章 26: Walking and Walking and Walking
Zhi Ruo's speed was quite fast despite wearing high heels. Everything was a blur as she sped past corridors and in the elevator. She did not bother to check out from the lounge and immediately hailed a cab outside the hotel.
Her make-up was a mess and she looked like that witch from Spirited Away. She grabbed a bunch of wipes from her purse and started to wipe away the make-up. It was a long ride as the driver silently drove through traffic.
Having to bump into Mo Chou was something that she had to accept. In this world where connections was everything, it was not right to avoid him because of her dirty past. The way she had acted back there... It was horrible to say the least.
She had promised herself not to be so emotionally sensitive and yet she was stupid enough to let herself loose and cry like it was the end of the world. A baby, that's what she was.
Zhi Ruo bitterly laughed at herself. 'How pathetic was it to be so weak in front of that man? Almost a decade had already past, didn't you learn your lesson? Allowing yourself to be vulnerable will only lead to your doom.'
After getting off at her apartment, Zhi Ruo made it up to her apartment and staggered up the stairs. Wearing heels was no joke, she almost fell. She threw the heels away and lied down on the sofa.
Just when she was about to fall asleep, the lights suddenly opened and she groaned.
"You're already home? So early? Didn't your grandparents say not to leave till midnight? It's only quarter to 11. Just a little bit more and you could've made it."
Xiao Tong had been staying in her apartment since she left and was having a movie marathon in her bedroom when she heard the front door open. At first she thought it might be an intruder however abandoned that thought because to the eyes of outsiders, she was nothing more than a simple office worker with a huge debt. What could they steal of something with value?
Contrary to Xiao Tong's thoughts, it was a huge miracle that the apartment did not notice her leaving with such an exquisite outfit so it could be said that she was half right and half wrong.
"I met him," Zhi Ruo's muffled voice said, not even bothering to move an inch.
"Met who?" Xiao Tong scratched her head. "And will you please remove your gown before you lie down? I know you're rich and all but the dress is priceless."
Zhi Ruo groaned again and slowly sat up, feeling a bit dizzy. "I met Mo Chou." she stood up and signalled for Xiao Tong to remove her dress for her.
Xiao Tong frowned but still followed her request. "I see... And I'm guessing from your ugly face you cried so much because you couldn't help yourself then probably ran out without letting him explain?"
Xiao Tong was really smart. After being friends with Zhi Ruo for more than a decade, she could perfectly capture her thoughts and accurately guess what happened according to Zhi Ruo's personality. It was a skill that she has developed. After all, Zhi Ruo wasn't the talkative type.
Zhi Ruo nodded and sniffed. She could already feel the incoming scolding she'll get from her best friend. Oh how stupid and naivé she was!
Xiao Tong did not bother to scold her and only sighed. "We'll talk about this tomorrow. Change into some comfortable clothes and wash up. We'll sleep together tonight."
Zhi Ruo felt eternally grateful and hugged her best friend tight. Although she was quite cold to others, she had an unbelievable soft spot around the people closest to her.
Xiao Tong rubbed her back comfortingly. "There there... Now go wash up, I'm also getting sleepy."
Zhi Ruo released her and washed up. When she arrived inside the bedroom, Xiao Tong had already fallen asleep on the left side of the bed, her body curled up in a fetus position.
A smile appeared on her lips. Xiao Tong had never failed to make her happy. The sadness in her eyes disappeared.
Now was not the time to dwell on such negative thoughts. Tomorrow would be a new day and a new start. With that, Zhi Ruo climbed in bed next to Xiao Tong and soon fell asleep.

It was around 6 am when Zhi Ruo found herself wide awake. Xiao Tong beside her still slept soundly as she felt surprised. It was unusual for her to wake up at this time.
She had tried to fall back asleep but to no avail. Helpless, she begrudgingly slowly stood up and made her way to the bathroom. After taking a hot shower and brushing her teeth, she dressed herself up in a casual jumper with her favorite hoodie and left the apartment.
She didn't forget to leave a note for Xiao Tong before she left. Because it was so early, Zhi Ruo managed to catch the sun rising and felt refreshed.
It was such a rare opportunity to be able to wake up in such a good mood. And this was especially true despite the events that unfolded last night.
Thinking about how she cried so much, Zhi Ruo reprimanded herself for being so... she couldn't think of an appropriate word but regardless! She did not act like her usual self.
She did not bring her car today but walked to wherever her feet may take her. Soon, she found herself in the city square, empty except for a few owners, contrary to it's bustling and lively atmosphere.
It was unusual. She kept walking and walking and walking till she found herself in front of the most luxurious restaurant in the city. When she checked the watch on her wrist, it was already half past 10, a perfect time to eat lunch. Besides, she didn't eat breakfast and also felt her stomach grumble in protest.
She did not feel worried about her casual appearance at all despite walking inside the restaurant because she was the owner. Also, she knew the manager here, surely if she showed herself to him he would recognize her and let her do as she pleases?
Zhi Ruo walked inside the elegant restaurant with a wide smile and laughed joyfully at the dishes she was about to eat.
