章 52: Sentient Lightning Spirit
The girl was being bombarded with the ice needles in a continuous fashion. Everyone thought she would run out of stamina anytime soon. But, the bird like halo surrounding her grew more and more realistic as time passed by. With a final call, the phoenix was completely solidified into a tangible bird. The girl sat on it's head riding it while the bird, surrounded by lightnings of various colors, destroyed the icicles by accurately sniping the nucleation points with the lightning bolts.
" Sentient lightning spirit!! IMPOSSIBLE!! " the heavenly immortal stood from his seat, gaping at the lightning phoenix proudly flying in the sky, fighting against the jets of water with lightning strikes. He was a lightning cultivator himself and knew how hard it was to control lightning of rose gold and above. Possessing a sentient lightning spirit? He wouldn't even dare dream of it. It was a miracle in itself for the girl to conjure and control golden lightnings as a sovereign, much less possess a lightning spirit, high ranking one at that.
The pure white phoenix with raven black eyes and fiery yellow beak looked majestic, like a ruler of the world. It's call echoed in everyone's ears while it's talons already turned the tortoise upside down exposing its weak points to the razor sharp talons. He admitted defeat.
The phoenix slowly put the girl on the ground and then shrunk itself until it became as small as a canary and sat on her shoulder. She exited the stage under everyone's cheers. The final list of 24 participants was now ready. They were moved into another arena in the colosseum while the others dejected, left to the audience galleries. The 24 participants were then informed that they would be subjected to a special round that would eliminate half of them. The remaining 12 participants would then duel it out leaving 6 contestants who would then leave 3. The three would then duel in a battle royale. The one to first lose becomes 3rd ranked, and then the other two would duel to decide the final winner and the runner up for the tournament.
The special round ended without much surprise leaving 12 participants. The secondary duels started. Pretty much everyone who encountered the Elf or the girl were knocked out straight away. The final 3 to stand on the arena were the Elf, the girl and one of the twins.
" Poor fellow, he will be knocked out by the duo who seem to be friendly with each other. Only after that will we be able to see the real fight. " the immortal commented at the end of the semifinals. Just as he expected, the boy was not even given a chance to speak as he was blown off the arena by the combined assault of the auras of the duo who were preparing for the battle completely forgetting his existence. He was proved to be even unluckier than the immortal thought. The duo didn't even bother fighting him, yet, he was KOed.
The duo were smiling at each other despite the ferocious auras surging from them. They were ready for battle.

vikas20 Sentient spirits: It is possible for the elements to gain awareness and become elementals. When the elementals are nurtured by lower pantheon deities at the cost of their life force for several years, they gain sentience becoming spirits. These sentient spirits ( Dastan's Sidewinder divine flames and the girl's lightning phoenix for examples ) can act as totemic beasts forming a contract or become tamed beasts under temporary or permanent alliance or become independent beings that freely roam the universe.
