章 23: Chapter Twenty Three

"But how?! Lois Lane died over thirty years ago," Dick said incredulity.

He remembered the day of her death very well. It shook Clark making him leave Earth because of his loss, shaking the League to the core. How could there now be a kid between these two people?

"Oh, I wasn't aware that happened here..." Flash said a grief-struck look on his face. Looking downcast at the revelation, it almost seemed like he thought it had been his fault. But how could it? Lois died with a heart condition.

A firm hand landed on Barry's shoulder and Jon's kind voice broke through the speedster's gloomy state, "Uncle Barry, it's not your fault. We will fix it. Now that we are free again, it's only a matter of time."

"Wait, what do you mean, you didn't realize Lois's death happened here?" Dick asked frowning.

Dick knew with Barry Allen around this phrase could mean almost anything, but most of those 'meanings' were not anything good. He began to have a sinking feeling he knew what Barry was talking about and it just might be the key to where Raven had gone.

Meeting Dick's blue orbs, Barry finally spoke, but his next words sent Dick's world spiraling out of control, "Dick, this world was created from a Flashpoint and we have to fix it or the entire multiverse will be erased."

"What do you mean exactly by 'fix it'?" Dick asked clenching his fists.

Landing in a pool of green water, Terry looked around the small room in bafflement.

He really hated that he couldn't react in time to avoid this situation. Looking towards the place he had fallen Terry saw the trap door quickly seal itself shut and the room was bathed in darkness. But the darkness only lasts a few moments before the liquid he was laying in began to glow a sickly green.

The sound of sizzling appeared in the room and he realized the noise was coming from his suit. Cursing he stood and ran a system diagnostic program to see what damage the unknown liquid had caused.

The power was already down eighty percent and the amount of liquid that had managed to get into the tare the creatures had made earlier already made irreparable damage to the circuits. Meaning soon his highly advanced suit that had saved his life so many times in the past, was just going to be a plain costume soon.

"Slaggit!" Terry knew he didn't need the suit as much as he had when he first started, but it was a tremendous help to him. On this mission where it was considered to be one of the most dangerous places on Earth, the assistance the Batman suit offered was irrefutable. His bat-a-rangs and other equipment wouldn't automatically come out on his thought and it could really slow him down. Thankfully he had grabbed Kyodai Ken's weapon pouch, it was designed for easy access.

The first thing that he needed to do was get out of this place. The liquid he guessed to be acid of some form was eating through his suit at a very rapid pace. He had roughly twenty percent power remaining and he had no clue how long that was going to last, especially if he remained standing in a pool of what was eating it away. So, finding a way out was the main priority. The room was small but there appeared to be a doorway in the far corner.

Hoping he could find somewhere that wasn't covered in liquid death he approached the door. His luck wasn't good, it seemed the door was also sealed shut.

Releasing his retractable claws, Terry started slashing at the door. The claws had been proven in the past to cut through solid steel with a little effort. Surely, this door wasn't going to be an issue.

Five minutes later, Terry looked at the door he had been tirelessly trying to rip apart and saw he had made deep gashes in the steel but the door showed no signs of collapsing. He briefly wondered if Angela was also trying to open the trap door, or if something was happening to her.

Shaking his head, Terry couldn't think like that. The truth was, Angela might not have even known what happened to him and it would be stupid of her to wait around. They had a mission and Terry was a big boy. Angela had been trained by the best much like himself. She would trust him to get out of this alive. Just like he trusted her to still be alive when he got out.

Now, he just had to make sure he lived up to that expectation.

Narrowing his eyes at the obstruction in his way, Terry started to get a little pissed that such a stupid thing could keep Batman away from saving the people he needed to save. Pacing through the green liquid, Terry glared at the door one more time before he ran directly at it with all his force.

What Terry didn't realize at the time, was that this determination activated a part of his essence that had laid dormant since the day he had flown when he first got his powers. His Amazonian strength exploded out of his body and the door that had seemed so daunting before, was nothing but wet tissue paper to him now.

Throughout the entire ancient tomb, the force of that blow was felt and everyone couldn't help but wonder... Have the supers breached these walls?

A few floors down, Ra's decided to activate the machine that still held Bruce. He didn't want to take a chance of failing this time.

---

A green beam shot through the battle-torn air and grazed Kara's bicep outraging the young Kryptonian which allowed one of the Parademon a chance to try and bite her face. Sending a quick punch to the creature's face and launching it away, Kara narrowed her eyes on an Android that had been destroyed in the last wave of battle, which apparently the machine had a weapon that could actually harm her.

Quicker than the eye could see, Powergirl picked up a nearby stone and hurled it with her enhanced strength directly hitting the machine's nose. The sound of electrical discharge and a boom filled the air as she directed her focus on another nearby battle.

Diana had been completely surrounded by Parademon and she was promptly being overpowered by the incredible number. Diana was a true warrior and creatures such as these won't be able to hold her down for long. So, she decided to take a moment to look for Kal to see if he needed assistance.

Kara flew up into the sky in an attempt to get a better look at the battlefield and find her cousin as well, when three Parademons approached her from the tail. Beams of red energy shot around her missing her only by a hair. Glancing behind her, she found the creature's attack were plasmablasts coming from their mouths.

Determination filled Kara's eyes as she focused on what was ahead, the world blurred around her as she accelerated, while a plan began to form in her beautiful blue orbs. Unexpectedly, Kara changed her direction and burrowed into the earth's crust with tyrannical strength and force. The Parademon halted unsure what to do when Kara shot back out of the ground carrying two massive boulders the size of small cars in her hands. Quicker than the three could respond, Kara threw the massive pieces of earth directly at them. The projectiles soared through the air and swiftly made impacts with the three sending them back to the earth in a broken heap.

Dusting off her hands in triumph, Kara saw her cousin in his own battle.

Three of the Furies were attacking the older Kryptonian in consecutive waves. Each Fury had a specialty; Lashina's two main skills were her quick movement and hidden weapons. She had a skill that topped most would-be assassins on earth a hundred times over. Mad Harriet on the other hand, was a wild woman that often-used pulses of green energy to bind or shock her opponents into compliance. Also, she worked great with Lashina in their attack combos, making the two of them together virtually unbeatable. What the other two lacked, Stompa made up in spades with her overwhelming strength and unparalleled speed. The three were literally enough to take down armies. If they were not fighting someone that had massive reserves of energy and impenetrable skin, they would have ended this battle a long time ago.

Luckily for everyone else, Superman seemed to be holding his own and still seemed to be hold back as well. What bothered Kara the most at this moment was the open Boomtube that was still tarring open a hole in the sky. It hadn't shut since the Furies had come through, and Kara knew very well what or rather who was waiting on the other end of that portal.

As strong as Diana, Clark and she were… Darkseid wasn't someone they would handle easily. Even if they had another two Kryptonians, it would be very hard for them to win. The only way she would feel safe was if they could shut down that portal, but it was opened from the other end. They would need a field dampener to even disrupt the connection, and she didn't even know if Earth had the technology to do such a thing. She doubted they even had the time to activate such a device if they had one.

She just hoped that the dark god himself didn't decide to pay them a visit. If that happened, she hoped they were far enough away to survive.

---

Bruce opened his eyes and found himself on the ground, it was hard and a little wet but he had slept on less comfortable things in the past.

Getting a good look at what was below him, Bruce spoke out loud, "A sidewalk? Uh, my head!" Groaning he looked around him attempting to figure out where he was or how he had gotten there.

The poor lighting made it hard to deduce much. The only illumination in the area came from a street lamp nearby but Bruce felt that something was still not quite right.

It was a few moments before he realized what was wrong. The models of the cars in the area looked brand new but he knew for a fact they were at least thirty years old. These vehicles nothing like the sharp and edgy ones he usually saw on the streets of Gotham. Even the buildings around him were wrong. These days you'd only find this apartment buildings in lower Gotham. The designs seemed to be of an older version as well.

"What the hell is going on?!" Bruce growled.

Immediately remembered he kept a device that could help him in this type of situation, Bruce felt in his pocket for his cell phone. He wanted to see if he could find his location through the GPS, but as soon as he pulled it out, he got a message saying it was low on battery. He manages to get his general location, Bruce was surprised, soon the phone shut down completely and he found himself looking around trying to find a familiar landmarking. He was in Gotham City?

But something still wasn't right.

Of course, Bruce wouldn't allow himself to give into panic. He always believed to give in to any rampant emotions was idiotic. Fear was normal. Everyone felt fear because it is a product of evolution. Fear is one of our most natural responses to any given situation that might be out of our control. In essence 'fear' is naturally hardwired into our very core and its purpose is to keep us alive... It's understandable to be afraid but 'panic' is the product of unchecked emotions. Panicking will turn the protection fear provides into a handicap.

Calming down, Bruce started to think of possible causes he could cause him to be in this situation. It almost seemed like he had traveled back in time, but that didn't seem right.

Then something occurred to him, 'Maybe someone is playing with my mind!'

Then everything started to come back to him. Thirty-five years of loneliness and hard truths that made him into the man he had become. Taking on another wayward youth and giving him the Batman name. The abduction and the realization that Ra's had possessed Damian's body for years. Then watching him kill Talia before his eyes.

Dropping down to his knees, Bruce let out an anguished yell as he pounded the ground below him in frustration and anger.

Then Bruce's brilliant mind started to work. Deducing everything within moments Bruce realized what was happening. Ra's was most likely attempting to take control of his body and this was the battlefield they would fight.

Suddenly a damp newspaper landed on his shoulder flung by a seemingly invisible wind. Looking down at the article's title which were in bold letters he read aloud, "Joker has escaped! Can Batman save the day?!"

A peel of laughter rang throughout the darkened city street and the only light in the area suddenly shattered… With the sound of tinkling glass, Bruce was bathed in complete darkness.

Then a voice that has haunted him since the day the lunatic clown died filled the air with a hint of playfulness, "Lonely little Batcie, hasn't had a playmate in such a long time… I believe it's time we got…" The voice paused for a moment, then came back in a growl, "Reacquainted!"
