章 3: Chapter 3:
There were a few people passing by who were giving them curious looks and Yi Mian watched Li Yang come to a decision. He stepped forward and she led him up to her dorm. If he came in now and left on time she wouldn't get caught letting a boy into the dorms. By now she knew that the security guard was asleep at this time.
Yi Mian regretted it slightly when she unlocked the door and found that her roommates had left a mess. She took one look at all the clothes scattered on the floor and piled them on the messiest person's bed.
She pulled out her desk chair and moved the nearest chair next to it.
"Please sit down," she said.
He stared at her silently before sitting down. She hadn't seen anyone that did a stony face as well as he did.
"When did you work it out?" he asked.
"It didn't take long," she said. "You have a habit of responding to my thoughts instead of things I say out loud."
She thought back to when he had lent her his gloves. It had been quite a slip up as she hadn't visibly been cold; she had only thought about it. Then he had started making so many mistakes it had been almost impossible to count.
"When did I start really slipping up?" he enquired.
"I really started to notice when we were talking in the cafeteria. You kept saying things I had only thought about like about eating sweet things."
Li Yang grimaced and Yi Mian frowned. She hadn't meant to make him feel bad about it.
"Li Yang, I only noticed because I'm observant and I study the occult. An average person wouldn't notice anything strange about you," she reassured him. "Can you hear everyone's thoughts?"
"I can, but when I'm with you I can only hear yours."
That was exactly what she had been expecting.
"I can normally hear thoughts, but when I'm with you I can't hear anything. I can't tell you what you're thinking right now."
She stared into his dark brown eyes and tried her hardest to read his mind for the nth time, but all she could hear was silence. It was a relief actually because it was hard reading people's thoughts and it got too noisy at times.
"You-."
It didn't take a genius to know he was shocked. His face had paled and his brown eyes were wide. A few seconds later he regained the ability to speak.
"-You can read minds as well?"
She nodded. "I can."
Maybe she was the first other telepath he had met. His parents must not have the same ability like hers did.
"How do you not go mad?"
That question felt odd and she had a feeling she knew the reason why.
"I have to focus to read someone's thoughts," she stopped ask a very important question. "Do you just hear them?"
"Yes and I don't like it."
Yi Mian could understand that feeling. It had been like that in her childhood when her ability had gone a little wild. No one must have taught him how to control it. It was sad to imagine a younger version of him being overwhelmed.
"I can teach you some tricks if you like. It's a little annoying that I can't read your thoughts because I can't tell how well you are taking this."
"It's likely to be considered unfair that I can read your thoughts then," he answered slowly.
If he thought it was unfair that only he could read her thoughts then he couldn't hate her. She smiled.
"I don't really mind you reading my thoughts. I don't have anything to hide," she paused. "Maybe don't read my mind when I'm reading smut."
His face looked like he'd eaten the hottest chili pepper in the world. He was too pure.
"…I'll just stay away from you when you read things like that."
That meant he wanted to be with her when she wasn't doing that. Did that mean she had a chance at being his girlfriend?
"…You like me?" he asked suddenly.
She had completely forgotten to consider that if he could read her mind, he would have noticed she wanted to be his girlfriend. Well, at least it was in the open now.
"I do."
Yi Mian felt brave enough to add in a wink. Li Yang looked even more out of his depth. Did he not like her? Had she got it wrong?
"I don't mind you," he admitted.
She pouted at him. "Is that all?"
"I do quite like you," he confessed. "More than anyone else."
He liked her the best. She grinned widely and thought about kissing him. His lips were nice and plump.
"…Isn't that moving too fast?" he asked with a bright red face. "I've only just confessed."
"You like me," she said confidently.
He sighed and she would have paid a lot to know what he was thinking. She didn't have time to decide how much money as he had already leaned over to press his lips to hers.
The kiss was obviously his first and he was doing his best. He became enthusiastic after the first ten seconds and it ended with her lightly pushing on his chest. By this point her hands were tangled in his hair and his were around her shoulders.
"I need to breathe," she reminded him.
Li Yang moved back and tidied up his hair. Yi Mian thought he looked rather sexy and smirked when he blushed even harder. He had definitely heard that thought. She would have to restrain herself for a while.
"Are we definitely a couple now?" she asked hopefully.
"That sounds so cliché," he groaned.
"There's nothing cliché about being able to read minds," Yi Mian reminded him cheerfully and pulled him back for another kiss.
She was satisfied that they would be together forever. She made his world peaceful and he did the same for hers.
