I see Michel and Arnold as two sides of the same coin. Michel views himself as a poison from birth only meant to cause harm and will do whatever means to fulfill that role. Meanwhile, Arnold sees him as a mere facsimile of his tyrannical father. Though he struggles against being like his father, he fears it is inevitable and is stuck with blinders regarding international policies.

I always found Michel's logic flawed. Literally everything is poisonous, it is just a matter of dosage. Additionally, there are plenty of poisons that in small dosages only numb and can be used for medical purposes, for example. Caffiene is consider a poison, also.
Michel took a drag on his cigarette, blowing out smoke before going on. "Poison is brought into this world to do harm. If you don't use that poison to kill, it has no reason to exist, does it?"
