Haha, thanks for the feedback. I wasn't sure about that section, myself. Sometimes a comma splice works, and sometimes it just makes a confusing run-on sentence, and it looks like I'm leaning more into the latter territory here. I'll probably poke it a bit before posting the next chapter. thanks!
Damien did not want to be feeling the things he was currently feeling. He was clutching the dagger Cain had given him so hard that the muscles in his hand were starting to cramp. But even that discomfort wasn't enough to draw his mind away from the dizzying, nigh-overwhelming sensation of the steady press of Cain's tongue against his bare skin. He'd known, at least subconsciously, that contact with his mate was meant to be soothing. And as much as he would have liked to forget, his body still remembered the way it responded the first time he caught the vampire's scent. The sensations were overwhelming - first was the gentle hold the vampire had on his hands as he slowly dragged his tongue over Damien's wrist, then up his forearm, pausing at every cut, every scrape, then there was the way his cool breath fluttered over the wet trails he left on Damien's skin, soothing yet raising goosebumps in its intensity, and finally, there was the moment when Cain hovered over a particularly deep cut, one of the bites Crowe had left on the inner crook of Damien's arm, where the veins hovered nearer to the surface. His lips had closed around the mark completely, and he'd sucked.

hahaha I'm glad we seem to agree that a predictable outcome can still be satisfying! confession time, though: I also don't read much vampire romance? 😂 I just like writing it... the 'only one' twist was based on a fanfic I wrote a year or two ago, but drawn out a lot longer (the fanfic finishes at 30k and this story is already over 100k and barely wrapping up part 1 of 3) between the two characters. one thing I really enjoy about Cain is that he still sees himself as human, deep down, no matter how many times he calls himself a monster and soulless, I'm not sure i believe it 😔 and yes he tries to choose the lesser of two evils or take advantage of loopholes when he can to make things less bleak. I can't wait for Damien to fully understand why the other thralls admire Cain so much lol that's great that you write too! if you decide to start posting again let me know, I'd be interested to see what you have 🙂 i like supporting writer buddies 💕 fortunately for me, I'm a bit of a "fly by the seat of my pants " writer, so the planning is just really hilarious notes to self like "Cain tells Damien to be careful, Damien is petty about it. eventually they come to an understanding also oops Crowe is there, danger for damien" (example from the chapter "Morsel", I think 🤔) anyway thanks again for reading and good luck with your own writing 😘 take your time and have fun 🎉
I was wondering how many people were going to see that twist coming... I don't think it's particularly unique for a story like this, but it was really funny for me to watch Cain mope around for the better part of 30 chapters just cackling in my corner going "just you wait..." I honestly am barely keeping on top of my publication schedule for this story (lol idk how other authors do it tbh), and I had little plans written out from about chapter 35 - 50 to keep me on track, but regretfully I am moving into uncharted territory now 😱 haha it's time to sit down with my story for an hour or two and churn out plans for the next 30, I guess. I will say that I personally am a BIG fan of the "losing control and feral" trope, so if not now, then I'm sure it'll happen eventually!! thank you so much for your comments, sometimes writing on webnovel feels a lot like shouting a story into the void, so I'm really grateful for your response !!
BAHAHA that's actually exactly how I imagined it, too 😅 specifically like Shaggy running with Scooby-Doo from a monster .... it's my favorite mental image, even it does sort of ruin the dramatic vibe. Lets's be real though, Cain'POV is mostly just that vibe because he specifically is melodramatic in the extreme, and that bleeds into the narrative (pun not intended)

It's about a vampire's thrall, and his struggle to try and break the spell he's under that keeps him from true freedom. The story starts with the two main characters getting to know each other a little better, and the world-building will expand beyond the dreary house of vampires to encompass a lot more of this high-fantasy world. Obligatory Author-Review Here! This is a story that gives equal weight to both sides of this bond - a werewolf who doesn't want to be with a vampire, and a vampire who doesn't want his destiny to be tied to anyone else. Both of them will need to go through a lot of struggles before they will be able to understand each other, much less trust each other. In other words, this story is such a slow burn, it's basically a few stray sparks that are smoking ominously in a pile of damp moss. In addition to the main romance, this story also includes a small cast of side characters, and has a lot of world building connected to the development of the main pair's romance. So, if you're someone who enjoys the politics and intrigue of a high fantasy world as much as the romance between characters, this might be the story for you!
