章 29: A very tasty piece of news 1
After leaving the academy they visited a few of S City hot spots before heading back home. The next day Jung jianguo left for the set very early.
Xue Meili didn't have any scene that morning until afternoon but she still had to go over to Star entertainment to meet with her manager Cheng Shi. She arrived at her agency with her assistant Jie lu and took the elevator to her manager's office.
As she walked into the company the eyes of staff at the reception kept following her. Though she was one of the artist signed under star entertainment this was the first time she had paid a visit to the company since she had been back.
She was pretty infamous there was a lot of rumors going round about her that they couldn't understand why the CEO would ever agree to sign her on even though she was best friends with his the CEO's wife and married to his closest friends.
Her reputation was pretty bad as it could get it would take a miracle for her reputation to suddenly change. Everyone in the industry were very skeptical about working with her if Fated hadn't been produced by Star entertainment she most definitely would have never been cast in the series.
It was quite strange that she still returned to the industry after everything that happened. It wasn't like she needed the money, she was from a prestigious family and married to the one of the wealthiest men in the country.
She didn't need to work a day in her life yet she was still trying to get back on top. People were already speculating that she had come back for revenge but it had been years even if by some miracle she was innocent of everything it would be very difficult to prove anything much less clear the public opinion on her.
The events of two years ago had already put a big dent on her reputation. Xue Meili completely ignored everyone's stare and walked into her manager's office. Her manager Cheng Shi's office was located at the twenty first floor of the company
She had met Cheng Shi a year ago in Italy on a rainy day. Cheng Shi had traveled to Italy with the artist she had been managing.
Back then she was still a junior manager in Tianjing entertainment. She and her artist had traveled to Italy with her artist Bao lieng for a photoshoot.
However while there her artist had gotten scouted by another agency and unfortunately she lost her job and was stranded abroad. They had met by chance and after hearing Cheng shi's situation she had offered her a room and paid her flight ticket back.
When she had decided to have her come back to the industry and had been signed by star entertainment other managers in Star entertainment had all refused to take her in but Cheng Shi offered to take her on and that was the beginning of their very strong friendship and working relationship.
Xue Meili walked out of the elevator and walked into Cheng Shi's and her management team office that was situated at the hallway by the right of the elevator.
"Meili your here, have a seat" Cheng Shi said and dismissed the rest of the staff.
"Cheng Shi it's been awhile" Xue Meili said taking a seat infront of her desk.
"Yes I have been running around trying to get us a few projects but it haven't been going well. I have been meeting a few obstacles. okay maybe a lot of obstacles, most directors are not too keen on working with you while a few downright refused to pick my calls.
I don't know how to approach this, we were hoping that with the announcement of star entertainment signing you on and your being casted for the series that you would receive some offers but that wasn't the case" Cheng Shi said
Things weren't going as expected and that just made her sad because Xue Meili was a very talented actress that did deserve to be treated like a pariah over things she never ever did just because of jealousy.
"You don't have to feel so sad Cheng Shi. I actually expected this. When I came back Into the industry, I never expected things to be easy no with the scandal affecting a few more people than myself. It was never going to be easy and am okay with that. I am actually ready to star from the scratch" Xue Meili replied.
She already expected that there would be a lot of obstruction at the beginning. She had already prepared herself to withstand anything. She was never going to give up no matter what.
"Even though I really thought a few people would be willing to give you a chance but everyone has just disappointed me. Let's just totally forget about that.
I may not have been able to get you any acting projects but I was able to pull some strings and book you for a few viriety shows that will help improve you image.
Don't worry none of them would clash with your shooting scheduled their all scheduled a month from now.The pay isn't much though but it is something" Cheng Shi said.
"it alright I understand and about the pay i don't mind" She replied.
"Good I will still look out for any auditions holding anything soon and let you know so you can take part in it" Cheng Shi said.
"Okay, let's do that" Xue Meili replied. "Good I will send over the work schedule.Now on to some good news, you have been invited to take part in a live stream Spicy Noddles talk where you answer various question from the host and other Netizens while eating Noddles. It is hosted by web streamer little Tabby cat. He usually invites various celebrities to answer questions and play some games.
It would be a really good thing if we accept the invitation. It would give you a chance to tell your own side of the story without looking fake. little Tabby cat has over 100 million followers and suscribers on weibo so it would send the message across and improve your image while also provide free publicity for the production.
What do you think, are you ready to do this" Cheng Shi said.
After a few minutes of thought Xue Meili replied "okay let's do that".
"Okay I will send them our reply and schedule a day for the live stream. You still have an afternoon shoot, you should get going' Cheng Shi said.
"Okay, bye bye" Xue Meili said standing and walking out of the room with Jie Lun following her close.
