skysea City, a man in his thirties with jet black shoulder length hair and a masculine face and a masculine figure, wearing a white t-shirt and long blue pants, stood at the edge of the rooftop with bare feet with a blank look on his face as he watches the sun rise.
The masculine man lowered his head with a dark look on his face.
"One of my seven ghoul generals has fallen... Humans has started fighting back and dealt considerable damage to our forces... That can't do...." A burst of dark malevolent soul power surged out of his body as seven soul rings appeared beneath him.
Purple, purple, black, black, black, black and black soul rings!
The man's eyes turned completely white as trails of purple lightning trailed across his face.
"I am the Great Dragon Ghoul Sage! Humans are to be our food and entertainment! They can't be allowed to do anything against us! Isn't that right..." The man glanced behind him.
"My goddess?"
A familiar twin-tailed red head girl smiled evilly.
