71.42% Hekate of Krypton / Chapter 15: 『Fade』

章 15: 『Fade』

Sight faded in and out between brief bouts of pain. The smell of iron, blood, filled the ear. The room was sterile, she could smell the latex gloves, the scrub uniforms. She never closed her eyes, but one could tell her consciousness wasn't always there.

After about an hour of laying face down, with her head turned to the side, on the operating table. She felt a warmth, the sun's rays on her back. He was invigorating, the power, it was as if she was being recharged like a battery.

The yellow lights were pleasing, yet the white fluorescent lights were nauseating. She hated the fake white lights.

"Mmmm," letting out a slight moan, stretched slightly beneath the lamp light and gazed around the room. There were many eyes on her, Director Hank Henshaw's being the primary. She stared at him, at J'onn J'onzz and smiled partially.

It was a like a coy child who knew they had tried to do good, and failed, getting hurt instead. A smile that reassured that they'd be up and running very soon.

『Advisory: After being exposed to Kryptonite for the first time and you being severely injured. The Guardian-1 suggests that you put all your EXP into the Kryptonian Physiology. It will increase your natural abilities under a Yellow Sun, will you follow this advice?』

Just then she used the EXP, with her mental allowance, to increase her level on her Kryptonian Physiology. When she had done this, yellow tendrils of light began to leave the Yellow Sun Lamps and travel into her body. An immediate power boost, she bit her lower lip as she felt herself charge up even more than she ever had before.

She was at least ten times stronger than before, ten times faster, denser, she could take more damage. She felt as if the resistance to Kryptonite was about fifteen percent, which meant it wouldn't take her down right away.

She brought herself into a sitting position with her feet beneath her. She rested her hands on her knees and closed her eyes partially.

Thinking back to when the Intergang seemed to have a piece of Kryptonite, her gaze moved towards the door of the facility. There was a massive window, it lead out into the city. She could only blink several times seeing where they were.

They were still within the limits of National City, and not only that, they were relatively close to where Winn's current loft was. A small grin formed over her lips, though she was wondering if he was worried about her since she never came back.

"How are you feeling?" J'onn J'onzz asked as he walked over to the table, the doctors which had removed the shrapnel now leaving the room.

"I am... Fine," She said as she opened her eyes and pulled up her hood. Her eyes gazed over the man's face for a moment before letting out a sigh. "Did you find out where they got the Kryptonite?"

He nodded slowly, as if he was disappointed about something. He was looking at the floor for a few seconds before returning his gaze to the pintsized Kryptonian. "They were able to obtain it through out inventory without us noticing."

Acknowledging his answer with a bob of her head, she chuckled slightly. "Sounds like the government can't be trusted to hold onto such a resource." She smiled at him once more as she placed a hand on his shoulder.

"You're just like Superman, you don't trust..."

Hearing him say this, she raised a brow slightly and cut him off. "Why would one trust a government that is all about power and profit? That's premeditated suicide." She held a face which clearly appeared to be holding back laughter.

The Martian blinked a few times when he heard the girl say this. It was as if she was placing the government of the United States in the same boat as the World Government of Krypton.

Krypton chose power over saving its people, that is why it had fallen and also why only a fraction of its civilization survived. Despite that, the ones on Earth believed themselves to be the only ones alive.

"You're a little anarchist," One of the agents nearby joked as he looked over at her. This man seemed to be one of the agents which had accompanied him on the field. Agent Wilks.

"Oh hai, Wilky, the adults are talking. Behave yeah?" The Kryptonian in the room grinned at the man, tilting her head to the side. She was sure pulling a childish card there, a rather sarcastic one at that too.

"Hmph." The agent frowned quietly as he gave her a stink eye before glancing away. He was surely not liking this child at all, especially since she had a smart mouth on her.

Hank just looked at the girl with a brow raised slightly and shaking his head. "You should behave as well," he responded as he placed a hand on her head, beneath her hood and ruffled her hair.

Hekate's face went blank as he messed up her hair on purpose.

"Oh c'mon don't make that face. Hank's just giving you some initiative," Agent Wilks decided to tease the girl, a form of petty revenge.

Hekate just looked over at him as her eyes seemed to get brighter, in the literal sense, she was charging her heat vision.

"Woah! Woah! Woah!" Hank moved himself in front of the Kryptonian girl, blocking her from using the heat vision on one of his men. "Behave or your both out!"

"Uh... Huh..." She stared up at him for a few moments before flicking his nose. If it had been anyone else, they'd likely be dead. Instead Hank just held his nose and glared at the child.

"Go Home Cadmus," Hank snarled as he pointed towards the door with his free hand.

Shrugging to herself, she giggled. She had flicked the Martian Manhunter in the face and she seemed rather proud of it. Hopping off the table, she began to hop and skip out of the room. Tripping Agent Wilks in the process before bursting into superspeed and flying out of the building.

After helping Agent Wilks up to his feet, he and Hank made his way over to the entrance in stride. Looking over the city scape, they had already lost sight of her.

It was already lunch time, twelve noon. The operation to save the girl had taken a long time, considering the fact that her body kept on grabbing at the pieces of shrapnel, though it did push some out.

"She's not mature enough to work in this setting," The agent complained to his superior who simply shrugged at the notion. "We can't trust her to watch our bac–"

"She watched our backs just fine last night," Hank said as he looked over at Hank. "She got hurt yesterday because we didn't have her back one hundred percent."

Wilks just stood there for a few moments before lowering his head a bit and nodding. He understood what he was saying. Hekate had been hurt because she got in the way of Shrapnel that would have killed his colleague. She almost died in a mortal's arms, she came closer to dying than Superman ever had at this point.

"Understood Sir," Wilks seemed to regain his composure as an Agent of the DEO. His posture was erect, healthy and superior. He looked towards the very woman that Hekate had saved yesterday.

She was down in the central command center looking over the screens hosted by satellites.
