"Good work, my lovelies, congratulations to you all, pat yourself on the back. You have passed the first test."
"What do you mean it's the first test? How many more are there?"
A girl to my right had beat me to ask.
"Sorry, Tina. It's time to go on the bus."
"What about the others?" There were still so many kids that were on the floor."
"Young lady…what did I say about asking questions? Either get in or be left behind like all the other kids. NOW GO!"
"But…They are alive. We can't leave them there, right?"
"If you want to stay with them, I don't mind. For everyone else get on the bus. NOW!"
How could she leave the kids behind? They were still alive, I could see their chest going up and down.
"Come on, Evelyn, live another day." Zac was on my side. "The bus is already filled up. Maybe we can stop it if we manage to survive through all the test."
"But…they are alive, how can we just…"
"Are you two rascals coming or not?"
With a yank, Zac pulled me to the bus. I was out of energy. I was powerless. It was as if all my strength had left me.
I had betrayed them, leaving them behind, a guilt-filled my heart, cutting deep.
I promise I am not going to let you all have died for nothing. If I manage to survive these tests, I will find a way to prevent this from happening again.
I sat with Zac at the front, and as if something heavy dropped on me, I closed my eyes, I drifted off.
