章 165: Job Offer

While Ace was challenging Koga, May, Chloe and the rest of the girls were all gathering yet again as they prepared for Dawn's contest.

Night was falling by now, and the arena at the front of the ship had been converted into a luxurious stage that would house the contest, using the sea, stars and even the rising moon as the backdrop.

"I hope we can find a good place to sit..." Chloe said anxiously as she and May searched for that very thing.

"We also have to make sure there's enough room for everyone..." May added as she looked around, but all of the tables that had been set out for spectators already had at least one person sitting at them.

"Hey May! Chloe!" A voice suddenly called out to them, making both girls look upwards to see Sonia waving at them from the balcony overhead. "Come on up!"

Neither of them needed to be told twice, as both girls hurried upstairs to join Sonia only to find that she was already sitting with professors Ivy, Magnolia and Juniper.

"Hey girls! Glad to see you again!" Professor Juniper greeted them energetically.

"Hello professor, how have you been doing?" May asked as she and Chloe sat down, eyeing professor Ivy as she did so due to what Ace said about her the day before.

She was still having a hard time imagining her doing the things Ace said he had done with her, but May believed his words absolutely.

"Well apparently I'm not doing as well as Sonia and Ivy here!" Professor Juniper stated with humor in her voice, making Sonia go completely red with horrified shame.

"We were just grilling little Sonia here about her night last night, since something seemed so different about her, and then she finally spilled the beans about finally becoming a woman. We were just trying to get the details from her when Ivy spoke up as well. Now I'm almost feeling left out..." "We dont have any contest halls here in Kanto or Johto, but I heard one was being built in Celadon city thanks to Gym Leader Erika. Plus we have been able to watch them on TV when Hoenn and Sinnoh have them." She explained.

"Maybe I'll see about competing in one if I ever visit those regions again." Selene said while appearing deep in thought.

"Count me out. I would NEVER be caught dead dressing up like THAT." Gloria said while shuddering at the thought of the stuffy dresses and suffocating amount of makeup they had to wear.

"Aren't you a member of the Battle Chateau?" Asked another new voice, as Serena arrived along with Lyra.

"So?"

"SO, once you move up the ranks you'll be expected to attend certain events and maintain appearances matching your rank. ESPECIALLY once you reach the Grand Duchess rank. And if you just wear the same dress every time you make an appearance, that'll also count against you since it'll seem as if you have no regard for your appearance."

Upon hearing that news Gloria looked as if her entire world was crashing down around her, and she hung her head between her knees in defeat.

"What's the Battle Chateau?" Chloe asked curiously, having never heard of them before.

"They're an organization based in Kalos that have expanded to Galar, and there are even talks of them opening a branch in Paldea!" Serena declared with pride as she sat down, before continuing.

"You can think of them as being similar to the League, except the Battle Chateau puts more emphasis on rank along with titles and appearances. They believe that trainers, who are major pillars of each region, have the duty to present themselves properly with elegance and grace. Those who publicly display the opposite are either returned to the bottom of their ranks, or expelled completely.

"And for their ranks you have Viscount/Viscountess, Earl/Countess, Marquis/Marchioness, Duke/Duchess, and Grand Duke/Grand Duchess as the highest position you can earn. But above even the Grand Duke/Grand Duchess is the King/Queen, the position that only a single person in the entire Battle Chateau can hold at a time, and the only way for someone to become the next King or Queen is by receiving the title from the previous King or Queen."

As Serena trailed off she had the attention of all the girls present, as who amongst the young ladies of the world hadn't imagined being royalty at some point? And seeing she had their attention, Serena adopted a smug look as she stated as an afterword,

"And for the record, I'm already at the Countess rank!"

I NEEDED someone to go in and do the research for me in each of these regions.
