章 24: Chapter 24 : The Leaf be Lit

So yeah I changed the name and cover. Idk. Why not? Hehe. So a little more info on my original story I'm doing, It's basically a mix between Percy Jackson and Avatar the Last Airbender, I think. I'm trying to figure out how to balance this story and that one. In the meantime, I'm just doing this one. Speaking of Avatar, Let me know if I should take a crack at it. It's my number one favorite show besides Naruto. I hit another inspiration so it doesn't matter if I'm still sick. Esketit.

Kenji felt the solace of having no eyes. He enjoyed it. It almost made him want to go away peacefully, never knowing what's coming, always receiving help, but it wouldn't last. He knew that. Deep down, he didn't want it to, he still had a job to finish. Aya and Rei both tried to give Kenji space and time to grieve, but even he didn't want that. Neither did Kakashi and Sasuke.

About three days went by. Kakashi and Sasuke dropped by Aya's newfound house. They didn't have many belongings, since there wasn't really time, but they made do. They approached the door and knocked. Aya welcomed them into her dwelling. Kenji still didn't speak to Aya much, but she had faith he would come around.

Kakashi leaned against the counter and started his barrage. "Aya, Tsunade asked me to come. She said Kenji's eyes are done."

A young boy's ears wrinkled across the house. Part of him was excited, the other half scared. Aya told him about the complication with his eyeballs, finally. Since she had to do it, the identity of Kenji's mother came out with it, but Aya told him she didn't know her. That was the truth at least. Aya hoped for him to assure her that she would always be his mother, like always, but he only nodded and carried on. She still had hope though. The leaf was a good place, and she knew it would change her son in many ways.

"How...does she want to proceed?" Aya became defensive, like any mother should.

"She asked if Kenji could go ahead and try them out, in case there's a problem."

Aya contemplated, but Kenji rounded the corner using the wall as a guide.

"Let's do it." He said.

Kakashi angled his eye to Aya. She was still looking down on herself. Kakashi heaved, pulled out his book, and stuffed a hand into his pocket. "Well, lets go everyone."

Sasuke, Aya, and Kenji followed the masked ninja to the hospital.

-----------------------

In the Mizukage's office...

"Sir! We've located the Commander. From the looks of it, the kid skinned him alive. The Commander taught him that skill personally." A few Anbu knelt in front of the broad desk.

Yagura, resting without a care in his seat, said "Well that's fine. He wasn't needed in the long run." The dastardly smile confused the squad.

"Sir?"

"Nothing. Leave me. I'll inform you when the time comes."

------------------------

The next day, Kenji sat in the hospital room still straightening his ligaments after the uncomfortable overnight rest. Tsunade stood by with everyone except Rei. Her excuse was a discussion with her father.

"Ok, you're eyes should be adjusted. Take off the bandage." Tsunade was at her wits end.

Kenji removed it and slowly regained his vision. Aya was the first one to notice, but the boy's eye color had changed. The onyx black was now a charcoal grey. Like a ghost or something unnatural to this world. Aya prompted Kenji's attention to a mirror. The person staring back at him was brand new. It was a new chapter. A new day. Kenji was satisfied.

Tsunade was livid, but zero sleep will do that to anyone. "OK NOW." She received a few glances and cooled herself. "Sorry, Try and send chakra into them, slowly."

Gasps all around filled the room. Kenji fluctuated his power. For a split second, a regular sharingan appeared, but it didn't last. The red glow fought to stay, but the battle was lost. A solid white glow filled the red cracks. Several veins popped and cracked. Surfacing all the way up his cheeks to his bottom eyelashes. He looked more ghostly than scary.

Kenji received the largest shock. He could see everything. The entire village, all the way around him. The slightest sound of a pencil moving in the lobby. The shift of Kakashi's hand in his pocket. The small breathing contractions of everyone present. He could see it all.

"How is it?" Aya asked, putting a hand on his shoulder. Kenji allowed it.

"It's...amazing."

Tsunade placed her hands on her hips and leaned over. "Finally." She whispered.

Sasuke looked her way. "What did you do?"

"Tsunade poked her large chest out. Smugly basking in her achievement. "Well, I knew that sharingan users all have an extra attachment to their eyes. Possibly to deal with the strain and chakra drain, so the eye doesn't burst or anything. Kenji had two of those. I assumed the other was for the byakugan, so I had to wire them together. If I left them be, the damage would be significant since they were fused together, just two separate lines. Now, he can channel into one on each eye. It's a lot safer and simpler. It was simple, but the process was tedious. If I messed up, he would be blind...Well that's the condensed version." Tsunade was met only by frozen faces. Except Kenji. He had regained his passion, if only for a moment. He was left with a half open mouth and a hand on his chin.

"Ohhhh. That's interesting." He said.

Smiles appeared. Aya tried to hold in a chuckle. She loved this part of him. Suddenly, Aya remembered. "Oh, Kenji. I'm sorry I almost forgot. I have something for you, but I'm not sure if you'd want-"

"Just tell me." He tried to say as soft as possible. He could clearly see the blame she placed on herself. Aya pulled out his leaf headband.

Kenji genuinely smile for the first time in a while. The metal clinked when he grasped the ninja band. This is all he ever wanted in life. Not all the crap he'd went through. He looked at everyone, almost forgetting how to give gratitude.

"Thank you." He said. The thanks from a white, veiny sharingan was quite unsettling.

Note : This looks kind of short to me, but oh well. What can you do. I hate mondays. Ok a lot of foreshadowing in this chapter. I'm going to hint and hint at whats up in the Mist. lol. A few more chapters, maybe involving some character dev and training (hehe) and we'll get into some action and start answering some questions boi. About the eye explanation, I tried to write some complicated and actual anatomy stuff with a full dive into it, but I decided to keep it short and sweet. Hey give me a little credit. At least I didn't use Hashirama cell plot armor. lol. I'm out. YERRR!
