章 4: I am a Baby Ninja
From that day onward, I practiced crawling all over my crib. Of course I did it only when the maid-san are gone. Since the maid just ignore my existence, it works out well for me.
...
In the maid lounge.
"Prince Elmer is still today too."
"I know. Do you think that maybe the prince is cursed?"
"What nonsense!"
"But it's true that the prince doesn't cry or move at all. It's not normal!"
"Maybe the prince is shocked from the princess' death?"
"That's ridiculous! The prince is a baby. He should not understand what's happening around him."
"Well, it's just a thought. The prince stillness can't be explained otherwise."
"Let's just do our job. We will report to the king if his condition persist."
"Okay, hurry and get the meal for the Doll Prince."
"Doll Prince?"
"Well since the prince doesn't cry or move, he is like a doll. With his white skin and silver hair, he is just like a doll that I once saw in the noble's store.
[Author's note: noble's store is a store that specialized in dealing with luxury goods. Since these goods are often bought by nobles, it is named as such.]
"Quit your nonsense! Let's go."
"Yes."
Unknowingly, a rumor spread among the maids due to the prince's weird behavior. The prince then deemed as a failure by the king when he heard the rumor. Since then, less and less people want to be associated with the prince and his existence continued to fade to obscurity.
...
Today is the day.
Two months had passed since I become a baby. Due to my hard work in training my body, I can now crawl fast and stand by myself for longer and longer period of time. At first I stand by holding onto the crib's banister but after some practice, I can stand on my own now.
Wait, baby start walking when turned how old again?
Forget it, I just move in front of the maids when I turned one year old later. My limb turned stiff from not moving in front of the maids. First, let's do some simple warm up exercise. I stand carefully in my crib and start to move my body up and down to a squatting position. I repeat this a few timed until the stiffness in my body disappear. Finally, I inhaled a big gulp of air and exhaled repeatedly for 10 times.
After that, I cheered myself up because today is the day.
Today, I'm going to break out of my prison or otherwise known as my crib. Nobody is going to stop me. I'm done being bored in the crib but luckily I noticed bookshelves filled with books on the other side of the room.
I carefully timed my escape with the maid routine. The maid-san usually changed my sheets and diaper and feeds me once in the morning and then they left me alone until it is time for lunch where they feed me milk in a bottle before going out again. Lastly, they feed me in the evening and changed my diapers before leaving me to sleep. There is plenty of time for me to crawl to the bookshelves and back again before the maid notice something amiss.
I waited after they finishes their morning routine before making my way to the crib's lock. The lock is a simple hook and eye set up so I just need to release the hook from the eye hole. But it seems I underestimate the lock since it's quite high and I can't reach it. I look around my crib for things to push out the hook and I noticed my empty milk bottle. I held it steadily against the crib exterior wall before managing to release the hook. Now for the other side.
The floor is not far from the crib's bed so it should be doable. I went to one of the crib's pillar and carefully slid my way down. Then I fast crawl to the bookshelves. I took out one book but the words is kind of gibberish. I only knew some of the words in it. I compared the words with the English alphabets and constructed this world's alphabet chart in my mind. By doing so I can read more but their meaning elude me. Fortunately, there is a dictionary so I can just look it up.
From then on, my day changed from moving around in my crib to crawling and walking to the bookshelves, read a book and back to the crib again. Needless to say that these were all done without the knowledge of my maids.
