"Have you already reached the first stage of basic immortality?" Lien asked Da Zihan, sensing that he had. Although entering the first stage was straightforward, she hadn't expected Da Zihan to achieve it so quickly.
"Yes, I have," Da Zihan replied with a smug smile.
"Don't let it go to your head. Just because you achieved this quickly, like the last time you recovered, doesn't mean you're special. It might be thanks to your little spiritual bead," Lien teased, making Da Zihan fume in anger.
"Can you stop mentioning that?" Da Zihan asked, irritated.
Lien shrugged. "Fine, I won't mention your tiny little spiritual bead," she said with a laugh.
"Hmph!" Da Zihan snorted.
With a serious expression, Lien said, "I'll demonstrate martial skills to you and showcase power attributes in action."
"Okay," Da Zihan agreed. "But wait, what's the importance of condensing a string?" he abruptly asked with curiousity.
"As you know, it signifies your level at the basic immortality, that is the first creation level to the ninth. The strings have unseen grains that light up whenever you draw essence into your body. When the first string is fully lit, you'll naturally know and be able to move to the next level, and so on. This increases your abilities," Lien explained.
Da Zihan nodded, understanding Lien's explanation.
Lien continued to explain various concepts as she led him away from the mountain towards a small hut by the river. They stopped at the riverbank. Lien looked at the horizon and stepped onto the river. Instead of sinking, her foot solidified on the surface like solid ground. Da Zihan was amazed. Lien followed with her other foot, balancing on the water. She turned to see Da Zihan's astonished expression and said, "This is just a minor example of what you can do with essence."
Da Zihan gulped. "Can I try?"
"Why are you so impatient? It's like asking a child to walk before they can crawl," Lien chided.
"Xiu!" Lien called out loudly towards the hut. Xiu's reluctance echoed back, but he soon appeared. He stood upright, looking ready for something. There was a brief silence as Da Zihan wondered what was happening.
As Lien and Xiu engaged in their wordless dance of combat, a silent understanding passed between them, and their intentions materialized into action. Xiu took a step back, forming a full fist before propelling himself forward at an incredible speed across the water's surface. Lien, prepared for the challenge, assumed a fighting stance with her sword-like palm extended toward Xiu as he closed in rapidly.
The moment of impact was thunderous. Their collision created such a shockwave that it ruptured the surroundings of the river, sending waves of energy rippling out and splattering onto Da Zihan, who stood in awe, contemplating the immense power required to create such a disturbance in the river.
Despite the impact, Lien and Xiu remained unfazed, knowing that this was just the beginning. They continued their dance of combat, parrying and blocking each other's blows, each momentarily gaining the upper hand in different stances.
Xiu, skilled in wind attributes, realized that conventional attacks weren't yielding results. Gathering essence into his palm, he drew a complex five-element diagram in the air, summoning a swirling wind insignia around him. Seeing this, Lien mirrored his actions, conjuring a water insignia that danced like a needle on the surface of the river.
In a moment of defiance, Xiu shouted, "Lien, I'm not the same as before. I will defeat you this time!"
Lien's smile only widened. "Bring it on. It'll be just like every other time."
Xiu unleashed waves of sharp-edged wind at Lien, who, understanding his intent, solidified the water around her to counter the attack. The clash of attributes created a spectacular display, but Xiu wasted no time and lunged again towards Lien. This time, she met his charge head-on as they both sped across the water's surface.
Da Zihan was still staring intently, observing each subtle exchange between Lien and Xiu. As the battle intensified, Lien halted suddenly, weaving a quick sign with her fingers. A medium sized sea snake emerged from the water with a menacing hiss, directed at Xiu who was still sprinting towards her.
Xiu, anticipating a close attack engagement with Lien, had lowered his guard to conserve his essence for the impending clash. However, he was caught off guard by Lien's sudden stop and display of skill. As Xiu gathered his strength to halt his momentum, his foot slid, nearly causing him to lose his balance and fall into the river. Despite this, Xiu managed to quickly stabilize himself, showcasing his experience and skill.
Just as Xiu regained his footing, Lien's water snake moved with incredible speed towards him, threatening a potentially severe injury. In that critical moment, as the water snake bore down on Xiu, Lien weaved another quick hand sign that made the water snake shattered, releasing a cascade of water that drenched Xiu and the surroundings, bringing a sudden calmness.
"I won again. This is the one hundred and fiftieth time I have beaten you, consecutively," Lien proclaimed, breaking the silence with a laugh.
Xiu snorted and shook off the water from his fur, expressing his frustration. "You tricked me. If you hadn't misled me into thinking you were going to collide with me for a close attack, I wouldn't have fallen like that. I still have moves up my sleeve that I haven't revealed."
With a hint of mockery in her voice, Lien questioned, "Oh, what moves are those?"
"Hmph, you'll see in our next encounter," Xiu replied confidently.
Turning to Da Zihan, Lien shifted the conversation, "Have you observed the intricacies of martial arts? It's a world filled with diverse skills and powerful attributes. You just need to discover what resonates best with you."
"I will share the skills I possess with you, and you can practice them at your own pace. However, when it comes to choosing a power attribute, that decision lies with you. By harnessing enough essence, you can mould and adapt its properties to align with an attribute that complements your abilities," Lien explained to him as she passed her skills to him.
Afterwards, Lien said, "you have recovered now from your deteriorated universe. You should depart and return to your mortal world," Da Zihan nodded. He was truly feeling better now, to the point where he could begin cultivation on his own and practice the skills Lien had imparted to him.
"However, if I wish to draw essence, will there be any available in the place I came from?" Da Zihan inquired.
"Essence is everywhere, though it may be somewhat sparse in your mortal world. You need not concern yourself with that; you can simply utilize the essence from your spiritual bead, and in due time, when you ascend, there will be an abundance of essence available for your use."
"Understood," Da Zihan acknowledged. "I shall take my leave." With a wave to both Lien and Xiu, Da Zihan bid farewell, though Xiu did not acknowledge his gesture.
