章 6: SS.01 Chapter 5
Anna remembered the note left in Dave's room. She pulled it out from her pocket and realized that the name written in it was exactly the protagonist's name.
With this, Anna decided to add a bit of a lie in her excuse. "I read the note to look for David Bradley. I don't know how to explain, so I…"
"So you claim that he was our child? Do you want to use him as leverage against me?" David coldly asked, forcefully taking Dave away from Anna's embrace, while feeling very complicated. He even believed that they had a child.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean it. I didn't know at first that you were David Bradley which is why I said Dave was my son." Anna felt very guilty. "I was planning to tell you, I just forgot this morning."
"Did you truly forget? You even asked my nephew to call you mommy." David didn't know if he should be happy since his nephew was found and taken care of, but he had also been deceived.
"Sorry… Since you are his uncle, I'll leave him to you." Without second thoughts, Anna takes out everything that she took in the shop.
This includes Dave's stuff, making David and the soldiers astonished. They were all dumbfounded, thinking she had another ability which was space!
Before they could react, Anna turned and ran away at a fast pace, leaving the shop, not giving them time to stop her. The little cat also jumped out of Dave's arms and immediately followed Anna, making them realize that it was her pet.
"Mommy! No! Don't leave me!" Dave burst out in tears, bringing everyone back to their senses.
"No! Mommy promised to take care of Dave. Mommy promised to protect Dave… Dave will be very obedient... I want my mommy!" He continued to cry out.
With Dave bursting in tears while calling out for his new mommy, David came back to his senses and immediately ran outside but Anna was nowhere to be found.
"No! Mommy! You bad guy! Give me back to my mommy!" Dave started to struggle from David's arms. "Bad guy! Bad guy! I want my mommy!"
"Boss, don't you realize that you were the one who took advantage of her?" A soldier asked, feeling unbelievable at what happened.
"Alright, alright… We will find mommy so don't cry…" David stiffly comforted his nephew, well, he is his son now while his wife ran away. He couldn't be blamed for being suspicious, thinking she just wanted to use his nephew.
Now, he just realized that it didn't make sense at all. With her looks and abilities, Anna didn't need to pretend just to be with him. Maybe his nephew would be safer with her than staying with him.
Besides, just her looks were enough for him to fall head over heels with her. He was too stupid to think she wanted to be with him. It would be him who wanted to be with her instead!
After soothing his crying nephew, David felt having a headache. She said she didn't know where to go. Where would he find her now?! His heart was very uneasy as he thought of not seeing her again. What if she met someone else and fell in love with another man? No! He wouldn't let that happen!
After taking the stuff Anna took out, he instructed the soldiers to leave. He had no choice since he didn't know where to find his runaway wife.
As for Anna, she took the chance to find other supermarkets in the City. She didn't think about David, but she was worried about Dave's safety. "Red, why don't you go back and stay beside Dave? Help me to protect him and since we have a bond, I could just follow you."
"Are you sure it's just Dave you were worried about?" Red rolled his eyes and teasingly added, "Fine, I will take care of the child and your husband."
Before Anna could blow up in a rage, the little cat has already run away. Leaving her speechless. "What do you mean husband! It is his loss to lose a beautiful wife."
Anna huff as she moved in the opposite direction, still trying to avoid other people as she didn't trust anyone else other than David and his soldiers.
Following the map, Anna looked for other warehouses. With her hearing, she made sure to take a detour once there are other living people. Collecting every resource she encountered, especially seeds when she appeared in the vegetable market.
With those seeds, Anna used her mind to plant them in her space. She divided those fields which were enough to have a variety of vegetables and fruits. 'Why do I have a feeling that I am playing a farming game?'
Ana also encountered zombies but with her experience earlier, it was easy for her to fight. She prevented using her ability and relied on her sword. Her movements were graceful despite not knowing how to fight. It was a simple wave without any pattern, like playing with a stick, cutting and slashing their heads, slowly becoming accustomed to seeing those disgusting scenes.
It took two days for Anna to get every warehouse almost cleaned up. She didn't take a rest. Of course, she still left enough for other people. She went to a gasoline station and also took trucks full of gasoline while leaving some small containers which were easy to carry for others.
When it was done, Anna started to track down Red's location. Then she realized one thing. She took plenty of vehicles from the car shops she passed by but she didn't even know how to drive! She couldn't walk for miles, could she? It seems she needed to learn!
So, Anna looked for a used car and filled it up with gasoline. She started to maneuver and learned how to drive. Luckily, the place she was currently in was free of zombies after cleaning them up. But she truly couldn't learn how to drive.
"Hey! Uh... Sis? I can drive for you. Just let us go with you. We promised not to pull you down." A young man suddenly popped out from one of the shops nearby.
He and his best friend had been watching Anna learning to drive. Entirely amazed by her ability to use a sword to fight against those zombies.
Anna stiffened. She was aware of their existence and heard their conversation which had no plan on relying on her. So, she gave no heed and continued what she was doing. Now, they finally came out.
The two young men who seemed around sixteen finally stopped not far from the car, Anna lowered down the window and asked, "How did you know I am a girl?"
"Your glass boots were unique and it didn't look like it belonged to a man." The young man honestly explained. He knew that he must not lie since he wanted her help.
"My name is Daniel Bradley, this is my best friend Dwayne Roberts," Daniel said, but it made Anna turn stiffer.
'Damn! This name was David's younger brother! How did I always end up meeting his family?! First is his nephew, now his younger brother!' Anna exclaimed in disbelief.
She is now speculating whether her appearance has something to do with the protagonists. In the story, David's nephew and younger brother would die in the early stages of the apocalypse. Yet now they were saved by her!
"Alright, drive for me and I will protect and give you food to eat." Anna decided to take him and his best friend.
She didn't hide her space and brought a hummer out of thin air and filled it with gasoline, making the two astonished. Anna didn't worry about exposing her ability, it was told in the book that these two people were trustworthy. If not, she could just freeze them into ice sculptures.
"See nothing and hear nothing." She said with a warning, making the two nod like a pecking chicken. She thought for a second, taking back the hummer, and brought out some clothes, handing them to the two.
"Go take a shower first, I don't like the way you smell."
The two nod again, as they went back to an apartment they have been staying in since the apocalypse. Anna also provided water and necessities.
When they were done, she used her frost ability to create protective clothing hidden beneath their clothes. They were stunned in disbelief.
"Those will protect you from being scratched by the undead. Make sure not to let anyone know about it or else, I will kill both of you." Anna warned while the two still nod their heads in response while looking at her in adoration.
"You can call me Anna, or call me sister is fine. I am older than you two anyway." She added as she looked at the window before her face turned dreadful.
"We have to leave now. A lot of them are coming." With a haze, Anna brought out the hummer again. She was seated in the passenger seat while she pointed to the map where they were heading.
"Yes, I know that place." Daniel pumped his chest, reassuring he knew the way.
"I will let you know some detours to prevent us from meeting too many zombies." Anna also added as they started their journey, pointing where to go while she also brought out some food, fruits, and water for the two since they didn't have the time to eat.
"Sis, what about you? I also know how to drive. I can take over later, so Daniel could eat too." Dwayne asked, feeling shy to eat alone while Daniel was driving and Anna not eating.
Especially in today's environment, it was pretty hard to find fresh fruit, but she gave them plenty. It was as if they were not suffering from the Apocalypse. The fruit looked fresh from the tree, it smelled sweet and tasty.
"Just eat it to your heart's content. I won't let you two starve." Anna reassured, "You two looked around 16, how come you know how to drive well?"
"We have been taught since we were 13. It is for our safety in case of an emergency, our parents also promised that we will get a car once we are 18." Daniel honestly answered. "What about you sis?"
"I was too afraid to drive." Anna helplessly answered. This was the truth back in her world.
There were plenty of people who wanted to teach her how to drive, but she was too afraid. Hence, Anna didn't learn anything aside from riding a motorcycle.
Unfortunately, this world's situation isn't good to use a motorcycle. Otherwise, she would have brought out that motorcycle she had picked from the other shops.
"I can drive a motorcycle, but it was hard for me to learn how to drive a car. It would always get scratched and bump into something." Anna added helplessly.
"I can teach you if you want." Daniel happily offered.
"No, I don't want to. You could just drive for me. Unless you want me to leave you once I learn to drive." Anna said jokingly.
"Right, it is truly hard to drive. So, you don't need to learn sister. We can drive for you as long as you want." Daniel said in a serious tone, making Anna laugh, knowing they were afraid of her leaving them.
"Sis, why are you wearing a mask? All I could see was your lips and chin?" Daniel bravely asked while driving. He noticed that Anna was also wearing thin clothing beneath their clothes.
Just like them, those thin clothing were soft and stretchable, and could reach their cheeks where they covered their faces, but leaving their eyes exposed.
Anna also made them military boots which she also altered her footwear. At first, they thought it was hard and would feel painful to walk since it was made of glass, but it was surprisingly very soft and cool.
Now, donning the same black hooded sweatshirt and pants, they look like they are wearing a uniform. She also created two beautiful swords for them to use. With this kind of outfit, they looked like an assassin, very cool!
"Just to hide my face. I'll let you see my face when we find a place to stay at night if you want." Anna helplessly said.
It won't be safe if they see what she looks like while driving. Anna has seen her face, they might get into an accident.
"Why do we need to wait until we have a place to stay? Sis! Don't tell me you are a wanted criminal?!" Daniel's imagination runs wild, making Anna speechless.
If possible she wanted to slap Daniel's head. Anna chuckled and advised him to stop somewhere safe, making Daniel and Dwayne feel confused and nervous.
"Alright, just promise me don't be shocked, okay?" Anna helplessly said while hearing their fast heartbeat.
"Sis, are you ugly? Don't worry, no matter how you look, we will accept it." Daniel added again, before receiving a slap on his head, making him look in grievance at Dwayne who just retracted his hand.
"Can you stop your wild imagination?" He helplessly said. Dwayne was already used to Daniel's behavior, but he was worried that it may provoke Anna.
"Yeah, I am very ugly and look like a scary monster. I am afraid you two might get frightened." Anna laughed, but she took off her hood, revealing her snow-white hair.
"I want that kind of hair too!" Daniel exclaimed in amazement.
They were astonished again, their eyes almost popping out, their mouth opened wide right after Anna took off her mask, letting them see her exceptional beauty.
Daniel even held his chest in exaggeration before pointing a shaking finger at Anna who turned her eyes back from blue to purple color.
Even Dwayne reacted the same, they were very in sync. Truly best friends.
"I looked like a monster. Don't you two think so?" Anna teasingly said while she smiled sweetly, winking at them very seductively, turning the two to feel thunderstruck.
They both suddenly held their nose and tilted their head, preventing blood from dropping from their nostrils. They are in sync and their reactions made Anna burst into laughter.
She felt those two boys were very cute as they tried to calm themselves and strive hard not to look at her.
Daniel suddenly requested, "Sis, can you please wear your mark now? Fortunately, you asked us to stop driving. Otherwise, we might have got into an accident."
"Am I that ugly and looking like a very frightening monster?" Anna pretended to sigh and felt sad.
"Who said that and I will give them a beating?!" Daniel and Dwayne said at the same time while they turned to look at Anna again, who remained smiling mischievously.
Gasp! Daniel and Dwayne were hit in their hearts again and did the same thing as the first time they saw Anna's face.
"Sis, you can't do this to us. If we get used to your pretty face, we might not even get a wife that is pleasing to our eyes." Daniel wailed with injustice.
Slap! Dwayne gave Daniel another slap as he said in disdain, "Stupid, it is already an Apocalypse and you think you could still find a wife?"
"Who knows. Sis, do you have a younger sister? What about introducing me? I am very very good and very obedient." Daniel suddenly said.
The smile in Anna's eyes unexpectedly vanished as her bright eyes instantly dimmed, as she lifelessly said, "I am all alone."
Anna put back her mask and hood before leaning her back in the passenger seat. She looked out of the window, "Let's go."
Her reaction made the two boys stiffen as they glanced at each other. They didn't fail to see the sadness and loss in Anna's eyes
Dwayne threw a blaming look at Daniel before indicating to start driving, sitting silently in the back seat.
Daniel was also embarrassed, he opened his mouth to say sorry, yet his words remained in his throat. He could just silently start driving again, but he was no longer noisy as before.
Anna would sometimes flick her fingers, sending a shot of sharp ice straight to the zombie's head and preventing them from coming closer.
When the night fell, Dwayne took over the driver seat as they continued their trip where she could feel Red's location.
Anna was hesitant to either follow David and his soldiers or let Daniel and Dwayne transfer on their cars. She felt distressed that David might think that she was using his brother as her leverage against him. But who would drive for her?
Using a motorcycle was noisier than using a car. It may gather the zombie's attention which is not good. As for Red? People with bad minds might take their interest in her pet. That is also not good.
They encountered other people on the highway, some were also asking for help, both Daniel and Dwayne only looked at Anna, waiting for her instructions.
"Do not stop. There is an ambush. You don't need to think about it next time. We don't know if they truly need help or just want to ambush us."
She used her sharp hearing and confirmed there were other people nearby, hiding as if they were ready to pounce once they stopped.
The two boys instantly feel frightened. It was very fortunate for them to meet Anna, otherwise, they might have died. If she heard their thoughts, Anna would surely tell them that is how they died.
"Sis, you could take a rest too. Don't worry, I will be careful when driving." Dwayne said after noticing that Anna kept on using her ability to secretly kill those zombies.
He had already guessed that she might not want other people to see her ability. They have also seen other people with abilities but compared to Anna, they were weak.
