章 14: The dances start
The X day has finally arrived. In the rebel camp, tension has made the air unbreathable. Their boss comes out of one of the tents and looks straight ahead, walking fast towards a rock about a meter high. The man is six feet tall, not particularly robust, but the graying hair and the deep wrinkles on the skin of the face make his image particularly threatening.
He is stretching his throat "mgmgm gmgmg" some laughter followed by these screams "Go Drew you can do it!"
Drew smiles then starts talking to the small crowd, about a hundred people, that is forming in front of the stone. "Today is the day when we will show ourselves to the world. As you know I was not at all convinced of this plan, especially after seeing from which scarecrow was invented. But I trust Zacharias. For those like me who were, even for a short time, enlisted, he was our commander and did everything to bring us back alive to our families. Now he is a noble but his heart is still the same as twenty years ago."
The murmurs slowly go out and the crowd begins to listen more and more carefully.
"The first part of the plan is the least dangerous. As soon as we finish this talk, we will be moving towards the city of Vanein. The first group, already positioned in the city from last night, will plunder the count's armory. Our task will be to cover the retreat making as much noise as possible. I recommend! I don't want useless deaths. We don't have to win today. We just have to let the whole kingdom of Olmaria know that we are here!"
The tone of the speech begins to rise "The guards are people like us, probably many of us have enlisted relatives, so when I say that I don't want useless deaths, I also mean theirs. We just have to defend ourselves and withdraw! You have understood?"
"We understand, Drew!"
"Many of us have never fought so try to stay in pairs and watch each other's backs."
Drew moistens his lips with his tongue and still stretches his throat "mgmgm gmgmg"
"The second part will be much harder. We will have to follow us from the king's army to the mountains and above all survive to tell it! "
"Now forgotten people of Vanein let us shit under that ass of a Count! Let's go and let us hear to the capital!"
The shouting crowd moves confusedly towards the bush.
Igor looks at Drew and confirms "Don't worry, that young man's plans always work. We'll break his ass to that coward of a count."
Drew doubtful replies "I really hope Igor because I don't want to lose other people for no reason."

The armory is located in one of the towers in the castle walls. Five guards, like every day, patrol the area. Simon and the others are keeping an eye on them from the night before.
George remained open-mouthed all morning after discovering that every person who is walking down the street in front of the armory is a rebel. He would never have thought of such a thing.
Beyond the walls there is a sudden bang and Simon exclaims "Igor's signal! The rebels have arrived. Since the alarm signal starts, we only have a few minutes before the soldiers out of service arrive at the armory to arm themselves."
The guards look doubtfully about what to do. Finally, after a brief discussion, one of these approaches the armory and begins to open the grating with the keys that he carries tied to his belt. After a few moments the general alarm is sounded. Five quick bell shots.
The rebels move instantly immobilizing the guards in place. Like a row of people passing buckets of water to extinguish a fire, the rebels pass the guards immobilized and make them disappear behind some buildings.
Simon approaching commented "Like during training. And thanks to the 'silence' runes I spread around here, no sound was heard."
The group approaches the armory but entering from the railing visible from the road they are in front of another metal door.
Desmond says "As you said Simon, only the quartermasters of the various platoons have the key of the second door."
Selin "I don't see the problem!" and bringing the hands close to the bars in just under a minute the lock gives way to a shapeless mess.
Simon opens the door and gesturing with his head begins to distribute weapons to all the people who are entering.
A whistle. Two whistles. Three whistles.
George agitated "It's John's signal, we have a short time before they arrive. Let's run away!"
In a little less than a few seconds everything is left on the ground and all the people involved disappear into the crowd.
While outside the perimeter of the city of Vanein the rebels commanded by Drew challenge the guards and the regular army with insults and screams, the rebels within the walls began the second part of the plan.
This time the scene is a little more violent.
The guards in front of the stables are seen approaching by a group of armed citizens who appeared from nowhere. The battle is short. The surprise effect and the unpreparedness of the guards played an important role in the operation.
Some guards are stunned. But the difference in training is felt while the battle is prolonged. Two rebels collapse dead and the same for a guard. The overwhelming number of attackers, however, finally prevails and in just under four minutes the calm is restored.

Count Uden Vanein after seeing the hated rebels emerge from the woods to the northeast of the city insisted on directly commanding the army.
"Set the alarm and mobilize all available men. I want the archers on the walls and the infantry positioned in small teams along all the roads from here to the rebels."
Turning around to his advisers he screams "I do not want to see a rebel standing on his legs!"
The men in the room shoot in various directions but soon after a few minutes a message is brought to the attention of the count.
"My Lord! Apparently the rebels are already in the city and have stolen weapons from the armory! We have already instructed the guards to find and kill them."
"How dare they? Dirty animals! I had to kill them all when I had the chance! Get rid of those rats! As long as we are inside the walls, Vanein will never fall for four beggars with sticks!"
Vanein's troops begin to line up on the streets in front of the walls while the guards begin systematically to check every possible rebel hiding place.
Another explosion.
The count waking up from his thoughts "Are they still that disgusting?"
"Yes my Lord! It seems that among them there is someone with some skill that allows you to blow up small stones."
"I'm tired, this clown is too long!" coming out on the terrace of the castle positioned in front of the rebels, the Count resumes "Let the knights come out! Exterminate those animals!"
"Yes my Lord!"
At the same time from the south side of the city a fuss marks the arrival of the cavalry.
"Finally some brain subject! He understood that to crush those insects just trample them with the cavalry and he acted accordingly!"
The cavalry runs straight in front of the small rebel army as the infantry advances slowly widening.
"Great! Even the commander of the infantry understood that to exterminate them all must enlarge the troops. Survivors will be chased and killed! I really want to see this memorable scene with my own eyes!"
The rebels remain motionless while the cavalry overtakes them heading at full speed to the northeast.
The perplexed infantry starts to slow down.
The invading army begins to withdraw while a series of arrows from the forest further slows down the infantry.
The count upset yells "Are they running away? They are running away !!! Ugly idiots! Those are running away with my weapons and my horses! You!" indicating the minister of war "Take him to his cell and tomorrow execute him!"
"I did not do anything!"
"Exactly!"

Drew runs through the fronds of the woods when the squat figure of the dwarf is flanked "I told you that no one in this city can stand up to that devil! Maybe someone in the capital can stop him ... if he hurries ... but if they wait a little longer that young man will become a big headache, I assure you."
The rebel leader replies "The plan worked because the Earl is an idiot! The corruption and indifference at Vanein made the guards stupid."
"True! Would you have thought of such a simple plan? Not me." Smiling at the man "We never talked about it, but can I ask you what are you going to do when this story is over? Have you ever thought about joining us? I assure you that there are a lot of advantages."
The dwarf's laughter echoes through the trees when the infantry finally manages to approach the forest. But it's too late now.
