章 2: Divine countermeasures
Ten years before in the spiritual realm.
Elza, the deity of Fate, has summoned some of the most renowned deities in the world. At the meeting, however, only four are presented.
Elza introduces herself in the humanoid form in respect of the others present. She is a woman with elven features and her eyes covered by a white bandage like the soft white dress resting on her shoulders. Slightly tilting her head in greeting, Elza urges others to sit down.
The hall is the exact copy of a human observatory and the stars shining beyond the ceiling illuminate the central table. The meeting begins. "Dear comrades, as you know, divinities hardly meet except to decide on very important topics."
Immediately a mixture between a man and a dragon sitting on the right interrupts the goddess "What are you talking about Elza? Every ten years you get bored and call all the deities to tell us some of your absurd predictions. This year only the four of us showed up, we did it only out of respect for you."
The other three in chorus "Let her speak. Before she starts this thing starts and sooner ends ".
Elza, as if nothing had happened, resumed the speech: "I'll go straight to the point, I saw scary images in the stars, the signs indicate that the demons will be able to reopen the portal in less than twenty years."
She gets up, then calmly starts to turn around the table resting her hand on the shoulder of those present. "We have a duty to prepare ourselves. Humans, monsters and beastmen have lived years of peace, no one even remembers the existence of these fearsome enemies anymore."
Odi, deity of the Order, the robust man sitting next to Gord the god of nature, moves his shoulder from the hand of the deity of Fate and announces in a solemn tone "Believe it costs me nothing, like the last time, humans enlightened by order and justice will fix the problem."
Gord instead rebuts "I do not want to involve beastmen in all this. They are quiet on the minor continent and I do not want to hear your follies again."
The woman next to Elza, Temora, divinity of chaos, a pale woman with long pointed canines announces "I had already intended to resolve once and for all this story of demons never ended by humans, so even if the information was wrong I will give my power to one of my monsters to exterminate that cursed race."
The last woman, an elderly lady with gray hair and half-closed eyes, moving her head to the side, puffing without saying a single word.
Elza asks "What's the plan then?"
Odi responds "I will give the power of light to a hero and with her strength make the demons escape with the thing between the legs in their cave bringing back the order."
Temora annoyed adds "Of course! So you will take advantage of it to fight my monsters? I do not think I'll let you do it. I will give the power of dark magic to one of my favorite sons, he will reduce to ashes demons and anyone who tries to set foot in our lands."
Elza "I think it would be better to coordinate between us. The enemy is strong, the last time all three of the strongest armies were needed to win."
Gord "The last time they were well established on the main continent and were prepared. This time they know nothing about us and will have to go through the portal a few at a time. A few strong people will suffice to drive them back."
Odi "So I would say it is clear that I will have to take care of them."
Temora "If you are so convinced of your strength, why do not we bet which race will win this war?"
Odi "We have an agreement."
At that point both deities stretch invisible hands towards the stars and with a decisive blow they drag two small lights towards the table. Every light is a soul. With determined and sure movements, Odi and Temora begin to instill power in the two luminous spheres.
Odi proudly exclaims, "My hero will be the daughter of a king, her strength will have no equal on earth. She can hold the sacred sword of her ancestors. With her power she will bring back the order or she will destroy everything in the attempt!"
Temora responds in a tone "Silly! My pupil will be intelligent as only a deity can be and his source of mana will be infinite. With its magic, Chaos will make all its enemies tremble."
Elza dissatisfied insists "We will not cooperate in this thing? I do not have as much power as you, gods blessed by an entire people who adore you."
Gord quietly "Then let them do what they want, me, you and Madame of the mountain we will enjoy the show of this bet."
Elza worried answers "I will not stand still to watch them, I think I will prepare a reserve plan" then stretching his hands to the stars and taking a small dim light "I am not able to give all that power to a soul, but I can give him the power to unite peoples in exchange for all his characteristics. It will have an unprecedented skill but it will have the strength of a newborn, the dexterity of a stone, the intelligence of earthworm and the spirit of a leaf."
All those present open their eyes while laughing, Odi says, "You really want to hurt your children to do something like that. That poor guy will never be able to use his skill! He will die before he can use it! And who will follow a newborn earthworm! What an absurdity!"
At this point the old lady speaks "I am the weakest of this assembly but I believe that collaboration is the right path and not this stupid bet. In my little I will work for the backup plan. The child of Fate will live under my protection and one of my strongest children will grow with him to protect him. I cannot give power to a soul but I will reap all the favors I can to help Elza."
Odi "What a waste of time but go ahead!"
Temora "I do not care"
Looking at each other the two get up from the chairs at the same time and disappearing in clouds of smoke they leave the meeting.
Gord "I will be neutral but I guarantee you that if the demons arrive to the minor continent where the beastmen live, they will bitterly regret not having died before." In a flash of light even the dragon man leaves the table.
Madame of the mountain whispered to Elza "I do not have a name like you greater deities but I have seen the war against the demons and I will do all I can to help your young man. One of my children destined for the 'Warrior' way will help him ... always that he will evaluate it worthy!" After this last declaration, with a tremor of the earth, the old lady also disappears from the room.
Elza looks at the light in her hands and says "Little one don't worry, I'll look after you too until you're strong enough to do it yourself. I hope you will not hate me for what I did to you. Your skill will give you the chance to gain power from the people who will follow you and share this power with them."

Ten years before the exam, at the foot of the mountain with no name.
Richard walks back and forth out of the hut when a baby's crying awakens him from his state of torpor and agitation.
Going into the door "It's a baby Doris! It's a boy! ... a little weak but there is everything there must be" With an exaggerated smile "I'll call him Simon!"
Meanwhile the baby in the arms of the mother is calm. The luminous lady in front had told him in the hall of the stars that everything would be all right.
"My parents seem like good people, as Elza told me, but I'm really small and I can hardly move my arms, my thoughts are fleeting and I'm terrified by anything I see ... it will be hard"
Immediately Elza sitting in a corner of the hut, invisible to everyone whispers "Simon, as long as you can rest in the arms of your mother since we have to start working early. On your strength and dexterity for the moment I can do little but for your intelligence I have already prepared a suitable study plan and your spirit will have a surge thanks to all the challenges over your possibilities that I will introduce you."
Elza's evil laughter resounds in the hut, leaving Simon scared as never before in his very short life.

At the same time, in two distant lands, both the heroine blessed by light, a child with overwhelming beauty and superhuman strength and a little vampire illuminated by an unparalleled intelligence and an infinite magic power are born.
A few days later, in the minor continent, land of the beastmen, some hooded dudes silently proceed towards a circle of stones.
The first in line "It will take longer than expected but creating a completely new portal instead of reopening the old one in the country of humans will allow us to evoke the demons in peace."
A female voice adds "Of course, and if the oracle received from our priestess has been interpreted well, while we work quietly to open the portal here, humans and monsters will fight each other out of their strength."
The man "Get in order and start singing the song, we have a lot of work to do, but once finished we'll be heroes!"
The group in a circle inside the ruins begins to synchronize the voices and in the air an ancient and terrible song rises. Nothing seems to happen to the naked eye, but waves of magical power seem to disappear in the center of the stones without leaving any trace.
