章 17: Patronus

Artland left Hogwarts for Christmas holidays and spent it with his parents. He bought them each a book called Magic Society for Muggles . He also bought a necklace for Bella that spun and looked like the Milky Way. They enjoyed their time together before Art had to leave back to Hogwarts. Letters from Fleur, Gabrielle and Susan continued exchanging letters with him throughout the break. Gabrielle and Fleur were going skiing somewhere in Switzerland while Susan was spending it with Amelia.

Art headed back to Hogwarts feeling happy and relaxed, it was the best he had felt for a long time. Back in Hogwarts Art was sitting in the common room while Fred and George were entertaining a few people with some Fizzing Whiz-Beez. Annoyed by the sound, Art packed his bag and left the common room and headed for the seventh floor.

"Expecto Patronum!" Art yelled.

White mist came out of Art's and started to make a shape before collapsing. Art let out a sigh and shook his head. He couldn't understand why his Patronus wouldn't take shape.

He decided to ask Dumbledore during his next lesson why his patronus wouldn't take form. Putting his wand away, he pulled out his father's knife and face four dummies who all held a different weapon including, staff, sword, spear and knives. Art took his stance and all four of them darted across the room at his in a blur. Art always felt the calmest when he fought, all distracting thoughts left his head and he only saw his enemies.

The battle went on for a while, with Art collecting a few bruises and scrapes but he was able to defeat them in the end. Leaving the room, he looked down at his robes and frowned, seeing them ripped in some places. Robes were not ideal for combat and he decided he would custom order some leather armour that could protect him next time he was in Diagon Alley.

Art showered and decided to go pay Hagrid a visit. Hagrid had told him that he would show Art some Hippogriffs today which Art was looking forward to. Making his way down to Hagrid's house, which was on the edge of the Forbidden Forest, Art saw a large horse shaped creature with the head of an eagle.

Art slowly approached it, trying to reassure it that he was a friend. The hippogriff stared at Art and let out a low cry. Much to Art's surprise, the beast bent one knee and bowed to him. Art quickly did the same thing and approached it. Running his fingers through its feathers. The beast nudged Art, trying to tell him to jump on which Art gladly did. Letting out a loud cry, two huge wings unfolded and the hippogriff took off running.

Soon they were in the air and Art could feel the cold wind on his face. It was winter so Art casted a barrier around himself. The hippogriff flew above Hogwarts, giving Art a beautiful view of the castle. It then flew across the frozen lake before landing back at Hagrid's. Coming out of his shack, Hagrid look stunned before giving a loud laugh.

"Looks like you met Buckbeak."

"He is incredible." Art said, dismounting from Buckbeak. He rubbed his head which Buckbeak closed his eyes and enjoyed.

"Yes he is." Hagrid said proudly. The next hour Hagrid showed him other Hippogriffs that all bowed to Art causing Hagrid to be stumped. Thanking Hagrid, Art left as it was getting dark.

The next day Art resumed classed as usual. Some first years heard the rumor that Art would help them with homework and approached him in the library. Art smiled and assisted them with a few charms they were having trouble with. Thanking him, they left the library and left Art sitting with Cedric who was working on Herbology.

"Why do you help everyone?" Cedric asked, watching the first years leave.

"I don't help everyone, only those that ask." Art said, as he wrote worked on the same report Cedric was.

"Isn't that everyone?" Cedric asked confused.

"Needing help and asking for help are different. Asking for help requires humility." Art shot him a mocking smile, "Remember how hard it was for you to ask me for the first time?"

Cedric turned slightly red. In his first year he was determined to be the best in his year and competed against Art. He studied later than anyone and practiced longer but he always came up short. When he heard that Art was taking extra classes it almost crushed him. He was angry and hated Art for being better than him. It would have been easier to hate Art if he wasn't so friendly and magnanimus. Cedric refused to ask Art for help for a long time until he saw the twins rapid improvement in class.

"You are a pain in the ass, you know that right?" Cedric said, focusing on his paper.

Laughing, Art said, "You really are a Hufflepuff, hardworking and dedicated."

"Shame though, you seem to be more Hufflepuff than me." Cedric said bitterly.

Art sat back in his chair and looked at the room, "The Sorting Hat wanted to put me in Hufflepuff and I would have been happy with that. I think Hufflepuff traits are the best out of the houses." he said, remembering what the hat said. He didn't say that the hat thought any house would be a good fit.

"Really? Everyone thinks it's where the leftovers go." Cedric said a little surprised.

Art shook his head in disagreement. "I would rather have a Hufflepuff at my back than the others."

"Why didn't it put you in Hufflepuff then?"

"It said that I wanted to follow my father and uncle's footsteps, which were both in Gryffindor." Art explained.

Cedric didn't say anything. He hesitated before asking, "Do you remember them?"

Art nodded his head. "Yes, I can still remember most of my childhood with them even though I was young."

"Then… do you remember him?" Cedric asked slowly.

Art's face went somber. He remembers the cold voice, red eyes and pale skin.

He nodded before returning to his work. Cedric didn't ask anymore questions and worked in silence along Artland. The two finished the report and left the library, parting ways.

The next day Art had his class with Dumbledore. Art explained that he wasn't able to make his patronus corporeal and was stunned as to why. Dumbledore asked him to perform it in front of him.

Grabbing his wand, Art pointed his wand upward and said, "Expecto Patronum!"

Like usual, white mist poured out of Art's wand and started to form a shape until it broke apart and disappeared. Seeing this Dumbledore frowned and looked at Art and then his wand.

"Do it again but this time don't focus on creating a corporeal patronus, just focus on the happy memories. Close your eyes and don't watch the patronus either." he explained, giving instructions.

Art could tell that Dumbledore had a theory and chose to trust him. Closing his eyes, Art focused on Tim and Bella saying they would adopt him. He then whispered, "Expecto Patronum."

Art felt his magic flow through his wand.

"Open your eyes Artland."

Opening his eyes, he saw a large bird with three sets of wings and small lighting bolts coming from it.

"Thunderbird…" he whispered, recognizing the beast.

"A patronus as a magical beast is very rare and powerful. Congratulations." Dumbledore smiled kindly at him.

Art smiled but suddenly felt his blood start to boil. Magic flowed into his wand without his control and started to spit out more white mist.

The mist started to form a large ox that glowed brightly. Dumbledore and Art looked stunned as the two patronus stood in front of Art. Dumbledore was about to say something but was interrupted by a low roar that filled the room. Art's wand started to shake violently as another Patronus came from his wand.

A dangerous looking dragon roared at the two patronuses. Art and Dumbledore both looked stunned at the three patronuses.

"I never thought three." Dumbledore said softly.

"You thought two though?" Art said stunned. Why would there be two?

"I had a hunch that your wand wouldn't allow you to produce another animal as dragons are usually prideful creatures and as Ollivander said your wand core still has some of the dragon's will in it, I could make some guesses." Dumbledore explained. He moved close to the giant ox and looked puzzled. "But I don't know why this ox is here."

"It's a Re'em." Art said, looking at the beast on his family's coat of arms. "It's from my bloodline."

Dumbledore stared at him intently. "Cason have a bloodline?"

Art nodded and then raised his hand towards the ox who placed it's large head against his hand. It felt weird, like smoke and silk mixed. "My ancestor did rituals with the blood of a Re'em. That's why our family has gold in our eyes and our bodies are slightly stronger than average." Art explained, thinking there was no point in hiding it from Dumbledore any longer.

Dumbledore had a look of understanding in his eyes and moved his gaze to the Thunderbird. "So this is your real Patronus, a Thunderbird." he smiled and looked at Art, "We both share an affinity with magical birds it seems."

Art moved closer to the patronus and marveled at its beauty. Though it was only a patronus, he could see the power and grace a real Thunderbird would have.

Art frowned and looked back at Dumbledore, "But sir, I learned this charm to find out what my Animagus form might be. I can't be three different animals for my animagus."

Dumbledore frowned and muttered, "No… three beasts is impossible. You don't use your wand during a transformation so I can safely say the dragon is out. But for the other two…" he trailed off and looked at the Re'em and Thunderbird.

Dumbledore looked at Art, his face serious. "If you do try and become an animagus you must inform me. I must be there to ensure nothing will go wrong." he voice was serious as he looked at Art, leaving no room for debate.

Art nodded his head, no opposed to some help. He watched as the three beasts flew around the room in awe.
