章 2: Lady Miur, the troublemaker

During his journey, he even ran into several low level wolf type monsters but he didn't even feel the need to deal with any of them. Just a glance from his mount, the Black Cross Lightning and the wolf was charred black by a fierce thunder strike. That was one of the specialty this Black Cross Lightning Mount had even back in the game, Black Lightning Wrath.

That special effect could only be used on monsters with levels lower than fifty. Phantom Beast was what all the monsters in HeavensTale were called but Mays decided not to call them that anymore in this new world.

After moving for more than four hours, Mays finally came across several human villagers who were busy washing clothes at the riverside. They all looked at Mays with a stupefied look as if they never saw a horse their entire life.

Without any intention of stopping at the outskirt of the settlement, Mays ignored the stares of all the villager and rushed toward the area which were more populated in the village.

Apparently, there was nothing much in this run down village. Once Mays passed over a bar, he decided to try getting some info from there as well as something to serve as his lunch. He was already hungry after several hours of horse riding. Not to mention that events always popped out in a bar according to most novel and manga. Since he already stumbled upon such circumstances by sheer luck, he might as well played it out.

Mays moored his black horse before he entered the bar. There was already a crowd outside the bar with every single one of them eyeing the black horse. They had never seen a horse their entire life hence they were dumbfounded by its appearance. To them, this black creature was totally eye-catching.

Inside the bar were several old looking table lined up in orderly manner and some of them were currently occupied. The moment Mays walked into the bar, every single pair of eyes inside locked onto him, judging him by their own standards.

Currently, he was wearing the Illusion Cape. That cape could change the looks on the wearer's equipment according to his wills. Mays adjusted it so that everyone would saw him as a plain guy wearing a worn down cape.

Mays who noticed the cold glares directed toward him walked away slowly to the direction where the bartender stood without glancing to either his right or left. He knew that a traveler like him weren't welcomed in these kind of rural village.

"What do you want, lad?"

The bartender who was a bald aged man asked in a low tone. From the look on his face, he was not in the least happy with Mays coming there even as a customer.

Even though Mays felt a little dishearten by the way he was treated, he didn't bother with it. He acted as if everything was okay and sat on an empty chair in front of the counter.

"A glass of beer please, and also that delicious looking pie."

Mays ordered as his finger pointed towards the stack of pie on the inner part of the bar, the open kitchen. The bartender immediately walked toward the kitchen, took one of them and put it on a plate before he brought it to Mays.

Right after he put it in front of Mays, he immediately took a mug and filled it with beer before putting it beside the pie. Mays was about ready to start eating just before his hand was stopped by someone. It was the same bartender who served the food and drinks to him.

"You need to pay first before you eat. That's common knowledge!"

It was obvious that the bartender was just messing around with him. There were no diners that asked for money first especially when they already served the food in front of their customer.

Some of the customer inside the bar grinned as they watched the show before them. Mays maintained his calm demeanor and looked at the bartender directly through his eyes.

"Ah sorry my fault. How much for them by the way?"

The bartender also grinned as he thought of something.

"Not much, just twenty copper coins."

The people who were present inside the bar started chattering all of a sudden. The topic was obviously the price of the meal Mays was just issued with. Mays knew that the bartender was trying to swindle him but he didn't really care.

The best way to learn was through experience. As if being swindled once or twice would affect him.

But despite that, Mays still showed a troubled face and didn't move for quite some time. The bartender twitched as he figured that something was wrong. He thought that Mays didn't have any money with him so he was about ready to chase Mays out.

"Could I pay with this?"

As Mays said that, he took out several silver coins from his Infinite Space Belt.

That very act itself made everyone present utterly shocked beyond words. The price of the meals consisting both the pie and the beer would only be around five copper coins at most.

Even a single silver coins would be more than enough to buy him a hundred of the pie he was going to eat but he casually took out several of them without batting an eye. These people couldn't even try to comprehend what Mays was thinking by doing that on purpose.

None of them knew that May didn't had anything planned nor he was plotting something. It was just that Mays never knew about anything called copper coins. The lowest value of money he had was that silver coin. There never was copper coins back when he played the game.

"That was more than enough, traveler."

Suddenly, a cheerful and loud voice echoed from the corner of the bar. That voice was also quite feminine.

Just when everyone's eye focused toward the person who shouted, that mysterious person immediately walked toward Mays. Since that person was wearing a full cape like Mays, nobody knew how that person looked like.

"That meal won't even cost you more than ten copper. That old man was trying to swindle you in broad daylight yet you reacted in the most unimaginable way. I'm totally astonished."

As the mysterious person added, the bartender already showed an unpleasant face.

It was obvious that the bartender tried his best to keep calm but his blood veins was clearly bulged here and there. At the very least, the old bartender still could stop himself from suddenly rushed toward the mysterious person and started shouting at that person.

"And who might you be?"

At the same time when the bartender asked that question, the mysterious person immediately removed the cape which covered her entire body.

Beneath the cape was actually a girl, a cute looking blonde girl with a great curvy body. From her looks, her age might be around late teens or maybe even early twenties.

She wore a casual yellow stripped leather jacket along with a black rugged pants. Her twin tail styled hair suited her jacket the most. She had two daggers equipped at both side of her waist and her most distinguished traits was the dragon tattoo on her left shoulder.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Llll… lady Miur?"

The old bartender stuttered as he finally saw the face of the person in front of him. It was the only daughter of Lord Leoki, the leader of Blue Bear Brigand. The village they were in right now was just one of the many villages in RiverMug that was under the direct control of the brigand force.

Upon realizing that fact, the bartender sighed heavily as he was just saved from being devoured alive thanks to his calmness. If he really tried to do something to Lady Miur previously, not just his own life, even the safety of the whole village itself wouldn't be guaranteed. Lord Leoki doted on his daughter the most after all.

"But I really don't have any small change. Maybe I'll just treat everyone here I guess."

Mays said that nonchalantly while he tossed the silver coin toward the bartender. Everyone inside the bar cried happily and thanked Mays for his generosity before they started ordering more stuff.

Shocked by Mays sudden announcement, he was a bit jet-lagged before he tried to pick the silver coin that spun in mid-air. The bartender still managed to grab the silver coin though.

Mays immediately started eating his pie and occasionally drank his wine without any care on the crowd which turned merry all of a sudden. Nobody there held any contempt on him any longer. These villagers mindset were simple and a meal was enough to sway them.

"I'm more interested in you now. Can you tell me your name and where you come from?"

Miur who already sat on an empty chair beside Mays asked with a face full of inquiry. She really wanted to know where this young master come out from. Even someone like her wouldn't waste a silver coin for people she didn't know just to impress others. After all, a silver coin was not a small amount of money especially for common villagers.

"I go by the name Mays and where I'm from is of little significant to you, beautiful miss."

Mays grinned as he replied. It was totally that very cliche event where a maiden suddenly popped out in the bar to help the protag which made Mays chuckled at his situation. As if trying to go along with the flow, Mays responded to her accordingly.

"Mays, Mays. Hehe okay. At least you know how talk to a lady. Oh ya, I'm called Miur. Nice to meet you."

"Nice to meet you too."

Mays replied shortly and continued to eat his pie. It was halfway done already.

"So, where are you headed to?"

"That black creature outside is a horse right? I read about it once when i was little."

"Where did you get the horse? I had never seen a living horse before my entire life."

Miur didn't stopped there and continued her barrage of question toward Mays. Annoyed by how persistent this little girl in front of him was, he uttered something that might made this girl gave up probing him some more.

"Scorching Earth Valley. There were lots of them there, you can go and pick one there if you wants."

The moment Mays said that, Miur showed a shocked face beyond imagination. Even Mays giggled a bit after he saw that face of hers. Miur's grip on her wine mug loosen and the dropped mug shattered once it hit the floor.

"Sssss... Scorching Earth Valley you say?!!"

With her face still had that look of disbelief, she shouted her hearts out. The bar turned silent in an instant.

"Where is that place?"

"Have you heard of it?"

Several people whispered to each other. They were all villagers in an isolated village hence none of them ever heard of Scorching Earth Valley.

Miur knew about that place though. Even though she only heard rumours about it, she was sure that it was located in demon continent.

"Scorching Earth Valley is in Demon Continent right?"

"Yeah why? I passed by that place several times already."

Almost everyone inside the bar looked at Mays with different light. Able to boast about something like that was totally not an easy feat especially for someone who looked quite young. None of the people in this village ever go to another kingdom let alone another continent.

Mays who couldn't care less on how the little girl in front of him reacted, continued to pour oil on the fire. He even described how dangerous a place Demon Continent was. His intention was to make this girl afraid of him so he could enjoy his meal peacefully.

What he just did actually had the opposite effect though. Miur already had something in her mind the moment Mays finished talking. She then sat back at her seat and continued watching till Mays finished his meal without saying anything for quite some time.

"So, where were you headed to?"

As if the girl still had the thought to bug him some more, Mays was at loss of word already. His previous plan backfired so now he decided to just silently leave the bar and head out without even trying to get any more information from there. He was not in the mood anymore because of how annoying this girl and her questions were.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

That moment when Mays stepped outside the bar, there were already a huge crowd surrounding the perimeter. Most of them gathered there because of the black horse but several of them were there because of different reason.

This small group of people looks like they were waiting for someone. It was also clear that they were totally on different class compared to all the poor villagers. These people wore decent armors and looks disciplined. And the most distinguished part about this group was that the members were all young people. Even the oldest would be around late twenties.

As Mays stared at that group of people, one of them suddenly walked toward Mays with haste. Mays stared at him for quite some time as he wore the most outstanding armor out of all of them.

It was just a set of low level heavy armor but it was still the best when compared to the others inside the group. This young man who looked to be in his early twenties was an innocent looking, handsome young man with a short trimmed blonde hair.

"We have arrived and waited for you before leaving, young miss."

That young man suddenly talked.

"Good. But before that, I want to test something out. Len, can you duel this person here and test his ability? I want to confirm something."

Mays already knew that the girl who kept pestering him inside the bar was behind him but he never knew what status the girl had. For her to casually give orders on impulse like that and for the order itself to be carried away without any retort was enough prove that she was in no way a minor character in this place.

Mays clicked his tongue as he was still pissed with how this girl does things. She did whatever she wanted without any consent of the party involved. His little bit of good impression of this girl was gone after how often this girl continued to annoy him.

"Sorry please don't blame me. I'm merely obeying orders."

Len swings his sword toward Mays right away after he apologized.

He didn't attack with all his strength. Even Mays knew that. He was just 'testing the water' after all. Mays on the other hand didn't even flinched upon facing such an attack.

Truth be told, that attack posed no threat to him at all. He could even see the trajectory of the blade in front of him as if it was all in slow motion. Using just his two finger, he clipped the sword's blade with ease.

"Whoa!!"

"For real?"

Everyone who witnessed what just happened were all flabbergasted. Never had any of them saw someone stopping a sword slash using only two fingers before this. Miur was also shocked by that but the person who was shocked the most was Len himself.

It was true he did suppressed his power before but that attack still holds at least sixty percent of his full power. For someone to stop that attack of his without breaking a sweat was something he couldn't accept. Len pulled back his sword before he started condensing some sort of internal power inside his body.

"Sorry again for not being serious earlier. This time I will try my best to attack you. Please be careful."

"Ah, okay."

Mays replied casually as he didn't want to bother with any sort of pointless chattering. He didn't even know why he was forced to duel against someone he just met without any reasons. He only knew that everything that happened were all due to the girl who currently stood behind him.

He was still deep in his thought when Len finished charging his inner power just before he unleashed his second attack on Mays.

"Sonic Slash!"

This young warrior actually used Sonic Slash on his second attack attempt. Too bad his Sonic Slash was barely able to pass as a bronze rank. This time, Mays used both his hand to stop the attack. He clamped the sword aimed at him using both his hand with insane accuracy.

Not only did he managed to stop that attack effortlessly, he even managed to disperse all the energy contained within the attack without any casualty on him.

"Ah, that was quite good."

Mays's casual remarks made everyone present screamed in their heart. That was a legit swordsman skill but it was blocked easily by Mays. Even among the crowd, there were less than five people who could actually use class skills.

"I… I admit defeat."

Len knelt and put his sword on the ground as a proof that he really surrendered. Len was the first one to get back to reality as everyone else were still in awe thanks to what just happened in front of their eyes.

The one with the most glittering pair of eyes was obviously Miur herself. It was as if she just found a raw diamond and she obviously wouldn't let it slipped away.

"Nah you're not that bad yourself. That last attack was already a bronze rank even if it barely passed as one."

"For real?"

Once again Len was shocked.

He never knew his attack power already reached bronze rank. He knew that he was already at the peak of white rank but that's basically it. He did trained super hard but he never felt like making a breakthrough to the next rank.

At first Mays thought of telling him the level system but he decided not to because of how the current world differed from the game he knew. If he just suddenly told Len that his level was around twenty five then the only respond he might be getting was just the stupefied look of that handsome young man for sure.

What would those number represent in this world anyways if he himself couldn't even check his own level like how he used to.

He made the right choice to use the rank specification of monster as Len understood him right away. The main reason for why Mays could tell that clearly was because one of the rings he had on his right hand, the Beast Master Ring.

Of course that ring was also a legend tier item. Other than its outstanding base stats, it also had one special effect which was the "Beast Scan". "Beast Scan" allowed its bearer to identify the power of any beast or attack it came into contact with.

When it was still a game, this ring didn't really had any significant use as people could determine their enemy's prowess just by looking at their stat window.

The only reason why Mays had that ring equipped was that it had ten percent's resistance to all magic elements which weighed more than that special effect especially during PvP.

"Yep. This ring of mine changed colour according to the power of the opponents. It changed to bronze earlier so I am sure of it."

Everyone was already back to their sense when Mays explained that to Len. The others who heard that showed envious gaze toward Len as they all knew Len already one step ahead of them.

Len on the other hand couldn't hide his excitement since he already achieved one of his goal which was to break through into bronze rank.
