章 30: Chapter 28: Ambush
As John, Vincent, and Sora were escorting the Emperor to his quarters to call a day, but John and Vincent feel uneasy as they were walking through the hallway, while they were walking the hallway the two brothers notice the irascible feeling, feel that the eyes were watching them on every move.
Knowing that the enemies were waiting for a moment to strike, they reached the door of the Emperor's chambers. Mitsuo was standing at the door while Sora was resting his right hand on the grip, while John and Vincent were standing still like a statue making sure that they defended well the Emperor.
Suddenly, a hail of arrows struck the door as Sora was about to open; luckily, they didn't. John throws a Flashbang, then Vincent pulls his Glock 34 pistol, and enters the room to eliminate the threat. Sora and John scanned the hallway, then they brought Mitsuo to a safe place; Vincent cleared the room and got out to bring Mitsuo to safety.
They heard the explosion outside, and one guard was running in the hallway to notify them of what was happening. However, he saw his superiors were protecting the emperor; he rushed towards them and shouted "Emperor-sama!! We're under attack!! Sora-sama! We need rein-" he was cut off as arrows coming through the windows struck him.
The four covered themselves as they crawled slowly to avoid the upcoming arrows for them; John slowly got up and cleared the room. Therefore, the volley of arrows stopped, and as they entered, they saw 9 guards covering and doing their jobs to defend their emperor.
The officer saw them, and he said in a relief tone " Emperor-sama glad you are okay! The enemy attack ambushes us and suffers heavy losses". Sora nodded and saw three wounded guards while they were tending their wounds; the officer reported "Sora-sama, the assassins stopped their attack, we don't know what happened back there. They suddenly attack in surprise, casualties unknown. There are some of the remaining guards attack the assassins, we don't know next".
John and Vincent scouted the area from the window, analyzing the upcoming battlefield. Suddenly, they heard a war cry as the guards quickly position them and quickly pull out their standard Glock 19 pointing at the garden area, they saw around 30 imperial guards unsheathed their katanas and rushed towards the tree line and suddenly they saw Night Wind warriors rushed towards the imperial guards, Sora shouted " Sgt. Haruto" the officer named Haruto turns his attention to his superior, Sora continued "Haruto called the 1st division and 2nd imperial guards, tell the 1st secure the perimeter of the imperial palace and the 2nd will assist us here. Now hurry!" Haruto nodded and immediately left.
John and Vincent fired at their enemy and assisted their allies; minutes later, the remaining guards were pushed back and set in a defensive position. They were cornered, outnumbered, tired, and weakened, but they were ready to fight until the end.
The orcs positioned themselves within 100 m distance between them and their target, John climbs to the window to assist the remaining imperial guards, as John descends to the window, making his way to stand beside them.
Causing the survivors of Imperial Guards' confidence went higher than before, the Night Wind Assassins were freezing in shock that their 'target' fits in the description. Blue spiky hair, white skin, blue on the right side, and red on the left side-eyes, the eyes bear the hatred, and it can shake the world to the core. Their leader ordered all of them, that when he saw his enemy's description, he established a bounty on John. Now, here they are. Standing before him, The Night Wind Orcs were now filled with rage and greed; therefore, they were now in a rage and thought nothing straight at their mission. They made a risky move; they charged, discarded anything they had. John grinned at their attempt; he led the charge.
The Imperial Guards let out their war cry, so loud that the assassins staggered about this, causing them to halt their advance. The orcs finally thrown into confusion as they found themselves in a dangerous situation, John noticed this and it's time to give them a 'gift'.
As they were about to clashed, the ground tremble beneath there feet. Causing them to break their advance, both sides were thrown into confusion. John turns around and saw Vincent channeling his spell directly to orcs' position, a big hole was formed earning the orcs scream in fear as they fell to the pit. John chuckled and raised his sword then let out a war cry to intimidate the orcs to flee, nevertheless, the surviving orcs wince a little, a sudden thud heard from the orc's side, the orcs look at their fallen kin whose lying before them.
FIRE!!!
All of sudden, the ambush ensued as they caught the orcs off guard, dealing them in one blow. The Orcs have no chance to fight back, as they were cutting down one by one. With no leaders to guide them, they met their cruel fate before them.
The Imperial Guards screamed in victory as they saw their enemies die before them, as they fixed their eyes on the defeated enemy. No one noticed their allies revealed themselves in the treelines as they present themselves to John, informing him about what's happening outside of the imperial palace.
When John heard all this accounts from their leaders ahead of time, he quickly orders them to eliminate the remaining orcs that were trapped in the pit. They nodded, immediately gathered their men to kill the surviving orcs, a loud noise of pain, anger and sorrow filled the air.
John, Vincent and Sora were watching as the massacre occurred before them, unfazed by this the trio turn around to discuss more about the survival of Japan.
(On the Next Day)
John, Vincent, Sora, and Mitsuo sat in a dimly lit room, deep in conversation. They were gathered in the war room of the Imperial Palace, desperately brainstorming strategies to protect Japan from an imminent invasion by a horde of orcs.
They revised the previous plan where John represented, but, they all know that the plan was their best bet.
Vincent spoke first. "We need to devise a plan that guarantees the survival of your people, Emperor Mitsuo. The orcs are relentless, and if we don't act swiftly, they will overrun our entire nation."
Sora agreed. "The CCS 457th army is well-equipped, but the resources are limited. We should establish a diversion, drawing the orcs' attention away from the northwest frontline. This will give the army a fighting chance to defend the remaining cities."
Vincent nodded. "We already have the diversion, for now we need to know on where we could place our soldier
John leaned forward, his eyes gleaming with determination. "Shiroyama Mountain. It meets all our requirements. Its rugged terrain will make it difficult for the orcs to navigate, and its elevated position will enable our soldiers to gain the attention of the enemy forces. Meanwhile, the CCS 457th army can reinforce the cities, preparing for the inevitable orc onslaught."
Emperor Mitsuo pondered the plan, his experienced gaze piercing. "It's a risk, John. Sacrificing a portion of our soldiers to save the majority is a hard decision. However, me serving as a bait well, if it saves our people, we have no choice. We shall proceed with your strategy."
They all agreed at John's plan, and tomorrow they will give them all to survive for the sake of humanity's survival.
