It should have been a routine job: He received his mission via the runic circle designed for sending and receiving messages from the bishop himself, took up his gear and set off toward the nearby town to resupply and prepare for the hunt. He did notice the Blood Moon but that shouldn't be a problem. The only thing it did was enhance the murderous intent in wild animals and other creatures anyways and he had enough experience to deal with that.
So he made his way into the forest, on the lookout for his foe while simultaneously tracking the thick scent of blood in the air straight to vampire. He just didn't expect someone to be living here, let alone a whole goddamn family!
And yet, here he was. Looking at what seems to be just that. A dead man, lying in a pool of his own blood with his target hunched over him and a woman huddling an unconscious child in a corner of the room, fearfully gazing at her now dead husband and his killer.
He looked at the vampire again, ready to rush at him in a moment's notice. It seemed to sense that and gazed at him warily before a bloodthirsty grin made its way onto its face and pounced at the priest.
The priest scowled and rushed forward as well to meet this rabid creature, determined to kill it.
He threw his knife toward the head of the vampire to which it swiftly responded by knocking it out of the air before it hissed from pain caused by his now burnt hand.
'Seems the holy water is quite effective on him. Truly a lower type vampire.' he thought, before taking another knife coated with holy water from the belt on his back. 'Ten remaining, got to finish it by then...'
He put aside the stake for now and focused solely on incapacitating it before he could finish it off.
He continued throwing his knives for a while until one finally hit the vampire in the head and it fell down, thrashing around to try and get the abominable knife out that caused it such pain.
The priest quickly took the stake, rushed to the vampire's side and plunging it at its heart hopefully killing it for good.
The vampire looked at him with eyes full of hate unwillingness to die and lifted up his long-nailed hand to strike the priest but could only watch in horror as it turned to dust in front of his eyes before it spread to the rest of his body.
The priest watched on until there was nothing remaining except a pile of ash, did a quick prayer for it to hopefully rest in piece and stood up to survey the rest of the room before walking to the now dead man.
This will be my first book. It is purely for my own amusement and to practice English so please notify me for any mistakes or grammatical errors. Suggestions are always welcome. Please enjoy and stay with me on this hopefully long journey.
