章 3: Smile
It was a typical summer day, warm but had a slight cool breeze. People around me chatted and laughed. I sat below waves of trees reading my book.
I tried my hardest to focus on the dull novel, however, my focus always drew to a boy sitting across of me. Everything about him was flawless. He had radiant eyes and a glowing smile. He was chatting to his friends and laughter flowed around them.
I didn't realize that I was staring directly at him but someone had caught me. "What are you look so intensely at?" Leanna asked. "Huh?" I responded without realizing what she had asked. Leanna followed my eyes and lead to the seraphic boy. "Oh my, Ane you caught a delicious fish." Leanna laughed.
Face red and blushing I lightly slap her on the knee, "ouch!" She acted surprised "you know you shouldn't be looking at boys, the exam is in less than thirty minutes, it's our only chance getting out of hell."
I looked at her anxiously, "Do you really think that I'll get in?" I started biting my lips "I mean, I'm not as smart as you and didn't work as hard to prepare, I won't be surprised if I don't make it."
"Silly billy, of course, you'll get in. You're so much smarter in many subjects than me if you fail that means I have zero chance. Stop being so negative, we will get in" Leanna's bright smile always gave me warmth, I felt safe because she was always here to protect me.
"May all students please line up at the entrance to take the exam for Rosemary High school." Someone announced on the speaker.
Leanna and I both looked at each other with worries but we smiled and nodded at each other. "This is our chance, we will ace this." She was filled with enthusiasm, still, I felt butterflies in my stomach.
As soon as the exam finished, I was shaking with fear. After six hours of constant writing and short toilet breaks. My head was dizzy. I was so weak that I nearly fainted, but someone hugged me from behind. It was no surprise, Leanna.
"Oh, that was fun, after so many months of preparing I can finally chill out." She exclaimed.
"Chill out? We don't know if we made it into Rosemary high school," At this point, I was a bit annoyed.
"Well whatever, I'm going to chill out in the CBD, you wanna join?" Leanna was already on her phone.
I clung onto my bag and looked around, I was searching for something, more specifically I was searching for someone. I was looking for him. However, there was no sight of the boy I laid eyes on early. I must be crazy to think that I'll find someone in this crowd of three thousand people.
"Um, I guess so, but I'll phone my mother." before I could reach for my phone, Leanna was already in a call with my mother.
"Oh, thank you very much, Mrs. Li. Yes, don't you worry we both did pretty well. Yes, yes, okay I'll talk to you later. Goodbye." Leanna's eyes were now glowing with sparkles, "Your mother allows you, but you gotta get home between nine to ten." with this surprise I ran over and hugged Leanna tightly. "Thank you so much, Lily."
