Merlin and Morrigan continued to chat animatedly as they made their way toward the town gates.
Xiara was at the inn renting rooms leaving Ra and Bast alone.
Ra folded her in his arms once more and breathed in her scent, "I was so worried," Bast heard him whisper.
His hands were combing strands of her hair as the world grew quiet around them.
Slowly, his senses began to pick up the dull chatter and echoing screams of children darting through the streets, a few roads over they could hear a man hollering at a street urchin who had apparently robbed him. Wind whistled past their ears as they stood for a long time in this pleasant embrace.
Finally, Ra took a deep breath to steady himself, "Let's get to the inn," he suggested. Bast nodded but didn't let go. Ra let out a small chuckle and lifted her up.
Automatically, she wrapped her legs around his waist.
This scene drew looks from the townsfolk as Ra walked slowly along the cobbled street.
Lovelorn ladies sighed with yearning as they watched them and the men shot him envious stares.
It seemed romance, was not yet dead. Bast shifted in his arms and Ra felt something stir within him as Basts' heaving chest pressed against his. Ra was acutely aware of her beating heart.
Her nose was buried in his neck and he could feel her breath forming moisture on his skin.
Feeling lightheaded Ra quickened his pace, the inn wasn't far but he suddenly felt the urge to get behind a closed door as quickly as possible.
Merlin had just walked up to the straining form of Gwyn who had still not moved from the last position they'd seen him in.
Morrigan was right behind him peering curiously at her twin as they approached.
"Hey scamp," Merlin said suddenly, tapping the tip of the small Dragons snout as they drew near.
"Whoa!" Gwyn was startled and leapt backward, unfurling his wings as he did so, his silvery orbs glowing in their sockets, a deep grey mist began to emanate from his body.
From the air, Gwyn plummeted like a stone into the River Ard.
Thinking fast, Merlin dove into the river after him, plunging his head beneath the surface as he swam with incredible speed.
Merlin pulled a sopping wet, sputtering, white haired boy onto the banks of the river and collapsed beside him.
4 nearby fishermen paused their conversation to gaze at the pair with inquisitive expressions.
Almost at the same time, two distinct laughs split the air as the two threw their heads back to howl with laughter.
"Well done," said Merlin, grinning at him.
"Thanks Uncle Merlin!" Gwyn grinned back, showing all of his teeth.
Meanwhile Morrigan could only sigh and shake her head, "Dumb idiot," she mumbled.
Gwyn had taken the form of a tall, muscular lanky haired boy. His eyes retained their silvery glow and his features were noticeably cat-like. Gwyn kipped up from the ground in one smooth motion and began testing his limbs, adapting quickly to his new form.
He was stretching him joints repeatedly before Merlin interrupted him, "Alright, that's enough," he said chuckling, "Your father wants to see you, come on then." he urged patiently.
Gwyn's eyes grew wide with happiness, "oh yeah, come on, let's go see father!" he said excitedly as he pulled Merlin's arm tugging in the direction of the town.
"Bring me, bring me, bring me!" Gwyn was very impatient causing Morrigan to roll her eyes in annoyance. "They may look exactly alike but the two are like night and day," Merlin observed discreetly.
"Alright, alright, we're going." Merlin said laughing, feeling a sense of warmth settle in his heart, and they set a quick pace back into town.
Ra heard a knock at the door, and he quickly rolled off of Bast and threw the thick blanket over both of them as the door swung open to admit a white haired young boy who barreled into the room and flung himself onto Ra's chest. His head smashed Ra in the chin causing his teeth to ring.
Ra was confused as to what this strange kid was doing here until he saw Morrigan and Merlin waiting in the hall, having shown a bit more tact than the wild spirit currently sitting on his chest. With one hand Ra raised the kids head to stare into silvery white orbs set in a handsome young face.
"Gwyn?" Ra asked him, rubbing his jaw tenderly. The boy nodded excitedly, "Father really knows me best!" he said happily and glanced around, "Where's mama?" he asked, "I don't see her!" he complained impatiently.
Bast chose this moment to throw the blanket off of her head, having been buried by Ra not too long ago, "I'm here, baby," she said sweetly, her green eyes shining in the dim light as she smiled at him. "MAMA!" and just like that, Gwyn leaped from Ra's arms to Basts' without hesitation.
"Traitor," Ra grumbled. Bast laughed high and sweet as she nuzzled her face in Gwyn's hair.
"My darling boy," she laughed, "look at you! I knew you could do it!" she said and rubbed noses with him causing him to giggle.
"Mama, look!" he said eagerly, and his left hand began to shift into a white scaled claw, he changed it back into a 5 fingered hand, "I can do my feet too!" he said excitedly.
"I believe you!" Bast said quickly as she began to tickle him.
Ra cleared his throat, "Well, if the two of you are done, I have something to say," he began quietly.
Bast rolled her eyes, "If you must," she said with a hint of annoyance and clucked her tongue at him. Gwyn fixed him with a stare after nestling deeper in Basts' arms.
"Morrigan? this concerns you as well." Ra said to her, she was peering into the room from behind Merlin's cloak with a wrinkled nose.
"Go on," said Merlin, and Morrigan took several tentative steps into the room.
Ra lifted her up when she got close enough and settled her on his thigh, she resembled a porcelain doll with perfect features as she gazed up at him curiously.
"It is time you two understood where you come from," he began, "Because a year from now, when we return to the continent, the two of you will play pivotal roles in ending the war between Human and Dragonkind." Ra paused to look at their faces which were filled with indecipherable emotions, he pulled Morrigan's hair back to place a gentle kiss on her forehead. "It doesn't change anything," he said quietly, "The two of you are our children." he said looking at the two of them who already had traces of tears beginning to well up in their eyes.
And Ra sounded much older than his 17 years, he hadn't told them anything yet, but they could guess. Of course they weren't idiots, they knew two humans could not give birth to Dragons, still, it had been a beautiful illusion.
