章 20: Tensions
The other bikers in military gear from the north started to sweat profusely at that show of force with many who had previously pulled out their weapons for a fight very hastily putting them away.
One of the bikers hastily runs towards Gara after the battle.
"I'm so glad to see you, the military is everywhere trying to find you" he calls out as he pulled off his helmet to expose the zany white hair of Arc.
"took you guys long enough. You had me worried that the army had captured your skinny ass and we would have to come bail you out." Gara harassed with a smile.
By this time Tral and Darick had left the café. "we should move out before the military catches on. I would hate to run into that general again so soon."
Mr.Inherst as well as Vishka come over "you actually faced the general and lived to get away. That is quite the accomplishment, the moment I saw him in the opposing army I called for an immediate retreat and it is a good thing I did so because that metal fort didn't last five minutes once they opened fire quite literally as Major Tomson seems to be testing out a level of power I've never heard him able to wield" described Mr.Inherst sadly.
Tral gestured one hand in the air as the other went to his temple and formed several quinjets. "we should keep moving till we reach a safer location, does your group have a way to hid us from scrying eyes as we travel?" which Mr.Inherst confirms explaining that there is an illusionists as well as an cloaking device that can hide everyone's presence as long as they remained within a certain distance.
The party whole again, although many lives were lost they were at least looking forwards together into an unknown future as they left their previous vehicles behind and entering the new quinjets.
They had left with over a hundred people from the base but as they return in seven quinjets, there are only eighteen left alive with most of them bearing injuries from their escape.
When they got closer to the base for the first time many got to see the outside which consisted of the mountain ranges on the north west of the continent which stretched off into the sunrise.
They followed Mr.Inherst's directions toward a valley leading into the heart of the mountains but when they got near they saw a small army stationed around the base with prisoners being shipped out on mass.
"How could they have found out the location of our base when not even most of the people living there knew where it is?" questioned Vishka full of rage "it must have been you new comers that betrayed us how else could you escape from the Generals army" she went on to accuse the group of four.
Tral promptly replied "I dropped a mountain on them killing more people then you probably have in your entire life and we still don't know the exact location of your base or we could have meet there instead of waiting hours for your slow ass." He followed this up by holding out his hands as if daring her to start a fight.
Mr.Inherst got between the two of them "calm down already. I know for a fact that this guy as well as his sister have nothing to do with any leaked information." He stared hard at Vishka afterwords he turned to Darick "What I can't be sure of is you and your girlfriend Lisa's background"
"Wait a minute, I thought Lisa was recruited by you guys before we met and was trying to get in Darick's pants in order to rope us into your little rebellion?"Gara interepted which Darick clarified "I met Lisa at the gym before I met Sofie performing her little girl who needs saving from a run away truck act, which I assume would be how she finds recruits"
Gara facepalms hard after hearing this as Mr.Inherst talked on "well it is a good thing that I sent Sofie as well as many of the refugees to other locations before the mission leaving only a fraction of our forces on site but I really need to have a word with that girl about screening new recruits" he then goes over to the intercom that connects the several quinjets to broadcast a message "A spy has been discovered in the hideout. All personal should be wary of a possible mind reader that goes by the name Lisa previously seen with an large indestructible person called Darick who is currently with us and under investigation."
"Hey! Darick is our friend who has been through some serious fights with us against the church for years now" Tral spoke up for his friend angrily.
"Yet your friend has lead an unknown powered user into a previously secure location which comprised the safety of hundreds if not thousand of people." Mr.Inherst stated avidly before continuing "Unlike you, your sister and Sparky friend who all came from the same orphanage, Darick was only met in project Blood Sparrow which is known for messing with the minds of the kids involved as well as the fact that he himself was never in any danger the whole time"
Tral stared at Mr.Inherst for a decent period of silence before coming to a decision which he stated simply "If you don't want to help us against the church, and I mean all four of us than get out of my ride."
Arc gasped with surprise as Darick tried to protest saying that it was his fault for bringing her but he was signaled to silence by Gara "I actually agree with my brother for once. We have been running for years without too much problems but anytime we join a resistance group especially this time, everything goes to shit in a matter of days." She hands Mr.Inherst the medical cooler adding on "I hope this cooler was worth the lives of everyone who died for it but I for one would trade it for Dusty any day."
As Mr.Inherst received the cooler all previous emotion was drained from his face as he sat down looking at it in silence. Vishka was furious letting out a torrent of curses in the most creative ways she could think.
"Isn't this all a little much guys, were we not all friends a few minutes ago?" Darick said trying to calm the quickly escalating situation but Arc answered it unexpectedly with "We can at least split ways here leaving them with the ships while we find our own way as usual. This way they don't know our movements until we expose ourselves so both of us will get what we want without needing to worry about trust or difference in goals."
Everyone in the quinjet looks at Arc with surprise but it was a logical move so no-one could disagree except Darick who thought everyone was acting ridiculous.
They landed a decent distance in the mountains far away from the now not so secret base.
As they were about to disembark Mr.Inherst spoke up after being silent for a long time. "These samples are the request of the main headquarters of the resistance to be used in making chimeras with the DNA of powered humans and animals. They are to be the ultimate fighting force designed to beat back the church and reclaim land where people can be free to live their own lives out in the open."
To this Tral simply shakes his head "As long as a great power exists enforcing it's will over the people than they are not truly free" and with that the group of four set off together once again.
As the quinjets launch off the magitech makes a wall of illusions around them make them disappear from sight.
