章 45: Guilt Was Foreign To Him
After four sessions of the Pomodoro study technique, she put down the highlighter in her hand and left it on the book she was reading. The Pomodoro which was a 25 minutes interval of studying and then 5 minutes of break, was very effective study technique she learned back when she was a med student in her previous life.
"After this break, I shall make flashcards..." Hexie said as she rummaged her school bag for her stacks of flashcards and pen.
It was another technique that enhances her memorization skills. On one side of the flashcard is the key word and on the back is the meaning of the word.
Once she placed the thick rectangular papers and pen on the table, she went out of Kazuki's room and planned to get a book from his private library. Surprisingly, the guy have collections of medical books that her professors recommend.
Once she stood outside of the room. She caught sight of the metal door which leads to the 'Red Room'. Kazuki specifically told her not to snoop around, but it made her more curious.
To her dismay, the room was locked. Her curiosity diminished and went on her way to the vast library. Curiosity is one of a female lead's trait,and she wasn't one so she didn't snoop around further.
'Who knows what monsters are inside that room!'
Aside from medical college text books, there were also books which Choi Kazuki probably have used during his highschool until now that he was taking a PhD program.
As she looked around, she saw a section full of novels and comics. There were new books that were added. Hexie decided to read them later after her study session.
Hexie went back to Kazuki's room and continued studying for their upcoming exams. It's better to study now than cram later. And for that, when the exam week comes, she could get enough sleep and just calmly review. She learned that the hard way back in her previous life as she lost her scholarship due to cramming. But she bounced back in the next sem.
Hexie put the newly brought medical book and looked for the chapter that her professor recommended them to study for. She jotted down the keywords on the flashcard as well as their meaning.
Hours passed and Hexie was now at the private library. She sat at the comfortable couch with a thick book on her lap. The book was about the history of I.C.E. University. There were interesting pages that were possibly added by previous students as they were about the urband legends in the university. Her eyes drooped down and she didn't noticed that she fell asleep.
Choi Kazuki looked at the sleeping red haired girl at the sofa. His annoyance from earlier dissipated as he saw the white patches on her neck. The feeling of guilt was foreign to him.
Kazuki sighed at the carelessness of this girl. She probably got a stiff neck from last night. And now she was sleeping with an unnatural position again.
Kazuki closed the book and put it in the table. Then he sat next to her and gently guided her upper body down so her head could rest on his lap.
Just as he thought; Wu Hexie really sleeps like a rock.
"Tch. This girl should learn not to sleep anywhere." He said and tucked in a strand of hair that fell on her face.
The smell of watermelon once again filled his nose. Her shampoo really smells good and it doesn't irritate his sensitive nose. His hand gently raked through her hair like he usually does to his white persian cat Elizabeth.
Kazuki stopped petting the girl's head when Wu Hexie pulled her legs up to the sofa so she could curl into a ball.
"Huh? Chubby bunny evolving to a cat..." Kazuki thoughtlessly murmured. The more he thought of Wu Hexie as a cat, the less annoying she becomes. He changed her name in his contacts to "A Hexie Cat" with an angry cat emoji, watermelon and mushroom emoji followed. He smiled triumphantly at his doing.
He studied Wu Hexie's side profile. There was something odd with this girl especially because her activities last year were unknown. Even his men were having a hard time fishing for information about Wu Hexie's private activities. There were few places she would be frequently visiting. The school, their house, Choi Villa, Third Wu Mansion, Wu Laboratories, and Sol Cafè.
Aside from that, he was still bothered what his mother meant by her "atonement" towards Wu Hexie years ago. He still haven't heard from his men about that matter.
It was in his nature to thoroughly check a person's background. He can't help but be suspicious as he have a lot of enemies since he's the heir of the Choi Empire. Both the legal business and their underground business. They might target Wu Hexie if he wasn't careful.
It was bad enough that his bandmates were being targeted as well especially during their fanmeets.
Speaking of his bandmates. Their meeting earkier was about pushing back their comeback date because of the conflict between Mingyu and Jinhai. Apparently Jinhai punched Mingyu so hard that Mingyu's teeth got knocked out. He needed dental procedures so it wouldn't disfigure his idol face.
"That damned Jinhai. This girl's wish just got granted..." Kazuki sighed.
A moment later...
"Hexie-chan, here are your snacks--- Oh!" Kotone stopped midway when her son held up his finger infront of his lips.
"Awwe! Poor Hexie-chan. She must have been tired from studying for many hours straight! Here's her snacks, Kazuki-kun. Feed her well when she wakes up okay?" Kotone whispered as she placed a plate of creampuffs and a glass of Iced Chocolate on the table. Kazuki just nodded.
"Oh right! Can your prepare a short performance later? It would be nice if you two perform together since I heard that Hexie-chan sometimes play the guitar in Sol Cafè," His mother pleaded with sparkling eyes.
"Sol Cafè?" Kazuki raised his brows. The cafè that she frequently visits?
"Yes, I once followed her there and saw Hexie-chan at the platform playing soothing guitar music. She didn't told you she was helping out there?"
"No, that's an interesting piece of information..." Kazuki hummed. So that's why she's been to Sol Cafè so often. But why was she working part-time when she's the Third Young Lady of the Wu Corporation?
"Rest assured, mother. We'll be performing later." Kazuki smiled. But his smile contained a hidden intent like a prankster. Kotone missed it and softly clapped her hands.
"That's lovely! I'll see you two at the garden. We'll be setting the barbecue stand, so go down after changing to your camping attires okay? I'll be going now." Kotone left the couple as she skipped and hummed a love song. She was so happy seeing her son caring for her daughter in law.
Hexie snuggled at her pillow. She attempted to bring it to her chest so she could hug it when it didn't budge.
'Wait...was there a pillow at this sofa in the library? Or am I in that scary dragon's room?' Hexie tried recalling her memories. She was sure she was at the library. There was something off with the pillow. There was a dip at the middle. She traced the pillow and she was shocked that it got harder at the edge. And it extends towards the floor.
"Ehem. Enjoying my thighs, Wu?" She heard a deep voice from above.
Was god talking to her? Why did it sound like--
'Oh. No!'
